Poetry from Pearl

Poetry from Pearl

2020-09-1943:10

In her 90s, Pearl has learned a lot about love.  In this episode, she shares one of her favorite pastimes - writing poems about love, life and appreciation.  Enjoy!
It was more than puppy love. Pearl Hillary Tang Aqui, or Aunty Pearl as we call her, fell in love with Gerard Aqui when she was a teenager. He promised they’d get married when he came back from oversees. But she never heard from him. He seemed to have disappeared. Decades later, they got married; a journey spanning three countries involving chance meetings, a heart attack, cancer and the realization that they could not live without each other.
Lisa and Byron find themselves in familiar territory during the coronavirus pandemic. They're both quarantining separately and missing each other, just like they did when they took a year-long break. In this episode, Byron and Lisa talk about meeting at work, the events that led to "the break", and how Byron won over Lisa's family who were not thrilled about him at first.
Chris and Raidirys danced around each other for years but they first had to battle their own demons, including, deadly disease and bad relationships, to get on the same frequency. A focus on healthy living and self-healing helped them to finally see each other because they had a new appreciation for themselves and the world around them.
Elijah and Dominic didn't have to work hard to fall in love, but getting to that first date was not so simple. Elijah had to spend 90 days coaching a guy who he thought ghosted him online, but he couldn't resist stealing glances on the sidelines until he was able to finally slide into his DM. Elijah and Dominic discuss how to make space for love, and why relationships don't have to be hard work.

Sometimes life brings exactly what we ask for, and then it scares the crap out of us.
