*Please note* I'm going to take a break. I screwed up a podcast last week and I need a few months to get over it. I'll be back in January with season 2. This is part two of my conversation with Jack Alberson. We talk about webzines, his prior bands, the cover he did of a Jesus Jones song, his current and upcoming releases, some of his influences like Depeche Mode, Erasure, and Mute records. Music by Jack Alberson
I talk with musician Jack Alberson about his music, his podcast, his bands, being independent vs. being on a label and some of his favorite musicians such as: Alan Sparhawk/Low The Police Duran Duran (I kinda hijacked the conversation and didn't mean to.) Depeche Mode Crowded House Wax Trax Records Divine Front 242 The Smiths/Morrissey/Johnny Marr My Life with the Thrill Cult The The (I meant "Uncertain Smile," but I said "That Smiling Face," which is a song by Camouflage that I also love.) I talked about Powerstation and Robert Palmer. Wikipedia says I was right! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caroline_Cossey) Siouxsie and the Banshees Roxy Music David Bowie Illusionaut We also reminisce on the old new wave magazines Smash Hits/Star Hits (In my defense: I knew it was Neil Tennant, but my brain flashed on Neil Gaiman's byline for some articles so I started to doubt myself.) (I also get way personal in this one.)
Sorry I missed last week and sorry it took me so long to publish the remainder of the Zoom Party episodes. I'm going to try to finish them tonight. I'm at least gonna get this one out! In this episode, we talk about Rifftracks and Avatar. Here are the participants' links: https://sites.google.com/view/zoom-wednesday-part-one/home?authuser=1
Gail talks about her novels, the different genres she writes in, going to conventions, the paranormal, her dogs and much more. You can hear me say something that sounds incredibly silly near the beginning, but I didn't mean for it to sound that way. I meant for it to be matter-of-fact. Gail Z. This is part two of many episodes I'm editing from the two Zoom parties we had a few weeks ago. I'm going to put some of it on Youtube so as not to inundate this podcast! I had this all typed out and then I accidentally closed out the web page. In this episode, I talk with Meaghan Good, creator and maintainer of the missing person database The Charley Project. We also discuss other social issues. Oh my. This took hours. Out of 15 episodes, I've never had the sound go so badly! My speakers were possessed. So, I had to cut out a lot of the conversation. Hopefully I made the transitions smooth. There was one section where I couldn't bridge the gap logically, I put a musical interlude. It's a shame my computer acted up for this episode because I was talking to one of the original podcasters, Evo Terra. He does this stuff for a living. I couldn't get my dogs to stop barking. Oh well. We had a great conversation and you can hear most of it. He's incredibly accomplished and very gracious. He talked about his projects including his podcast, Podcast Pontifications, and his podcasting service, Simpler Media. I'll put his links below: https://www.evoterra.com/ https://scribl.com/ https://podcastlaunch.pro/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfLG3DfOIOd3cTYrjCtyrag https://www.linkedin.com/in/evoterra/ https://medium.com/@evoterra https://twitter.com/evoterra https://www.facebook.com/evoterra https://www.buymeacoffee.com/EvoTerra You can help me out by going to Humble Bundle and buying one or more of their great bundles. If you use my link, even if you don't buy what I link to, I should get credit. I bought the comics bundle I highlighted last week. It's fantastic and it's still available for 7 more days. Today I'm going to highlight Be the Change: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/be-the-change-books?partner=lola One dollar gets you 15 books. Yup. That's pennies a book. Eight dollars gets you that and 16 more books. We're at 31 total now. Fifteen dollars gets you all that and 17 more books. I feel like I'm on a sugar high. Eighteen dollars and you get all that and 17 more books. I've lost track of the total. Twenty dollars and you get all that and 18 more books. That's like nearly a hundred. I'm too tired to count. Do you and me a kindness and get these books! Music: Ice Flow by Kevin MacLeod Link: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3898-ice-flow License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

I know I sound like an infomercial, but it's all legit. I've been purchasing from Humble Bundle for years and I have a nerdgasm every time I look at a bundle. If you use the link I provided above, then I may get some of the proceeds. I need money to replace the money I spent on my dogs! Part of the proceeds also go to a specified charity. I set my charity as the NAACP.
I talk to the CCO/Co-Founder of the podcast network ESO, Earth Station One. We talk about radio (I learned something!), producing podcasts and his podcast network. Starting at 50:38, we talk about Star Trek cannon and I really step in it. I said something incredibly, unfortunately worded. Then we talk about geek news. Please keep in mind that this was recorded a few weeks ago, so the news is a little outdated. I talk with comic book writer and editor Brian Hawkins about a subject that I can't possibly talk about myself: what it's like to be a non-white person in the United States. Brian talks about his personal experiences and what he hopes for he future of race relations. We also talk about COVID. I'm going to release the 2nd part of our conversation in two weeks. This part will be about his career and comic book origins. I ask Danny questions about living and working in Montreal and how his goals and expectations have changed over the years for his music and career. He's got a lot of good advice for budding and established musicians. FYI: This was recorded a few weeks ago. It's heartbreaking to hear him talk about Chicago, New York and other American cities, knowing what's going on right now. I hope for peace and justice in my country. I talk with Wayne about how he got into podcasting and voiceover work. I ask him about past and upcoming podcasts. We also discuss a favorite singer of ours! He mentions Troy's Hollywood Outsider podcast Packers podcast definitely coming back. Kate Bush (Donald Sutherlund was in the video for "Cloudbusting." I think I was singing a different song.)
I talk with Daniel Kalban, comic book creator and writer. He details the process involved in getting his independent book (the excellent American Dreams) off the ground. I also learn about Brooklyn and NYC in general. I didn't know that each borough was its own county! This was recorded about a week and a half ago. If it sounds a little Frankensteined at the end, that's 'cause it is. I removed part of the conversation where I'm talking about another show of mine. So it sounds like he starts talking about his Demicon show without any prompting, but he was responding to me talking about my other show. #Transparency Linx: https://davidtyberg.bandcamp.com/releases https://www.twitch.tv/d_funk_ https://twitter.com/David_Tyberg https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT0Dtx3E-lmM8qSgce3sdDA https://www.facebook.com/DavidTybergMusic http://www.theextraordinarycontraptions.com/ https://www.facebook.com/theextraordinarycontraptions/ https://www.youtube.com/user/TheContraptions Intro and Outro music: Ice Flow by Kevin MacLeod Link: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3898-ice-flow License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
