The LOGSTAT is the Army’s official premier podcast on all things sustainment. We analyze new developments, discuss current trends, and forge the path ahead for the next generation of sustainment Soldiers. This is an original weekly podcast that broadcasts from CASCOM on Fort Lee, Virginia. Our goal is to support and educate the sustainment enterprise all over the globe. The episodes are short and packaged for quick consumption. In each episode, the Sustainment Harding Fellow talks with sustainment leaders on a variety of topics in the sustainment enterprise. These conversations are designed to spark discussions across the enterprise and to sharpen our skills and knowledge as sustainers. Episode #19: CPT Garett Pyle meets with CPT Anna Martinez & Mrs. Carrie Vernon Spivey to discuss the Training with Industry (TWI) broadening opportunity that is available to officers, warrant officers, and enlisted personnel. Those selected to participate in TWI are embedded with industry partners and exposed to leading industry best practices and procedures. This exposure and education are an on-the-job experience that cannot be gained or replicated through the traditional military education and assignment process. This is a 36-month program with 12 months spent embedded with the industry partner and upon completion 24-months serving in an approved utilization assignment.
Mrs. Carrie Vernon Spivey serves as the Personnel Proponent for the Logistics Personnel Proponency Office at the Army Sustainment University (ASU) and CPT Anna Martinez is currently an instructor in the Captain Career Training Department for the Reserve Component at ASU. This episode will provide an overview of TWI with a focus on the opportunities that are available to the logistics officers (90As) with some firsthand experience from CPT Martinez who participated in the TWI program with Deloitte.

Episode #18: CPT Garett Pyle continues the conversation with MAJ Jonathan Shackelford on Modernization Displacement and Repair Sites (MDRS), the Rapid Removal of Excess (R2E) programs, and how to navigate the processes with the excess equipment you have in your unit. Episode #17: CPT Garett Pyle meets with MAJ Jonathan Shackelford, who recently served as a theater logistics planner in the SPO shop as the MDRS and R2E lead for the Army Sustainment Command, as they tackle the age-old question, “what do we do with all this property excess and why have we not won the war on excess?” Their conservation highlights how the Army has utilized Modernization Displacement and Repair Sites (MDRS) and the Rapid Removal of Excess (R2E) programs to help solve these issues and the challenges that have been faced. Episode #16: CPT Garett Pyle meets with CPT Misha Dantzler, the Director for the Sustainment Pre-Command Course, to discuss this course that is offered at the Army Sustainment University on Ft. Lee, VA for all LTCs, COLs, and CSMs that are taking battalion or brigade level command and responsibility. The discussion highlights all the networking opportunities and what to expect from the course, how to attend the course, and why the course is so important for sustainment leaders going into higher command to attend.

Episode #15: CPT Garett Pyle meets with COL Michael Barnett, Director of the Sustainment Exercise & Simulation Directorate (SESD) to discuss this organization that provides commanders with simulations supported training environments preparing for large scale combat operations. This is a vital training opportunity to be successful on the battlefield. Not only do their discussions provide leaders with the benefits and operations of SESD, but they provide insight into new ways to train formations. This includes their very own designed board game, “Sinews of War” to train leaders in a cost-effective manner on sustainment operations.

Episode #14: CPT Garett Pyle meets with COL William Arnold, who serves as the 34th Chief of Transportation, to discuss how the Transportation Corps is modernizing to meet the challenges and adapting in a technology-driven world of agile sustainment. In celebration of the 83rd birthday of the Transportation Corps, they analyze all these new initiatives and how they are truly a game changer for sustainment operations. Episode #13: CPT Garett Pyle meets with Mr. Keith Beverley & Mr. Jethro Mann who work in the Force Modernization Proponent Directorate under the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Procurement (ODASA (P)) to discuss the updated ATP 4-71: Contracting Support Brigade. No matter what your level of experience with contracts is, this episode is for you. They are just as much as a combat multiplier for LSCO as they were during COIN operations. This episode provides leaders of all ranks on how to integrate with Contracting Support Brigades to leverage their full capabilities.

Episode #5: CPT Garett Pyle meets with Mr. Kirk Jones, the senior doctrine developer of the Doctrine Division in CASCOM, to discuss the updates to FM: 4-0. Through their discussions they are able to provide the audience with an insight into how to use this updated FM to conduct sustainment in multidomain operations.
Episode #4: CPT Garett Pyle meets with LTC Jesse Pena, the Chief of Logistics Proponency at ASU, to discuss the major changes occurring for logistic lieutenants at the Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC), their commissioning path, and potential changes to career paths for officers in the Logistics Corps.
Episode #3: CPT Garett Pyle meets with CPT Ulysses Laman, a Reserve Officer from California, to discuss the challenges of company command from both a Reserve and Active-Duty perspective. Through their discussions they are able to provide some great tips and tricks for future company commanders from their previous experiences.
