Tough dose of reality today for some WWE superstars as they were formally given their release because of the pandemic that's rampaging through the US and world. Notable names from the organization over the last decade included, which is hard to see as a fan but you understand given the current economic environment. WWE also announced furloughs for some of the staff. I go over this information on this episode of The OC Show and share my comments.
I finally sat down for an episode of AEW Dynamite over Easter weekend and wanted to share my thoughts on the show. Tony Schiovane, Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega called the action as we watched a crowd-less Dynamite in an outdoor venue. Despite it obviously not being a regular live show, it is interesting to see how AEW and the WWE are handling empty arena programming. With nothing better to do on Easter Sunday, I sat down and picked this episode of Dynamite because it was a crowd-less show as well as it was the confrontation of Le Champion Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy with his broken character in full force.
Some changes are coming to the OC Show. Stay tuned for those over the next few weeks. On this episode I discuss Cam Newton. Why is he still available? Who could actually use him? Would the Patriots be interested? His name is being floated around out there right now and for good reason as the former MVP wants to prove he still belongs in the NFL as a starting QB. I talk about his attributes and chances of signing with New England right here on The OC Show!
This episode was taped prior to the interview Howard Stern had with Tom Brady so I spent some time speculating on what would be said. I ended up doing a live stream on Youtube commenting about the interview which you can listen to here. The main topic of today's podcast is about the NFL Draft. Earlier this week I had heard a lot of people, pundits and talk show hosts alike, arguing for the NFL to postpone the draft a month or so. I think this is a terrible idea and make the point in this episode. Leave the draft alone!
I dipped in to WrestleMania 36 (Day One, mostly) to catch some of the action as they performed in the Orlando Performance Center in front of a non-existent crowd. It was more car crash curiosity than watching the storylines unfold. But, I was glad to do it, because I got to see my favorite match of the show and arguably one of the best ideas to come to wrestling in a long, long time- the Boneyard match. I know this was invented by Matt Hardy when he wrestled his brother at home in TNA (dilapitated boat), but this was my first time truly immersing myself in the story. AJ Styles and the Undertaker knocked this one out of the park. It was so freaking awesome. There were some other great matches in Day 1 and I talk about them. But I also have some complaints and I get into this pretty heavily on this condensed (as much as possible) episode of The OC Show!
This was a pay per view caliber lineup on live TV. Saturday Night's Main Event had become a big deal for the WWF in getting his product national mainstream exposure but it all paled in comparison to the very first show on Friday night, The Main Event. The build up was big, and the matchup was even bigger. It was Hulk Hogan versus Andre the Giant in the rematch of WrestleMania 3. 33 Million viewers tuned in to watch this show and they were not disappointed. Well, maybe in the outcome...This was a fun want to watch and fun to talk about. It's The OC Show!
In an effort to distract myself from the chaos in the world, I wanted to discuss the prospects of prospect Jarrett Stidham as the new Patriots QB1. It looks like he's the guy, or at least he's going to be given every opportunity to win the job. Is he the guy? Does he have anything physically that's different from Brady? We won't know until he's out there starting a few games and I think that's just what he's going to do for the 2020 season.A report also came out today that Tom Brady sold himself to the Bucs versus the Bucs selling the team to Tom Brady. Kind of strange but also telling. If that's not an indication that Brady was hell bent on leaving New England, I don't know what is. It's Episode 29 of The OC Show!
Come with me as I remember the glory days of pro wrestling and discuss one of my low key favorite belts from the era- the WCW World Television Championship. Learn a little about the belt, how I wished it was booked and how it could be used even today to help newcomers onto the scene. This show definitely went past the 30 minute time limit but that's okay because I make my own rules! It's falls count anywhere, no-dq, no countout this episode of The OC Show.https://twitter.com/jayyohhsee
We're in the midst of WrestleMania season so it's only fitting I start talking about some of my favorite WrestleMania memories. I was browsing the WWE network looking for something to discuss and I landed on WrestleMania X8, from March 17, 2002. It was the Icon vs Icon match. Hogan had just arrived back to WWE after WCW had been acquired and right away he set his sights on The Rock. After a good building the match was set for WrestleMania and boy did it live up to the billing. It should've been the main event, but nevertheless, the crowd, the story told in the match, and the setting was the recipe we needed for an instant classic. I have rewatched this match several times and could watch it several times more. I discuss it with you here on The OC Show!
Digesting the events happening around the world has been difficult to say the least but I hope everyone is staying safe out there and making good choices with their health and considering the health of those around them. With that said, I've had some time to digest the news of Tom Brady departing for (seemingly) the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While there is hardly a chance Brady pulls a Josh McDaniels, they still haven't announced anything officially yet. My guess is it comes tomorrow or Monday.Nevertheless, Bill Belichick is really on my mind because now he has to show the world, Patriots fans the most, that the heaps of praise and all the "In Bill I Trust" and "Do Your Job" BS that we've been spewing for years is justified. Now he has, and I think he wanted, to show everyone that he can coach a championship team without Tom Brady. If I were Robert Kraft, I'd tell Bill he has two years. That won't happen, but the 2020 season is set up for disaster unless Bill pulls out some miracles. I discuss this all as we prepare for something eyeballs 19 years old and under have not seen- the Patriots starting a season with out #12. It's The OC Show.
