A couple of weeks ago, I talked about The Friend Breakup and it sparked a lot of conversation. There are literally over a thousand comments beneath my various social media posts, and I have since received hundreds of DMs from people wanting to share their story.   In sum, the discussion struck a nerve and I concluded that this topic merited further consideration. I thus asked my friend, Nabiha, to join me for a chat on the Anatomy of Friendship.   Share your thoughts on the episode webpage here.   About Joanne Molinaro With over 5 million fans spread across her social media platforms, New York Times best-selling author and James Beard Award winner Joanne Molinaro, a.k.a The Korean Vegan, has appeared on The Food Network, CBS Saturday Morning, ABC's Live with Kelly and Ryan, The Today Show, PBS, and The Rich Roll Podcast. Discipline wants to see you succeed. It is as invested in the goals you set for yourself as you are. And unlike its sexier peers, "inspiration" and "motivation," discipline is loyal, predictable, dependable, consistent. But can it turn toxic? As I've talked about ad nauseam, with the exception of the last 10 years, I literally cannot remember a time in my life when I was not told to lose weight. Starting from when I could remember, I was made to understand that my body was excessively "chubby" and that I would be so much more lovable if I could lose "just 10 pounds."   Tickets to Nisha Vora Book Chat!   Visit the episode page on The Korean Vegan website to share your thoughts on today's topic. While Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky, and Novak Djokovic dominated the Olympic headlines, percolating just beneath the radar were all sorts of smaller stories, ones that may not have been covered by splashy newspapers, but still went viral on TikTok.   One of those stories I discovered while scrolling through Threads…   Visit the episode page on The Korean Vegan website for a written version of this podcast, featuring pictures, this week's "Recipe Inspo" and "What I'm..." On the morning she won the Gold Medal in the Individual All-Around competition, Biles started her day by calling her therapist. Mental health doesn’t need to be taboo, whispered behind closed doors. It doesn’t need to be unordinary. In fact, according to one of the greatest athletes in human history, it may be the secret to becoming an extraordinary you.   Inspired by Simone Biles and the other extraordinary athletes competing in Paris, Joanne reflects on mental toughness with guest Caroline Burckle, 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist (swimming).    Visit the episode page on The Korean Vegan website for a written version of this podcast, featuring pictures, this week's Hi-Protein "Recipe Inspo" and "What I'm..." "I sometimes wonder what would have happened had my father not insisted on teaching me to read and write in Korean. "It was daytime, so there were no stars or moon for me to collect, but I took something of Jeju into my heart that day, some secret that Hallas imparted to me with as much slyness as a young girl fluttering away from home to meet her lover at twilight, a secret I could only begin to feel the shape of, even without knowing its name."   The Korean Vegan Vegan Podcast returns with stories from Joanne's recent family trip to South Korea's Jeju Island.   Visit the episode page on The Korean Vegan website for photos from Jeju, a Comprehensive Guide to Traveling Vegan in Korea, a written version of this podcast, and more.   Connect with Joanne The Korean Vegan Website The Korean Vegan Kollective The Korean Vegan Cookbook My Amazon Storefront YouTube Instagram Facebook TikTok

As you'll hear, Jenny and Pavle's story is marked with unimaginable tragedy--the kind that inevitably changes people, whether they like it or not. The Power of Words.

The Power of Words.

"As my brother learned the hard way when he once used the word 'negligee' instead of 'negligent,' it's probably a good idea to know exactly what a word means before you use it."   In this week’s episode, Joanne takes a deep dive into the meaning and etymology of words that might require some clarity, at least as they relate to the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.   Foreign Terrorist Organizations and State Sponsors of Terrorism (as designated by the Secretary of State)   Join Joanne’s Live Interactive Cooking Class this Sunday, October 29, on The Korean Vegan Kollective.   Connect with Joanne The Korean Vegan Website The Korean Vegan Kollective The Korean Vegan Cookbook My Amazon Storefront YouTube Instagram Facebook TikTok

Loneliness.

Loneliness.

2023-10-0317:031

"[Loneliness] is associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke, depression, anxiety, and premature death. The mortality impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day, and even greater than that associated with obesity and physical inactivity." -U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory (2023).   This week, Joanne tackles the subject of loneliness and wonders whether she can "fake out" the nation's current epidemic in the same way she tried to outsmart her imposter syndrome.   Visit the episode page on The Korean Vegan website for more on the epidemic of loneliness, including pictures and links. "You need to create a 'Joanne 2.0,' a Joanne that pretends that she knows she deserves to be there as much as everyone else."   I imagined donning the guise of a totally "new" Joanne--one who was confident, made people laugh, strode into rooms with her shoulders back and her gaze straight. Only, it wouldn't really be a "new" me so much as a "fake" me, like a character in a sitcom.   While looking to trick herself out of her own Imposter Syndrome during a recent trip to NYC, Joanne discovers the true meaning of confidence.    Visit the episode page on The Korean Vegan website for more on "Faking Out Imposter Syndrome," including pictures and links. Plus, a Korean Street Food recipe, and a feature in The New York Times in "What I'm (Watching, Reading, Wearing)."   Connect with Joanne The Korean Vegan Website The Korean Vegan Kollective The Korean Vegan Cookbook My Amazon Storefront YouTube Instagram Facebook TikTok
Meet Cassey Ho, the founder and creator of not one, but two powerhouse fitness brands: Blogilates and PopFlex, both of which were born out of Cassey’s stint as a certified pilates instructor back in the late 2000s. Discover how what started out as a way to pay the bills, soon turned into a community numbering in the tens of millions, and now, two 8 figure businesses.   Cassey was born a leader, but the thing I love about her is that she completely upends the stereotype that often adheres to women in a position of power. That we must be unapproachable, aloof, even a bit of a bully, and that it is a business no-no to wear our hearts on our sleeves. This was definitely the message I received—explicitly and implicitly—when I was trying to make partner at the Firm. But Cassey doesn’t buy into that—at all. She is openly emotional, about the triumphs and the losses, and she has leaned into that quality without a trace of artifice. In so doing, she has proven that success does NOT require you to be who you aren’t. Success will follow those who lead, even with their hearts. - Joanne   Enter the Popflex giveaway!   Connect with Cassey: Blogilates Website Popflex Website YouTube Instagram TikTok   Connect with Joanne The Korean Vegan Website The Korean Vegan Kollective The Korean Vegan Cookbook My Amazon Storefront YouTube Instagram Facebook TikTok

Meet Dr. Robynne Chutkan, one of the country’s most recognizable gastroenterologists and the veritable Queen of Gut! The author of four books on the microbiome (including my personal favorite--The Microbiome Solution), Dr. Chutkan is a graduate of Yale and Columbia College, has served on the faculty at Georgetown Hospital since 1997, and was once short-listed as a candidate for the U.S. Surgeon General's office. Dr Chutkan’s philosophy is based on uncovering and remediating the root cause of digestive distress, which is often the result of damage to the microbiome from excessive antibiotics, acid blockers, immunosuppressive drugs, and a suboptimal diet. Her work has had an immense impact on my life and it's an absolute thrill to share this highly informative conversation with all of you.    Enter to win a copy of Dr. Chutkan's The Microbiome Solution and The Anti-Viral Gut.
