How do individuals decide whether to accept human causes of climate change, vaccinate their children against childhood diseases, or practice social distancing during a pandemic? Democracies depend on educated citizens who can make informed decisions for the benefit of their health and well-being, as well as their communities, nations, and planet. Understanding key psychological explanations for science denial and doubt can help provide a means for improving scientific literacy and understanding—critically important at a time when denial has become deadly. In Science Denial: Why It Happens and What to Do About It, the authors identify the problem and why it matters and offer tools for addressing it. In this episode we interview the authors about the book, their work, and what we can do about it! Get a copy of the book, and the new paperback here: https://academic.oup.com/book/39889 or https://www.amazon.com/Science-Denial-Happens-What-About/dp/0190944684

Should the world of science have any bearing on the world of morality? Does a scientific fact imply a moral obligation? Should the way something "is" tell us how we "ought" to act? Or are morals, goodness and badness, justice and injustice, are these concepts that exist outside of the confines of experience? We discuss this interesting challenge on this episode.

It’s worth pointing out that social media companies are advertising companies who let people use their secondary services. Letting people socialize is not their primary service nor do they have availability and consistency of service regulations that actually define a utility. Social media companies are private companies and their right to deny service to anyone at their own discretion is well established. No shirt, no shoes, no service isn’t a law.
great shows on the Unabomber
Breaking math brought me here but now I’m questioning breaking math for suggesting this garbage.
Sooo, nobody sees the problem with 20th Century people defending the Shakespeare ghost writer idea by saying 17th Century Shakespeare could not have known about 17th Century court because he was not of the Peerage?
Full of promise, but makes the amateur mistake of channeling their insecurity into annoyingly pointless non-humour. Professionalism grows from a core of confidence, and listeners respect professionalism. Live up to your potential, respect yourselves and your audience... Tone, please consider tone.
