Back in 2013, Robin wrote a Listverse article profiling ten heartbreaking cases of unidentified people found under mysterious circumstances—Jane and John Does whose names seemed lost forever. At the time, they were buried under placeholder names like “Little Miss Panasoffkee,” “Lyle Stevik,” and “Beth Doe,” with investigators following dead-end leads and families never knowing what happened to their loved ones. But here’s the incredible part: they’re not mysteries anymore. Thanks to groundbreaking advances in DNA technology, forensic genealogy, and tireless cold case investigators, several of these forgotten souls have finally gotten their names back. Over this three-episode series, we’ll revisit each case from Robin’s original article, share the haunting details that captivated true crime followers for decades, and reveal the remarkable breakthroughs that solved them. You’ll hear about Little Miss Panasoffkee, identified in October 2025 after 54 years through cutting-edge fingerprint technology; Lyle Stevik, whose identity was uncovered by genetic genealogy but remains protected by his family’s wishes; Beth Doe, the brutally murdered pregnant teen who turned out to be 15-year-old Evelyn Colon; Baby Hope, identified as 4-year-old Anjelica Castillo after an anonymous tip; and the Grateful Dead fan finally named as Jason Callahan after Reddit sleuths and DNA testing brought him home. We’ll also cover El Dorado Jane Doe (now known as “Kelly”), Caledonia Jane Doe (Tammy Jo Alexander), and explore which cases still remain unsolved, waiting for that one crucial breakthrough. Each episode will take you through the original mystery, the painstaking investigation, and the emotional moment when these unidentified people finally got their dignity—and their names—back.Support the Show: Patreon.com/julesandashleyPatreon.com/thetrailwentcold

(Part 2) Today on the Path Went Chilly Robin and Jules will be covering the unsolved case of a bomber who used a homemade "zip gun" device in their attacks in the early 1980s and 1990s: the name 'bomber' is a bit of a misnomer, since there is technically no bomb but more likely a product of the time period. Here is a Google AI summary of the cases covered: First Incident (1982): A package containing an explosive device was mailed to Joan Kipp in North Castle, New York. She opened the package, which was disguised as a cookbook, and was killed. The device contained a homemade firearm, or "zip gun", triggered by opening the package.Subsequent Incidents (1993): Eleven years later, the bomber struck again, sending more mail bombs to different individuals. One target, Anthony Lenza, was away on vacation, but the bomb shot and injured his children when they opened the package. Another bomb seriously injured Alice Caswell, who opened a package addressed to her brother, Richard McGarrel.Victims/Targets: The five intended victims were Joan Kipp (who died), Anthony Lenza, Richard McGarrel, a "Gilmore or Resident," and Richard Basile's wife. A potential link was that all targets might have been former government workers. Support the show: Patreon.com/julesandashleyPatreon.com/thetrailwentcold