Through all the difficulties the world is facing, a nice break from the stress has been the NFL Free Agency period. I'm glad the NFL didn't postpone this because we certainly could use a distraction. And so far, the shock and excitement has delivered.Unfortunately for Patriots fans, the news of Tom Brady leaving the team he captained for the last two decades was not so great, but pretty expected. I talk about the news and how things really went down to lead Tom to his decision last night/today. It's The OC Show and the Patriots dynasty is officially over...Time for a new dynasty to start.
Today was a tough news day for America as we were dealt another blow to the economy (close the markets, already). This all happened as major sporting event after major sporting event was either postponed or canceled. As of right now, there are zero professional team sports being played in the United States. Think about that...I discuss all the events that have transpired so far and link the news to possible conspiracies. Doesn't hurt to be skeptical. Hoping you have plenty of toilet paper for the next few weeks, this is The OC Show!
On Tuesday's episode of The OC Show I talk about the impending release of Call of Duty: Warzone. Scheduled to be released today, Tuesday March 10th, I go over all the news and information I can about the game before it's available to download. I have been a faithful PUBG player for a long time but finally got tired of it after Modern Warfare was released. To see a new BR coming available using the same sweet, fluid graphics and controls of Modern Warfare, I am more than excited! Big notes from this release: Plunder mode, the Gulag, and Killstreaks IN GAME. Oh yeah, also FREE to players who don't have Modern Warfare already. Oh yeah, 150 PLAYERS PER GAME!! WHAT??? Learn about it all right here on The OC Show!
Ken joins me on this podcast as we discuss the timeline of events that led to Bret Hart leaving the WWF for WCW. Vince, desperate to keep his big star in the fold, offers the Hitman a contract worth ten and a half million dollars over 20 years. Bret stays with the company but not for long as Vince realizes he cannot afford to have guys on his roster making that much during those lean years. That's when all hell breaks loose. We talk about it here on The OC Show.Check me out on YouTube @ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN6F-yPjDW3iUvyQPDN2JFA/I'm also on Twitter @NotFakeOCShow
So I'm trying out this new schedule thing where I do a couple shows a week, just to stay consistent. I thought about a few topics to discuss but realized I didn't have one thing to spend the whole show on. I know, I'm totally overselling this podcast, but I did find some great topics to discuss for you. Steve Woz thinks he's patient zero for the coronavirus here in the US. Knicks Fans need to just be patient. Chris Sale is, surprise, injured. And some other stuff I can't reveal to you in this description. CLICK NOW TO BE WHOLLY ENTERTAINED!
Ken jumps in on this episode of The OC Show to talk about Raw is War from all the way back in 1997, December 8th. It was the Raw after In Your House D-Generation X and Stone Cold was coming into his own as the next big superstar of the WWF. Ken and I run down most of the matches and segments and give our take on it. It was a lean time for the WWF but hope was on the horizon with the Texas Rattlesnake on the verge of becoming the biggest start in pro wrestling. If you want to go down memory lane together on The OC Show, gimme a hell yeah!
Doug joins me on this episode of The OC Show as we talk a bit about the new rumored Battle Royale mode for Call of Duty coming out. I personally can't wait because over the last two years I've lived in PUBG so if Call of Duty can nail it with this rumored mode I will be in heaven! It'll be good if true because with all the latest news on the Coronavirus scare from China, I likely won't want to go out in public. Doug and I get into the hysteria and discuss its origins and whether this was a natural occurrence or a plot by a foreign regime. Doug briefly loses connection at the end of the show prompting speculation that the regime got to him! A fun, but scary episode of The OC Show!
Growing up I always wanted to be on the radio. It's something I've had in the back of my mind most of my life. I had the opportunity to spend some time on the air at a local station in New Hampshire and loved it. Life decisions pushed me away from the business, but I've been a pretty faithful radio listener regardless. Well, this week it was announced that WAAF, the last real rock station in Boston (I don't count classic rock), was sold to a Christian radio company for 10 million dollars. Their last broadcast on the famous 107.3 frequency was Friday night, February 21st. Doug and I decided to jump on and record this podcast just talking about it and the state of rock radio. It doesn't look like rock radio will survive much longer, but maybe there will be a day it comes back stronger than ever!
Departing from the norm of our conversations, I decided to bring Doug on and dive into some killer conspiracy talk. It's not something I invest a lot of time into but it's so fascinating and something Doug and I can chat about forever if we wanted to. Today we hit two of the most famous "conspiracies," the JFK assassination and the existence of aliens. You may feel dumber after listening to us try to get our points across but damnit, it was fun! It's The OC Show, Episode 17!
I dipped in to some more XFL act-io-nay this weekend and discussed it a little bit. Cardale Jones is the GOAT right now, and thus should be heavily promoted. Also, does Kevin Garnett deserve to have his number hanging in the rafters at the TD Garden? Another episode of The OC Show is in the books! Thanks for listening!
