Description
Theo Hayez is missing in Byron Bay, a beautiful beachside town on Australia’s most easterly mainland point, frequently in the spotlight for its famous residents. Theo's from Brussels. He's 18 and on a backpacking holiday when he vanishes in May 2019. Behind the scenes local volunteers who've never met Theo begin searching and investigating with his family, parallel to a major police investigation.
At the request of Theo's family, The Australian newspaper's national crime correspondent David Murray joins the unofficial search party to investigate the mysterious disappearance for a new podcast series, The Lighthouse. Theo left a local bar around 11pm. As the search narrows to the area around the 118-year-old Cape Byron Lighthouse, a range of theories emerge.
From the newspaper that brought you The Teacher's Pet and Who The Hell is Hamish, The Lighthouse investigates all possible scenarios as it takes you inside an extraordinary search.

A very well researched and presented Australian true crime podcast
Very well done. I'll be staying tuned for more updates.
So sad and such a confusing story. I'm thinking that his phone could have been stolen... who says it was Theo who took that route through the bush? His phone did but not necessarily him. Just a thought. Fingers crossed his family can get some answers
It sounds like his drink may have been spiked, a relatively common thing in Byron. I feel bad for the staff member(s) who kicked him out, they would feel so guilty.
I am amazed at all the beautiful people who have given their time to help in the search. out of a really tragic situation there is a little glow of humanity that came from this. Thankyou everyone
Xxs
is it possible for you to put up a map showing where Theo walked that night with the way he including the Wake Up hostel and the pub and Cosy Corner please? it would help me when you talk about his route. thanks 🌝
I think the investigative journalism into the disapperance of young Theo is so good and vital. Because it happened so recently, there's probably more chance of finding him or an answer or theory to what happened. Diving in and leaving no stone unturned, doing what others don't have time to do. This could well bring about what is needed to solve this case. Thank God for Google. I have often looked at my recent activity and thought, this is great should anything happen. Good work guys! My heart and sympathy go out to his parents and family. Let's hope this investigation and podcast answers questions and brings Theo home.
I want more David Murray productions
So sad for Theos loved ones but at the same time it's beautiful to see the community coming together to do what they can to help find Theo. My heart goes out to his family and friends I hope his friends find their way back to enjoying each other again too
did they find his actual phone? I think Theo was with someone when he went missing. As he was looking at his phone when he was walking the streets because he was lost maybe he was mugged for the phone. It seems strange that Theo would walk through bushland to get back to the hostel when that wasn't his original route.
Very well put together and researched. Well done Byron Bay community for banding together and getting so much accomplished
Mr David Murray, can I talk with you on messenger/facebook please ?
Merci à tous pour ce podcast, il est vraiment très bien réalisé ❤️Thank you all for this great podcast !
so sad it crushes my heart 😭

I'm intrigued now.