December 13, 2009. Henderson, Nevada. A security camera captures 30-year old Steven Koecher arriving in a residential neighbourhood, where he parks his car and is seen walking down the sidewalk before he vanishes without a trace. Earlier that day, Steven had made a 135-mile trip to Henderson from his residence in St. George, Utah, but never told anyone why, and in the days prior to his disappearance, Steven also made multiple unexplained road trips through Utah and Nevada. Since Steven was struggling financially, it is theorized that he might have travelled to Henderson in order to seek employment or make a delivery to earn some money, but there is no conclusive evidence of what happened to him. Did Steven Koecher disappear voluntarily or end his own life somewhere or did he become the victim of foul play? April 3, 2004. La Cygne, Kansas. 23-year old Alonzo Brooks vanishes while attending a party at a farmhouse and his body is discovered on the banks of a nearby creek nearly one month later. While a forensic pathologist is unable to determine Alonzo’s exact cause of death, rumours start circulating that he was the victim of a hate crime before his body was placed at that location. In 2021, after Alonzo’s body is exhumed and given a new autopsy, it is announced that his death has officially been reclassified as a homicide. Who was responsible for killing Alonzo Brooks and what was the motive for his murder? If his death wasn’t a hate crime, what did actually happen to him? July 16, 1952. Salisbury, Connecticut. While spending the summer at Camp Sloane, ten-year old Connie Smith skips breakfast and leaves the campground. Numerous witnesses see Connie walking down the road and attempting to hitchhike, but before she reaches the nearest town, she vanishes without a trace. Since Connie’s grandfather is the former Governor of Wyoming, there is a massive search effort and her case receives extensive publicity. Over the years, there are a number of unusual leads, including an anonymous letter stating that Connie might be an unidentified murder victim named “Little Miss X”, whose skeletal remains were found in Arizona in 1958. Did Connie Smith become an unidentified Jane Doe? If not, what actually happened to her? And what compelled her to walk away from Camp Sloane to begin with? February 26, 1980. Berkeley, California. 51-year old Al Mills, his 40-year old wife, Jeannie, and Jeannie’s 16-year old daughter, Daphene, are all shot to death, execution-style, in their home. Jeannie’s 17-year old son, Eddie, is left unharmed inside his bedroom, but claims he did not hear the murders take place. Years earlier, the Mills family had defected from the Reverend Jim Jones’ infamous cult, the Peoples Temple, and become outspoken advocates against them. Following the Jonestown Massacre, rumours circulated that surviving members of the cult were going to target the family as revenge. However, investigators suspect that Eddie was the actual perpetrator and make an unsuccessful attempt to charge him with the crime 25 years later. Did Eddie Mills murder his own family, or were they victims of an assassination by outside intruders? This week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly” explores an unsolved triple homicide and its potential connection to the Jonestown saga.Additional Reading:Support the show: Patreon.com/julesandashleyPatreon.com/thetrailwentcoldhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeannie_Millshttps://people.com/archive/the-mills-family-murders-could-it-be-jim-jones-last-revenge-vol-13-no-11/https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/BERKELEY-Man-jailed-in-family-slayings-from-25-2557794.phphttps://www.eastbaytimes.com/2005/12/09/son-wont-be-charged-in-1980-slayings/https://archives.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2015/11/12/yesterdays-crimes-peoples-temple-hit-squads-and-jonestowns-last-victimshttps://www.sfweekly.com/news/yesterdays-crimes-jonestown-was-just-the-beginning-for-one-peoples-temple-family/https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/articles/199203/the-truth-about-jonestown

June 23, 1996. Boston, Massachusetts. The dismembered upper body of 20-year old Karina Holmer is found inside a plastic trash bag in a dumpster. She was strangled to death before being sliced directly in half and the lower portion of her body is never recovered. Karina hails from Sweden and has spent the past three months working as an au pair for a married couple and she was last seen partying at a nightclub nearly 36 hours before she was found. Even though the investigation looks at a number of potential suspects, there is no evidence to implicate anyone. On this week’s episode of “The Path Went Chilly”, we explore a brutal unsolved crime which has often been described as Boston’s version of the Black Dahlia murder. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Boston Police Department Unsolved Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470 or the CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS (8477).Support the show: Patreon.com/julesandashleyPatreon.com/thetrailwentcoldAdditional Reading:https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/06/22/metro/who-killed-karina-holmer-twenty-five-years-later-swedish-nannys-grisly-murder-remains-unsolved/https://www.bostonherald.com/2022/03/30/from-the-archive-body-identified-as-swedish-nanny-karina-holmer/https://www.masslive.com/boston/2021/06/karina-holmer-cold-case-boston-police-seek-new-leads-in-brutal-1996-murder-of-20-year-old-swedish-au-pair.htmlhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/441014499/https://www.newspapers.com/image/546676252/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441015411/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441016075/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441016594/https://www.newspapers.com/image/440995729/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441018223/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441071148/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441516425/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441527386/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441855310/https://www.newspapers.com/image/441089022/

Ugh whyyyy is there so much banter & giggling?? Why is it so hard to find podcasts that just say what’s going on, with hosts/cohosts sharing insights that are ACTUALLY RELATED TO THE CASE? Are people really this uninteresting, that they don’t have any thoughts on the actual case? It’s so frustrating. Stop making the same terrible podcast over and over. Or if you do, make it good at least.

I was very disappointed with this. Laughing inappropriately. I felt like he, in his situation was treated very lightly and with disrespect. Robin, I think you should have stayed on you own. you had to keep bring your co-hosts, back on track. This episode was way too long, filled with nonsense. Your "expert" did not speak to much, on layman's terms. I will try one more, but I suspect that this one is not for me.

His note was a speech....but to whom?

could the guns be hidden thruout the store? was there any tattooing on his abdomen to suggest close range shooting?
