Hundreds of people died in these massacres, but we could not bother to even count them. It is irresponsible to ignore that the people who died were guilty only of being black, and this fact is being whitewashed.It is telling that out of sixteen names listed as “beneficiaries”, only four of them were confirmed to ever having been a slave. You would think that their “comprehensive and rigorous instruction on African American History” could at least come up with a better list. Anthony Johnson was used as an example of a slave that benefited, but in actuality he was never a slave he was an indentured servant.
