Action Hero: Riley Hale We are THE LAST ACTION HEROES, the “heroic everyman thrust into an impossible situation and just making it up as we go” of movie podcasts. We are dedicated to ranking the very best and worst of action hero cinema protagonists…and so far…we’re not dead. This episode we are blasting out of this crashing plane on ejector seats and landing deep in the desert of Utah as we take on another John Woo classic: BROKEN ARROW (1996). Down on his luck stealth bomber pilot RILEY HALE suddenly finds himself thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse when his copilot and friend(?) VIC DEAKINS snaps and decides to stick it to the man by hijacking 2 thermal nuclear warheads and ransoming them back to the US for a hefty sum…hefty enough so he can live out his dream of providing safe cars for all the people he’s about to blow up. What a thoughtful guy! Can our boyish action hero break the curse of the cookie cutter 90s action stereotype and step up to the challenge of out manoeuvring his nemesis, save America and get the girl (maybe ask her her name first Riles!!)? Join us for another action hero tear down to find out!! And definitely do not ‘get to the choppa’ for this film…it doesn’t seem to work out well for those guys! Action Hero: The Warriors CAN YOU COUNT, SUCKAS?????!!! We are The Last Action Heroes, a baseball bat wielding, bottle smashing, bloodied fist of a movie podcast and we say the future of action movie heroes is ours if you can count! Now look what we have here before us: This episode we are ducking and weaving through enemy territory for one night only on the mean streets of New York and looking to do some boppin’ as we give THE WARRIORS (1979) a shot at the bigtime. When the leader of the most powerful gang in NY is assassinated at a grand gang summit, the 9 delegates of Coney Island’s The Warriors find themselves framed for the murder and stranded on the wrong side of the city. Hunted by stylish, violent gangs and brutal police, outmanned but never outclassed, our heroes find themselves in for a night of danger as they try to make their way back to their turf alive. Maybe they should have come packed! They’re good. Real good! But how good will they do in our ultimate action hero showdown? Will they bop their way to the top or will they get a bat shoved up their ass and turned into popsicles? There’s only one way to find out! Warrioooorrss….come out to plaaaayyyy-i-aaaayy!!----- Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroesInstagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast

Action Hero: Morgan Adams PSA: as any sea-dawg worth his salt knows, you can’t embark on a voyage without a good stash of rum…and so, for this voyage on the good ship TLAH the rum was plentiful. Maybe too plentiful. Caution: side effects include giggling, arguments, nonsense and spontaneous rapping. Listener discretion is advised. Avast ye and welcome to The Last Action Heroes, a swashbuckling, eye patch wearing no good swindler of a movie podcast where we rate the very best and worst of Hollywood’s leading lads and lassies. This episode we take to the high seas aboard the Morning Star under Captain Morgan Adams as we race her diabolical uncle to the family jewels in CUTTHROAT ISLAND (1995). After the death of her father Morgan Adams must take command of her fathers vessel and ragtag extras…(sorry we meant crew. Ragtag crew) and prove her piratey worth in securing the biggest bounty on the high seas. Unfortunately her bloodthirsty FOMO uncle is also on the trail so Morgan will have to keep her wits, and her costume changes about her. Can our fair weather leading lady face up to the challenge?? You’ll have to tune in to find out! So buckle up, hoist the anchor and drop the sheets cause it’s time to go a pirating!! And please visit this show again when you have more time.
Action Hero: Sarah Connor & T800-101 We are The Last Action Heroes, a mini gun toting, motorbike riding, unstoppable killing machine of a movie podcast on a mission to rate the very best and worst of action cinema protagonists from across the ages. In our first episode of season 3 we decided there’s no fate but what we make for ourselves so we travelled back in time from the future war to warn the world about TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY! (1991) Wait..y’all have seen it!!?? Well then you know what we’re taking about when we say it’s an absolute banger!!!! In 1992 Los Angeles, future war hero and all round saviour dude John Connor is marked for termination by the T1000: a shapeshifting liquid metal killing machine sent back through time. Luckily future John remembered his prepubescent years (and what a horrible time that was) and sent back another terminator to act as his protector: the iconic T800. Together with Johns mother SARAH CONNOR, the survivor of a previous termination attempt (and plagued by dreams of the worst BBQ party ever!), this unlikely family unit decide to fight back against the threat of the future and change the course of history. A woman suffering severe PTSD and a killer robot may not seem like the basis for great action heroes but what unfolds is often heralded as one of the greatest action movies of all time. Each of our heroes certainly has more than their moment to shine but how will they hold up in our ultimate action hero showdown? Hit that play button and come with us if you want to live! ————— Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroes Instagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast

