Description

What started as a podcast to help moms building an online craft business has turned into creating a community for moms on a hard journey. Now the Maker's Space is about adoption, family and a WHOLE lotta faith!

Through the adoption journey of an older child, sibling group, I found little support for my families' intense struggles. I slipped into a depression and no longer found joy in things I had done before like sewing or crafting. The behaviors in the house also did not allow for sharp objects, like scissors, to be kept out in the open.

Creating has now become my therapy.

If you know what R.A.D. means, have locks on your doors or security cameras in hallways of your home, if you love Hobby Lobby OR if you can relate to BOTH...I would LOVE to hear from you!

I see you. God sees you. Let's connect.

Bringing a hard adoption & craft community together.

One of my "life verses" is Isaiah 40:31 - "But those who wait on (or hope in) the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint."SO many times I have been forced to wait and rest so the Lord can renew me and take me to new heights in my faith. I don't think it's ever easy for some one who is a recovering people-pleaser and control enthusiast. But it's worth it.Be encouraged today, Mama. He sees you.
"I even verbally vocalized how hurt and angry and upset that I was at the whole situation. This was not what I signed up for. This was not anything that I knew how to do. How did God, you know, even think that I could do this? I didn't understand. And he let me just spout off."How many times do we find ourselves in situations like this and sometimes all we need is a walk. Briskly. Away from our homes. If but for a moment.
A reading from the first devotional in my book - Adoption Survival Guide - A Devotional Activity Journal.I hope this gives you encouragement on your journey.
In the last episode, I admitted that I was not a good friend prior to our adoption. I did not understand the techniques I saw others using with their kids and thought I knew more and could do better. Pride comes before a fall so Jesus handed me my pride when I had SOOO many people try to “help” me parent my trauma filled children. This week, I am sharing some things that Jennifer Alford discovered as a long term missionary in Honduras that helped her understand her adopting friends better. She watched many families go through the heartbreak of a hard adoption only to see it disrupted in the end. In this episode we share tips on how to be a good friend and if we think we are doing adoption wrong as a whole. Thanks for joining us! Hope you enjoy!
When I go through a particularly hard season, I try to learn from the experience. This allows the Holy Spirit to build my character and hope. In this episode, I have compiled a few things that would have been beneficial to know or learn before we adopted. If you are in the hard right now, I encourage you to let me know if there is something to add that I missed or if what I said maybe hit home for you. If you are just starting on your adoption journey, let me know if there was something you hadn’t thought of or if there should be more discussion of a topic. If you are struggling to find help, send me an email & let me know where you are. I am not an expert but I do love a research challenge and would be happy to help you as much as possible. Sometimes it’s just finding the right person in a sea of wrong ones. Just don’t give up hope. I am praying for you all the time. God sees you.If you are looking for a safe community to share and exist, I have created a private group called The Maker’s Space on Heartbeat. Here is the link if you would like to join.
Ep. 18 - Adoption will take us to the very core of our belief system. It will challenge everything about your belief system and you have to be prepared for that. Whether you're in it, thinking about it, have been through it, the most important thing is to not let go of your faith.Friends & family will fail us during our journey but we can't let that be where we camp. We have to take another breath, another step, do another day. Sometimes that doesn't come easy and we have to tell our minds to "get in line!"In this podcast I share some self-care ideas as well as some encouragement for those in the battle.Hope you enjoy!~Kam~ Join the Maker's Space Community ~Since the adoption journey is a very personal thing, the community is a paid subscription. This helps eliminate trolls and encourages a safe sharing environment.
The bible talks about taking care of the widow and the orphan in the book of James. It does not cover how to do it or what the cost is. It also does not tell us that people will think you are “amazing” until you have to parent these broken young people differently than normal. Some of these children have to be parented backwards from the mainstream and if you can find help for them, you may be ostracized for even looking for the help. I know that there are some mama’s out there who are in the struggle. You answered an adoption call and it is HARD! You don’t feel like anyone gets it and NOBODY will help you. I am going to be joining together my ventures to discuss adoption journeys as well as building an online craft business, so if you or someone you know has been through a hard or a failed adoption, this podcast is now for you.  Since I have always been a seamstress and then I started my online business as my own therapy, I can’t be the ONLY crazy one out there! Oh wait…I’m not crazy! A judge made sure of that…but that’s a story for another time.
