After a short hiatus we're back! This time we take a look at three films from one of Hollywood's most accomplished horror maestros. John Carpenter. The Thing, Prince of Darkness, and In the Mouth of Madness all have a Lovecraftian feel and as fans of everything Lovecraft we take a look at these films and what they add to the wide world of Lovecraft influenced film and media.  ***SPECIAL THANKS*** To the H.P. The first (?) season of Lovecraft Country comes to an exciting conclusion!  Do the ends justify the means?  Have the alumni found a new appreciation for the story as it comes to an end? Let us know what you thought of this episode and the series as a whole. Did you enjoy Lovecraft Country?  Did you find it to be "scary"? What did you like and dislike about it? What are you hoping for in future seasons? ***SPECIAL THANKS*** To the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society for allowing us to use their custom fonts for our title cards. The penultimate episode of Lovecraft Country is here sending us on an adventure back in time to yet another shockingly terrible moment in civil rights history.  As the plot points start coming together, is the show setting itself up for a grand finale?  Or is it poised to fall on its face? What do you think about it as we prepare for the conclusion? ***SPECIAL THANKS*** To the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society for allowing us to use their custom fonts for our title cards. The Alums take on the eighth episode of Lovecraft Country.  The end of the season is relentlessly approaching like a pair of dancing demon girls.  Is the series building up for an amazing conclusion?  Or is it wobbling off the rails? ***SPECIAL THANKS*** To the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society for allowing us to use their custom fonts for our title cards. The return (of sorts) of a beloved character!  Is it enough to keep up the momentum from last week's episode?  Or has Lovecraft Country's return to the main story also brought back the return of mediocrity? We definitely have a few things to say about it.  What did you think?  How did you enjoy "I Am"?  Let us know! And remember, the first Friday of each month for the remainder of 2020 is Band Camp Friday where all proceeds from purchases on Band Camp go directly to the artists.  As stated in the video, we highly recommend two familiar names from the HPLHS Dark Adventure Radio Theatre series: Reber Clark Troy Sterling Nies Please support them and any of the other great musicians sharing their art with the world on that site! ***SPECIAL THANKS*** To the H.P. We discuss an episode about metamorphosis and wonder if our opinions on this intriguing show are beginning to transform as well.  We're only at the midpoint of the season but is the series running out of steam?  What do you think of Lovecraft Country so far?  Let us know what you like or don't like about it. ***SPECIAL THANKS*** To the H.P. Hey you guys! Join us as we discuss episode 4 of Lovecraft Country as the brave trio of heroes go on a speed run through the Indiana Jones adventure catalogue in a subterranean tunnel and then with an encounter straight out of The Goonies. Episode 3 of Lovecraft Country may have a house full of horrific-looking ghosts but was it "scary"?  That seems to be the bulk of our conversation this week as we reflect on the horror and pulp aspects of this series.  How did you feel about the episode?  Let's talk about it!  Comment here or on our social media! We're still getting set up to provide the content we had planned.  Forgive us as we learn the ropes and, as always, join in on the conversation.  Our goal is to interact with fellow fans of Lovecraft's particular brand of horror. See the links on our channel to visit us on Instagram and Twitter plus the podcast version of the show is out on just about all the podcast providers via Anchor.FM. Taking time to share some thoughts on the second episode of the very interesting Lovecraft Country.  This is a discussion, not a review as there are plenty of reviews by very detail-oriented folks. We're still getting set up to provide the content we had planned.  Forgive us as we learn the ropes and, as always, join in on the conversation.  Our goal is to interact with fellow fans of Lovecraft's particular brand of horror.  We now have our Instagram and Twitter set up, so you can reach us there.  Plus we're putting these episodes out as a podcast as well, so you can try that out if that's your thing. With our plans for this channel continuously on standby due to Terry still being stuck in South Africa, we've decided to share some thoughts we had about the premiere of HBO's Lovecraft-inspired drama.  Take a listen to our thoughts and please share your own!  Our goal is to hopefully discuss this with many other fans of Lovecraft and/or the TV show.  Lovecraft Country Official Site - https://www.hbo.com/lovecraft-country  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/miskatonic-alumni/message
The first episode from the Miskatonic Alumni Association! Never read an H. P. Lovecraft story before?  Well, sit right back and let us opine on the stories we would recommend to new readers and why we chose them! Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Terry is stranded in South Africa and has been unable to return to his home in Shanghai where all of his equipment is.  So for the time being we are putting up some casual, conversational videos. NOTE: There is a big sound mishap in the last few minutes of the video where Bill's audio level gets cut in half.  We apologize for this as well as likely more errors as we get used to our recording and editing workflow. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/miskatonic-alumni/message