Action Hero: Nada Welcome to The Last Action Heroes, an ass kicking, bubble gum chewing, tight jean wearing movie podcast on a mission to rate the very best and worst of action cinema protagonists across the ages.  In this episode we throw on some cool as fuck sunnies and wake up to fight the oppression of 80s extreme capitalism in John Carpenters 1988 cult classic THEY LIVE.  Down on his luck drifter NADA discovers the rat race is not all it’s cracked up to be when he comes into possession of a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see the world for what is: a world where humanity has been enslaved in a capitalist dystopia run by an alien race who live a life of luxury at our expense.  Figured it’d be something like this! With his hulking stature, impressive fighting style and even more impressive one liners, NADA is not the kind of guy to take this shit lying down and he soon embarks on a rampage to take down the alien threat. But where will his glorious mullet land on TLAH leaderboard?  Join us to find out…and remember…OBEY, CONSUME & CONFORM ——————— Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroes Instagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast

Action Hero: John Wick We are The Last Action Heroes, a kung fu fighting, gun wielding, professional killer of a movie podcast on a mission to rate the very best and worst of action cinema protagonists. This episode we are kicking back with none other than the Baba Yaga!! We’ve got our feet up in her cosy little chicken legged house, the fire’s roaring and we’re watching TV. Would the Baba Yaga have a tv we hear you say? Damn straight she would and she’d probably be watching JOHN FUCKING WICK: CHAPTER 2! That’s right, the badass assassin finally makes his TLAH debut, kicking, punching, and shooting his way onto our ultimate action hero leader board. After killing his dog, stealing his car and generally messing with his shit, the bad guys prove they don’t have a lot to learn from the first movie (honestly you’d think they’d have watched it!) and this time they are back to drag JOHN WICK back into the shadowy world of assassin hotel entrepreneurs as they blow up his house, nearly his second dog and force him to take up the life he thought he left behind. Luckily for us John Wick is a man of focus, determination and sheer fucking will, tearing up the screen with a movie chock full of awesome cars, gorgeous people, bone breaking fight scenes and balletic gunplay that would make John Wu gush. Something tells us this guy has a real shot at hitting the leader board high. Join us to find out where he makes his mark and somebody pleeeeasse, get this man a gun! Action Hero: Ghost We are The Last Action Heroes, a tough talking, hard hitting movie podcast on a mission to rate the very best and worst of action cinema protagonists. This episode we settle on the moody shores of proto-North America circa 1000AD, as a horde of blood thirsty goth’s…sorry…Vikings make landfall and do what Vikings do best: give out hugs and teddy bears to the locals. Wait…we got that wrong. We meant murder and pillage. The Vikings murder and pillage the local Wampanoag tribe in 2005’s PATHFINDER. Luckily for them they have a secret weapon in the form of GHOST; an abandoned Viking child raised by the Native Americans to become a fearsome warrior with an emo outlook on life and a white saviour complex. Can Ghost channel the spirit of the Pathfinder and use the strength of this seemingly unstoppable force against it to save his surrogate family from annihilation? More importantly: does Ghost have what it takes to become our ultimate last action hero? Maybe…if he can figure out who he is. ---------- Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroes Instagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast

