Description
The Mixtape Project is made up of Pete and Yakka - two friends and musicians. On this podcast we share the music that shapes us, giving you a dose of that music-human connection we’re all searching for. Each week we create a collection of songs, unpack the music and discuss their impact on us.
14 Episodes

We set our own goal of 14 episodes for the first season, and with this one we have finally delivered. To celebrate, we give power to the machines... using a word generator to create 8 themes for each song selected in this mixtape. A very interesting song selection, we hope you enjoy!

What's in the box? Yakka picks the theme of "lunchbox" for this themed mixtape which sees a mixture of food related songs and music that doesn't contain any surprises - a feature that is sometimes just what you want in a piece of music.

A very interesting Infinity Mixtape episode. Dreamy pop and lo-fi hip hop tracks lead Yakka to describe some recurring dreams he has experienced and the music that featured in them. Psychoanalytical interpretations welcome! Send us your theories about the man planting the trees...

After being taken out by norovirus (emphasis on the noro...) over the last couple of weeks we are back with a themed episode appropriately centred around grit. What makes a song gritty? Can you say that a sound is gritty? What on earth are we talking about? All will be revealed in this episode as we navigate 10 minute R&B jams, narrowly miss a duplicate track, and consistently try to define and refine the word "grit." Enjoy.

A slightly cryptic themed mixtape this week which sees discussions on the power of music to impact our emotional state, why you should always guard your sunglasses and other life-saving advice. As always, the result is an eclectic mixtape.

Just like a good bath this episode runs a little longer than usual. Pete can't stop talking about the different types of "bathing experiences" and Yakka gets philosophical about the nature of sound. So get your bubbles, make sure your boiler still works, sit back, relax and soak in the sounds.

Our fourth instalment of the Infinity Mixtape - "the mixtape that never ends." The last song from the previous Infinity Mixtape episode serves as the inspiration for the first song in this one. We breeze through some classics, as well as some new songs, discover Pete can't drive whilst listening to Bruce Hornsby and Yakka geeks out on some guitarists... enjoy!

We can only assume that Yakka had a bad week when he came up with this theme. Chaotic sounds, dysfunctional bands and personality disorders all feature in this mixtape. Another eclectic mix of songs and stories.

Another week, another themed mixtape. Pete uncovered a memorial stone in his parents backyard inspiring a mixtape of songs related to memorials - some cracking songs in this one.

In this episode we introduce a slightly different format: a never-ending mixtape where each new song is inspired by the last one. We actually started this mixtape before recording the podcast properly so we wrote the first two episodes up on our website if you are interested to see how we got to the beginning of this mixtape.

FYI: This one contains lots of live versions that can only be found on YouTube but we put the recorded versions on the Spotify playlist.
Yakka chooses this week's theme of family.

Inspired by Yakka's story of discovering the Beatles' psychedelic era of recordings and thinking it was all a horrible mistake (see the first episode, "Hollywood Mixtape"), Pete selects the theme of mistakes.

This week's theme is "intros and outros", featuring songs that have interesting transitions and music sections or just sound like they could be used in the ending of a movie...

This week we create a mixtape of songs related to the theme of Hollywood. Pete has just moved back to the UK after living in California and hopes that this mixtape can bring some sunshine to a cold, soggy, Spring.
