Description

Hello and welcome to the PIVOT Leadership podcast! We’re here to explore the intricacies of leadership, explore the science behind it, and hopefully learn a few things along the way.

I developed the PIVOT framework to help change work environments for the better. PIVOT uses neurological science to help leaders understand their colleagues and analyse their own feelings and responses. All in all, we aim to enhance mental well-being, improve performance, and benefit everyone involved.

So, what does PIVOT mean?

To PIVOT, you need:

Perseverance, Inclusion, Value, Optimisation, and Trust.

With my guests, we'll unpick these principles and discuss how each one is vital in building strong leaders.

In this episode, we're focusing on inclusion. Every leader should aim to create an environment of involvement, respect, and connection. It is important to examine leaders’ ability to demonstrate inclusive leadership and how well they create communities rather than cultures. Today’s guest is Hayley Selway; a leader who is passionate about creating an inclusive workforce. In December 2023, she became the Chief Executive of Two Rivers Housing. Prior to this, she was working at Cardiff Community Housing Association where she built a values-driven, top performing housing association with customers at its heart. She has a wealth of experience under her belt in creating an inclusive team and running initiatives to ensure everyone feels welcome. I’ll be talking to Hayley about when she first saw a need for enforcing a more inclusive workforce and what she has done during her roles to make this happen. We’ll also be chatting about some of the fantastic initiatives she has started throughout her professional career and how they are helping people within her community. In this episode, we're focusing on perseverance. A leader who perseveres is ready for the long haul and is able to propel their teams towards purpose. To join me in discussing perseverance is wilderness guide and survivalist, Megan Hine. Megan has produced some of the biggest adventure and survival shows on TV, treading the line between extreme survival and entertainment for audiences of millions. She’s shaped Emmy award winning content and led talent and film crews in the world’s toughest environments for 20 years. As expedition leader, Megan organises and leads adventures to remote wilderness locations. Keeping herself and her crew alive means learning to respect and understand intimately the terrain she’s operating in. But survival in the hardest conditions likewise demands that people understand their own mental landscape, finding the will to cross frontiers within themselves. I’ll be talking to Megan about the lessons she’s learnt through her work in the wilderness, how perseverance is key when she’s leading her team, and how you can transfer some of her knowledge into your own leadership style.