Action Hero: Ash Williams We are THE LAST ACTION HEROES, a hard hitting movie podcast where we rate the very best and worst of action cinemas greatest leading men and women. Most as we can figure the year is 1300AD and we’re being dragged to our death. But how the hell did we get here? Best ask loud mouth braggart ASH WILLIAMS as we give him the TLAH tear down for a place in our ultimate action hero leaderboard with Sam Raimi’s 1992 cult classic ARMY OF DARKNESS. With a sawn off double barrelled Remington, a chainsaw for a hand, a big personality complex and the most majestic chin ever to grace our screens, we put Ash through his paces to argue why he more than deserves a spot amongst the action hero greats of our time. Action Hero: John Rambo Leaving behind the glittery pop punk stylings of modern Gotham, The Last Action Heroes go on the run in this months episode, heading into the rain soaked forests of North America with action hero royalty: Rambo: First Blood (1982). Action heroes don’t come more recognisable than this! But is this the Rambo we all know and love? Who actually did draw first blood? (Spoiler: Not Rambo…he forgot his crayons!) Why did this escalate so badly? Could this have all been avoided if they’d just bought him a burger?? We get into all this and more as Sly Stallone's soulful soldier takes a strike at The Last Action Hero leaderboard. Join us as we find out where the Italian stallions (silverback) guerrilla fighting, red bandana wearing, M60 toting 80s beefcake makes his mark.

Join us as we talk Birds of Prey (and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), or Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. We never did get to the bottom of that whole title thing. Anyway… We dive deep into discussion around this small squad of badass women vs a proper bastard of a villain. Can she kick ass? Where does she get all those wonderful clothes? All this over a sandwich? Where the hell is The Batman? With laughs, riot guns, roller-skates, swears and plenty of glitter join us as we break out the leaderboard and reveal if Harley Quinn has what it takes to be crowned our fantabulous, number 1, Last Action Hero.

Action Hero: "Tequila" Yuen Grab yourself a baby and a shotgun and get ready to cook some fools as THE LAST ACTION HEROES PODCAST takes a bullet dodging leap back through time to the seedy underworld of 90’s Hong Kong for a bullet ballet of epic proportions. In this explosive fourth episode of Season 2 we’re in for some X rated action…no, not that kind…though we do have some sexy sax and synth! Give this guy a gun he thinks he’s superman. Give him two and he thinks he’s God! That’s right we are giving TEQUILA YUEN the TLAH teardown with John Woo’s explosive, western breakthrough bonanza HARD BOILED (1992). Following a disastrous raid on a local teahouse(!?!) in which his partner was gunned down – along with most of the clientele – the job becomes personal for Inspector Tequila. As gun running mobsters fight a territorial war to exert a stranglehold over the city, our hero must now turn to his only lead if he hopes to crack the case and get his revenge; an undercover cop by the name of……………Alan. But Al has been working as a double agent for so long the lines of justice and criminality are becoming blurred. His loyalty to Johnny Wong and his thugs, and to the law will make him either a dangerous enemy or a formidable ally…just hope you don’t get a paper crane through the mail! Luckily for Tequila, gunfights are just another day on the job…and he can more than handle himself. Action movies do not come bigger than this… Seriously can this movie even spell collateral damage?! But where will Inspector Tequila Yuen place in our action hero leader board? Join episode host JESPER and his duel-wielding podsquad BJORN, LEON & DAN as they discuss whether this tough talkin’, matchstick chewing, baby loving one man army has what it takes to be our ultimate last action hero! ---------- Find us on Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroes Or find us on Instagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast

The Fifth Element (1997)

