The Noble Heretic Podcast

Small talk aside, how about we get into what really matters. My name is Phil and this is my podcast where I want you to join me in a conversation about truth. Going wherever the evidence may lead, even if it means we become heretics. If you want to support me please do so by e-transfer at philipn27@gmail.com

Goodbye for now

Taking a step back from this for a while. God bless.

Epsiode 64: Racism, Justice, and the Cure

Accidentally said "marriages" haha, I'm not a polygamist or even married. But you'll get the point, in any circumstance people ought to conduct themselves in a morally righteous way.  And for clarity's sake, the cure is: God must change our hearts by giving us new hearts (spiritually speaking). And this change must be consistent and lead us into God's ways as people who've surrendered to him and believe in the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:16-17).

Episode 63: Yes, You are Born that way

As a christian I can admit you were born a male and never once found females sexually attractive. I can believe and accept the reality that people experience life with certain inclinations. But the worldview we have when we look at these desires/inclinations is crucial to how we think about them.

Episode 62: New Laws or New Birth?

It's easy to point at people's failures to be righteous people, but where does all this evil come from? Lack of education? Poor cultural standards? Mental illness? Or is it something more central and closer to the core than that?

Episode 60: Christian Political Correctness

Yep it exists. We censor ourselves in order not to offend but when we look at how John the Baptist, Jesus, and the Apostles lived, do we see the same reluctance to say controversial things? Do we see them only being tough on the pharisees but not the common person (telling them to repent, etc)? For sake of truth, I think Mark 6:12 is coming right out of Jesus' own example in Matthew 4:17 where he preaches that people should repent. I think it is implied that Jesus told the disciples to preach repentance from sin just as Jesus himself did.

Episode 59: Coming out as Conservative

I think people genuinely an be closet conservatives. Like they actually might lose friends and create enemies if they be honest with what they really think politically. Come out of the closet guys and girls! You aren't alone.

Episode 58: Social Conservatives? You there?

I express my thoughts on what I think Canadian conservatism is pretty much today.  Neutered, self censoring, closet social conservatives, and needing to be bolder against the left on social issues. Or maybe they really should just come out as Liberals but a tiny bit more conservative?  What does "conservative" even mean these days in Canadian politics? Maybe Canadian conservatism is really just economic and nationalistic conservatism these days? What do you think? And when I was speaking on abortion I mean to say that if we fall for the abortion argument that goes, "well here's a bad situation so we need to allow abortion for all",  what ends up happening is people who will probably never even get into those situations will take advantage of this freedom and end up murdering many children in the womb. People may use the rarer, anomaly, instances to then pave the way for easy access abortion on demand for any reason. "My body my choice" right? Any restriction is labelled misogyny and the baby doesn't get a choice. Right.

Episode 57: "You're a Racist!"

Can we be better? I hope we can. In our political disagreements, in order to maintain a healthy democracy, we can't slap a label on someone to shut down a conversation.  Also I'm not sure if I swore in this episode, I don't think I did, but there was a moment where it sounds like I did. If so, apologies. And yeah, I'm pretty much half Ukrainian and half Philipino.  Am I half racist because I'm half white? Some might say yes, I'm male and straight too.

Episode 55: Dealing with Addiction

I'm not a professional, don't claim to be, but I share my thoughts. If you are new to the faith then I recommend some sources for you but I also highly recommend you find a solid community of believers in Jesus.  carm.org, gotquestions.org, Desiring God, The Gospel Coalition, Francis Chan, Apologia Radio/Studios.  If you are in Edmonton Alberta Canada I go to Heritage Valley Assembly, we do have a facebook page where you can reach out. https://www.facebook.com/heritagevalleyassembly/

Episode 54: Sin of Division

Is there ever a point where our mature sounding reasons for why we are leaving a church or refusing active unity with other christians who want to join in some activity (church planting, conference, etc) are really actually a cover up for a lack of patience, humility, perseverance, and an unwillingness to wash one another's feet? I believe this to be highly likely to happen where someone may make a list of reasons why a church is bad and leave it, but in reality his/her heart is allowing the flesh to take away a solid commitment to the messy body of Jesus.

Episode 53: Growing Disciples

So you want to make disciples and not just converts to christianity. Here's a question for you, what should a 22 year old person who just became a christian eventually look like after 3 years in the faith? How would you gauge healthy maturity? I give my thoughts on discipleship and go through an outline I recently made to help myself crystallize my understanding of what I would expect the discipleship process to be like. This is the Francis Chan sermon I referred to. Start at 32 minutes for nice context. Watch to 40 minutes. But really the whole thing is amazing.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPkAwItqmN8

"Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called" (Ephesians 4:1, NASB). Also I apologise if at some point(s) I speak too harshly, nevertheless I think what I say here is worth listening to and praying about.
