Ep #304: Being Selfish

Ep #304: Being Selfish

2020-01-2300:24:4811

I wanted to address the idea of selfishness in this episode because I think a fundamental misunderstanding holds a lot of people – women especially – back. When we don’t take care of ourselves, we’ll never live up to our potential as the most powerful contributors we can be. It’s time to update our common definition of selfishness – or replace it with the idea of self-care once and for all. Get full show notes and more information here: https://thelifecoachschool.com/304

I wish I had that quote painted on my wall. "Your past is not the problem. It's your thought about the past that's the problem." Also, "I had exactly the childhood I was supposed to have in order to become the person I am today." I wasted so much time dwelling on a father who left when I was 4, loved alcohol more than he loved his children, and who never really grew up. Forgiveness liberates me from that emotional "gerbil wheel." Focusing in the future is sooo much more productive. Thank you, Brooke, for sowing the seeds of emotional freedom.

Very interesting podcast. I am childfree and I wonder if you know any lifecoach that is specialized in helping women with no kids, in general life or in this particular midlife period? Thank you

This is spot on. There are so many times at work where I get a phone call or read an email that upsets me and I immediately reach for the snack drawer beside my desk. I've caught myself a couple of times and thought how interesting it is that I immediately stuff those feelings by stuffing my face. Thank you again for another insightful episode.

Always love your stuff Brooke. The only wince I had when I heard this episode was in your morning mantra examples. Saying that "today is going to be an amazing day," "I'm going to feel great today." "Going to" anything is speaking into the future when as we know through LOA you have to speak as though you ALREADY have it. "Today IS an amazing day," "I FEEL great today." Speaking into the present.

Dealing w/ regret in this moment. Relationship regret. Self sabotaging. I've recognized that I've been able to take big risks in life in almost all other areas except for relationships. So much fear, and doubt in my ability. This is a lesson that will help me in the future. As much as I don't want to feel the regret anymore, I have yet to be successful in changing my thoughts to something believable for myself. Still working on finding them.

I’m FEELING pretty excited about the possibilities of how this idea can have a big impact in my relationships with my children, spouse and close relationships! And the conversations it may spark, as well as what I’ll learn about my closest people that I’ve yet to uncover =)

Hi Brooke! In this episode you encourage us to do a "thought download" but there is no explanation of what that is or how to do it. You also state you teach this in How to Solve Any Problem but I do not see that book available on the website. Can you please help! TY

Apparently no lastly! Lol. How do we develop neutral thoughts? It seems that the way our untamed brains work is to go from one extreme thought on the spectrum to another extreme thought on the opposite end of the spectrum. Creating neutral thoughts that lie in the middle is a new concept and it makes perfect sense. Since it HAS to be believable! If you could share how to create those neutral thoughts I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks again.

Lastly, how do we walk a client through the model in a session, from beginning to end? I am working on my financial goal of attending the LCS but in the meantime, how can I begin using this model w/ myself and clients? Thank you.