2022-03-3001:36:23

Action Heroes: Korben & Leeloo Wind blows...fire burns....THE LAST ACTION HEROES PODCAST kicks ass!!! In our third episode of Season 2 we head into a 90s vision of the far future where everything is neon coloured and everyone is hot ‘n’ horny, as we join not one, but two heroes in their adventure to save the world: one a superpowered, genetically engineered bioweapon with fluorescent orange hair and a penchant for hand-to-hand combat, the other is Bruce Willis…in a vest…with a gun. Wait didn’t we do this film already??  Not quite like this…we’re talking the super stylish, euro sci-fi epic THE FIFTH ELEMENT (1997).  200 years in the future an ancient, cosmic evil has re-remerged after 5000 years of laying dormant. Its purpose: to extinguish all life in the Universe (or just earth…haven’t got that bit quite figured out yet). In response an alien race of guardians has created a weapon to destroy it; 4 stones, each imbued with the elemental powers of fire, earth, wind, and water, must be united around a fifth element, a supreme being representing love and life. After inconveniently being shot down, killed, and resurrected with DNA cloning technology, our hero LEELOO arrives on earth ready to save the day. Teaming up with lovelorn, ex-military weapons (very much) and transport (not so much) expert KORBEN DALLAS our heroes find themselves in a race against time to recover the 4 stones and save the earth/ universe/ (multiverse?) from total annihilation, all whilst learning the value of life and love along the way. There may even be time for some smooching too! With each of our heroes bringing their own unique (well, Leeloo anyway) style to the action hero role, how will LEELOO and John McClane…sorry…KORBEN!! stack up in the ultimate action hero showdown? Join episode host DAN and his 3 elemental podcasters LEON, JESPER & BJORN as they discuss whether the superpowered duo have what it takes. MULITPASS! Action Hero: Jack Burton Escaping the deserts of the American mid-west to the haunted underworld realms of Chinatown, San Francisco, this is THE LAST ACTION HEROES PODCAST Season 2 and we’re talking to whoever’s listening out there. We’re heading into our second episode with a heavy hitter (and even louder mouth), of the 80’s as they take a shot at the TLAH leaderboard with a machine gun in one hand, a knife in the other and the coolest vest/jeans combo Hollywood has ever seen. We are of course discussing JACK BURTON (who?!) from John Carpenters beloved cult classic BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (1986).After making a delivery and catching up with some old friends in San Francisco, Jack Burton accompanies his friend Wang Chi home to collect on an outstanding debt. En route they make a detour to the airport to pick up Wang’s fiancée Miao Yin who is arriving from China that morning. But things go awry when Miao is very publicly captured by a Chinese street gang. Giving chase in his trusty truck The Porkchop Express, Jack and Wang trace the gang to a Chinatown back alley where things take a turn for the weird! As mysterious supernatural warriors seize Miao Yin for their master Lo Pan, our hero is suddenly swept into a world of Chinese mythology and black magic; a world he knows nothing about. Facing off against ancient supernatural powers, Chinese street gangs and strange monsters, Jack and Wang must rescue Miao Yin (and possibly, get Jack’s truck back in the process!!) before Lo Pan can reclaim his power and take over the earth. But has Ol’ Jack paid his dues? There’s only one way to find out. Join episode host BJORN and his 3 storms LEON, JESPER & DAN as they put the man with the amazing mullet, and even more amazing reflexes, to the test.Hit play, sit tight, hold the fort and keep those home fires burning…and if we’re not back by dawn…call the President. ---------- Find us on Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroes Or find us on Instagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast

Action Heroes: Val & Earl Listen? You feel that? That distant rumbling….that quaking beneath your feet? That’s right! It’s The Last Action Heroes crashing into 2022 with our brand new second season!!This time the gloves are off as we change things up and pit a bevy of cinematic heroes against each other, Mano e Mano from across the ages of the HCU (Hollywood Cinematic Universe…shut up it’s a thing!) in the ultimate showdown to find out just who is the last action hero (besides us of course). To kick things off we’re braving the American mid-west desert with loveable cowboys Val and Earl in the original sand worm movie TREMORS (1990).Despite its name not all is well in the sleepy town of Perfection. People are falling prey to giant wormlike creatures burrowing beneath the sands and our heroes are going to need to keep their wits about them (if they have any) if they are going to get out of here alive. But are they up to the task?Join our episode host LEON and his 3 mean desperados BJORN, JESPER and DAN as they weigh up the odds on the reluctant duo to set the bar for the battle to come! Firewalker (1986)

Firewalker (1986)

2021-11-1801:01:36

They say Chuck Norris once took on The Last Action Heroes…and the fallout could be heard for miles. Chuck Norris never talks of the events that happened that day…they just haunt him. Like a bad dream. Kind of like his 1986 comedy caper ‘FIREWALKER’ which gets the TLAH teardown this episode. Max (Chuck Norris) and Leo (Louis Gosset Jr) are two down on their luck fortune hunters: losing money and making enemies wherever they go. Such is the life of an adventurer. But when bubbly legal secretary Patricia (Melody Anderson) approaches the duo with a business proposition, Max and Leo’s luck may be about to change. From the deserts of Asia (or is it the Middle East? Or the US?) to the jungles of Mexico, the trio find themselves on the hunt for an ancient Incan (or is it Indian? Mayan? Possibly even Martian? Who knows) treasure. Along the way they’ll encounter soldiers, alligators, fearsome (possibly) Indian warriors and a metric fuck ton of bananas! All the while hunted by El Coyote (Sonny Landham in his first non-Billy role). Did we mention he’s also a cyclops? A red one! With all the martial arts action you’d expect from a Chuck Norris movie (if you’re lucky), romancing and bromancing galore, John Rhys Davies in a breakout role as ‘(not)Sallah’ and a ‘Patricias possibly psychic’ subplot that may or may not lead somewhere, join show host Chuck Jorris (possibly Jesper), and his high kicking co-hosts Chuck Bjorris (might be Bjorn), Chuck Lorris (could be Leon) and Chuck Dorris (I think that’s Dan) as they brave the legend of…The Firewalker!
Batman (1989)

Batman (1989)

2021-10-0101:48:15

Some say they can’t be killed. Some say they drink blood. Others simply say they are psychotic vigilantes…watchful protectors over the best and worst of retro action cinema. We are THE LAST ACTION HEROES and this episode we’re suiting up to stalk the shadowy, crime ridden streets of Gotham in Tim Burton’s 1989 franchise maker BATMAN!! Orphaned at an early age, lonesome brooding billionaire Bruce Wayne now stalks the twilight cityscape of Gotham as caped crime fighter Batman, sowing the seeds of fear and justice against the criminal underworld. However, with journalists Vicki Vale and Alexander Knox on his tail and following a fateful encounter at Axis Chemicals one night, the Bats legend is about to become reality with the emergence of a new type of villain with a taste for the theatrical: The Joker! What follows is a bat-shit (excuse the pun) crazy and insanely fun comic book romp that would set the template for action hero cinema for years to come and make a visionary young director every bit a household name as his pop culture creations. With truly excellent, trauma ridden lead performances from Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, a uniquely dark and oppressive take on Gotham and a questionably upbeat, New Wave soundtrack from none other than Prince, join BJORN-man, A-LEONfred, Harvey DANt and JESPER aka: ‘Bob the Goon’ as they take on the film that singlehandedly kicked every other 80s era action hero square in the bollocks! Black Rain (1989)

2021-10-0101:39:34

Okaerinasai! Following a brief summer hiatus, The Last Action Heroes are back baby! This time we are taking on the Yakuza as we are escorted to the Land of The Rising Sun by renegade cop and dad with a mullet Michael Douglas in the 1989 Ridley Scott noir thriller BLACK RAIN. After witnessing a bloody and brutal Yakuza killing in a bustling New York restaurant, Detectives Nick Conklin and Charlie Vincent are tasked with escorting deranged murderer Sato back to Japan and handing him over to the authorities. However, after a daring escape at Osaka airport, the detectives soon find themselves in a dangerous game of cat and mouse in a hostile foreign landscape, bound by honour and tradition where not everyone is playing by the rules. Dripping with style and 80s aesthetic, East vs West visual motifs and featuring possibly the most tenuous link to its title we have ever come across, join BJORN KACHO-SAN, LEON-SAN, JESPER-SAN and DAN-SAN as we seek to find out if Michael Douglas really is the baddest renegade cop on the block or is he just having a mid-life crisis? Will Black Rain have the strongest of hearts or will it leave us holding on? ---------- Find us on Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroes Or find us on Instagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast
WHIP! CRAACK! Insert Wilhelm scream here!! It’s time to dust off your fedora and follow in the footsteps of Shiva as THE LAST ACTION HEROES go forth to combat evil in INDIANA JONES & THE TEMPLE OF DOOM! The year before he started punching Nazis in the face, Henry Jones Jr (Harrison Ford) embarked on a wild and dangerous adventure from the glamorous criminal underworld of Shanghai, across the Himalayas and into the realms of terror in deepest, darkest India; all in the name of fortune and glory. Joined by his loveable, energetic side kick ShortRound (Ke Huy Quan) and the decibel breaking diva Willie Scott (Kate Capshaw), the trio find themselves falling prey to a revived, evil religious cult with a penchant for kidnapping, tearing out hearts and dropping people into a nice warm lava bath (It’s great for the skin apparently). Featuring more creepy crawlies than anyone is comfortable with, a whirlwind mine-cart chase, a thrilling river raft ride and a hearty bug banquet to give ‘I’m a celebrity’ a run for its money, we delve into the heart of darkness to uncover what made this movie so divisive, yet featured the best action set pieces ever committed to celluloid. So suit up and get ready for adventure with our episode host LEON as he deftly navigates BJORN, JESPER and DAN through the dangerous depths of Pankot Palace and hopefully, just hopefully, makes it out alive. The boys are back in town! Going back to our roots for this episode THE LAST ACTION HEROES take to the grimy, crime ridden streets of San Francisco in a beat-up blue Cadillac convertible as we check out the gritty 1982 odd-couple classic 48HRS.Whilst investigating a simple case of credit card fraud, grizzled San Francisco cop Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) has a bloody encounter with recently escaped convict Albert Ganz (James Remar) and his psychotic right hand man Billy Bear (Sonny Landham in his 386th role as Billy). Barely getting away with his life and wanting revenge, Cates takes on the case to track down these violent fugitives and bring them to justice…dead or alive. Enlisting the help of ex-gang member Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), who is currently serving the last few months of a 3-year prison sentence, Cates has 48hrs to crack the case and find Ganz before his informant Reggie must return to his cell and Ganz and Billy Bear skip town with Reggie’s nest egg: $500,000. Will the duo be able to put aside their differences and work together? Will Reggie finally get some? Will Dan ever manage to construct a cohesive sentence in this episode? With a slew of hard-hitting writing talent, stark narrative and visual contrasts, layers of dark humour and a stellar breakout performance from Eddie Murphy in his first film role, we get into this surprisingly hard-boiled, violent movie that would go on to set the formula for the buddy cop sub-genre for years to come.Featuring the whiskey breakfast chugging, ‘one day till retirement’ tones of Hardboiled Grumpy Detective Jack’SPER Cates, LEON-ggie Hammond, Billy BJORN, and Albert DANz.This episode is brought to you by Vroman’s in the Fillmore, where the party goes on 48hrs a day. ---------- Find us on Twitter: @TL_ActionHeroes Or find us on Instagram: @thelastactionheroespodcast
At the center of the universe, at the border between the light and the dark stand 4 brave warriors. For countless ages, they have kept the world of 80's movie podcasts in harmony. But the armies of darkness do not rest and the capture of streaming services is ever most in their minds. For those who control the streams, will come the power. The power to be supreme... the power to be almighty... the power to be...THE LAST ACTION HEROES! This episode, join He-DAN, Master Of The JESPERverse, SkeLEONtor and GwilBJORN as we take up the fight against the evil Lord Skeletor to win back Eternia in the 1987 disaster-piece MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE! Inspired by the worldwide toy phenomena and smash hit 80's cartoon series, we follow Dolph Lundgren (for better or worse) as he takes on the lofty mantle of He-Man! The forces of Snake Mountain have won. Using a device known as The Cosmic Key (the cawsmic key!!) Skeletor has overthrown Castle Grayskull and won the war that had every 80's kid on the edge of their seats every day after school. Out manoeuvred and out gunned, He-Man and his friends flee to earth where they lose The Cosmic Key (the cawsmic key!!), their only way home, and seem very confused about the whole situation. Pursued by relentless mercenaries He-Man must trust in his newfound earthling friends if he is to get back to Eternia, save Grayskull and confront Skeletor in the ultimate 80's showdown between good and evil. With some incredible production talent, questionable adaptation choices, rad synthesisers and a wonderfully Shakespearean performance from Frank Langella as Skeletor, we delve into this problematic but charming film to dissect what made it such a divisive and critical failure for everyone involved. So, fire up your Cosmic Keys (the cawsmic key), punch in those coordinates and get your ass ready for battle. We will win back Grayskull!
