Description

Join me for a weekly dose of sports, news, pop culture or whatever else is rattling around in my brain. From big headlines to locker room drama, viral moments to personal rants - nothing’s off limits. Whether it’s the latest trade, a headline that made me shake my head, or just what’s going on in my life this week, I’m talking about it all. Unfiltered, (hopefully) funny, sometimes deep, always real. New episodes every week, pull up a seat.

While we’re on a short break from full episodes, This Day, That Year is back and this week we rewind to December 17, 1903. In just twelve seconds over the dunes of North Carolina, two bicycle mechanics quietly launched the modern world. We walk through the Wright brothers’ first powered flight, why almost nobody cared at the time, and how that brief moment reshaped warfare, travel, globalization, and even the path to space. A reminder that history doesn’t always announce itself when it arrives.
This week we’re going back in on the Lions win, but we somehow lost in many ways. Then we talk about the bizarre World Cup 2026 Draw and the dilution of competition going forward for, you guessed it, money. Then we go into politics and talk about the presidential discourse with the Somali population. We then visit This Day, That Year and talk about the inception of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We talk about my car troubles and places I want to be a regular at — which brings us to our Top 5 (Dead or Alive) where we talk places we definitely do not want to be a regular at. Sorry Disney Adults, you’re on the list.
In today’s episode, we break down a chaotic week in news and culture. Lane Kiffin shocks the SEC world by ditching Ole Miss for LSU right before the CFB playoffs, the DOT wants you to stop wearing pajamas in airports, and D.C. reels from a targeted National Guard shooting near the White House. We also dive into the escalating fallout over the alleged Hegseth Caribbean strike. On This Day, That Year we look back at three major December 3rd moments in history. We then wrap with The Me Corner with Crumbl’s cake cookie controversy (self described), Lions heartbreak, Michigan misery and the Top 5 Dead or Alive: Non-Cookie Pastries.
Today’s episode kicks off with General News and an NFL breakdown with Juju as we decide which teams are Yolked, Jokes, or just Broke. In the Not A Political Segment, we unpack Zohran Mamdani’s awkward visit with Trump and MTG stepping down. Then on This Day, That Year we look back through the birth of the NHL, the Mumbai attacks, and the premiere of Casablanca. I also question whether musicals are for me and get hyped for Thanksgiving tomorrow. We close with Juju back on giving our Top 5 (Dead or Alive) Thanksgiving hot takes... and yes, boxed stuffing is better than homemade.
This week we talk about the ups and downs of Lions fandom and the greedy NFL, then dive into a massive archaeological breakthrough that rewrites what we thought we knew about ancient seafaring. We then get not-political (because it’s Not A Political Podcast right?) and talk Epstein, Trump, Bubba and Marjorie Taylor Greene exile? from the party. We then revisit huge moments in history for This Day, That Year and finally we check in on the Me Corner dealing with my back injury and fasting cravings, and finish with the official Top 5 Dead or Alive fast food list with my guy, Rodney!
In this episode we have Franklin joining us! We reflect on the tragic passing of Marshawn Kneeland and open a real conversation about suicide prevention and mental health. Then, we dive into the ongoing government shutdown — the deciding 8 votes, the politics, and the reality check on healthcare and taxes. For This Day That Year, we revisit October 12, 2019, when Eliud Kipchoge shattered human limits by running a marathon in under two hours. And in Me Corner, a study session gone sideways leads to a run-in with a self-proclaimed billionaire at Starbucks, plus a few thoughts on paranoia and the wild things our ancestors would never believe about today’s world.
This week we’re talking the Detroit Lions’ latest letdown, a class-action lawsuit that’s got Spotify annoyed (and Drake’s name caught in the middle), and why the streaming game might be faker than ever. Plus on This Day, That Year we take a trip down Back to the Future Day, Saddam Hussein’s 2006 verdict. And can’t forget to get into the Halloween hangovers and the NYC Marathon scene. I wrap it up with my “Top 5 Races I Want to Do” and a quick rant on how influencers have officially ruined running.
Arrests at the Louvre, a massive NBA betting scandal, and the tragic passing of Nick Mangold headline a packed episode of The Pavement Perspective. We also get into the ongoing Government shutdown stalemate and a surprising US–Canada trade flare-up before jumping back to October 29, 1929’s Black Tuesday history, some personal wedding vibes, and our Top 5 Dead or Alive tracks to light up any wedding dance floor with Danielle! This episode was re-uploaded because of the song at the end of the original episode.

On this episode of The Pavement Perspective, we look back at Lance Armstrong’s epic fall from glory, break down the massive “No Kings” protests shaking U.S. politics, and unpack the Louvre jewel heist that feels straight out of a movie. Plus, a few personal highlights: birthdays, weddings, and oyster regrets. All this before wrapping up with our Top 5 Dead or Alive: Things That Can Ruin a Vacation.
This week, we’re diving into one of the most infamous moments in baseball history: the 2003 Steve Bartman Incident that crushed Cubs fans’ hearts and fueled the “Curse of the Billy Goat” for over a decade. Then, we shift gears with a look at what could be a historic Middle East breakthrough: Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, with big implications for regional stability. Plus, a quick recap of the 2025 Chicago Marathon (shoutout to Oscar for finishing strong 🏃‍♂️💪), the mind-bending “Gates of Hell” black hole discovery, and our Top 5 Dead or Alive conspiracy theories. From moon landing truthers to reptilian overlords. Yes, you read that right.
In this week’s episode, we open with “This Day, That Year” exploring what made this October 8th stand out in history. We dive into the government shutdown and why healthcare funding is once again at the center of the fight. Then we unpack the uproar over Bad Bunny headlining the Super Bowl and the hypocrisy of it all. We also pay tribute to Jane Goodall, reflect on her lifelong impact on conservation and science, and give some brutally honest thoughts on Taylor Swift’s new album. In the Me Segment, we talk Uber cologne, travel reflections, and confusion over the “Essentials” brand before wrapping up with our Top 5 essentials to do while traveling with Aurel!
This week on This Day, That Year: Henry Ford changes the world with the Model T, Eric Adams drops out of the NYC mayoral race, and college football fans lose their minds storming fields after wild upsets. Plus, Jimmy Kimmel’s back, Disney folds under pressure, and in then we talk running vests, smut books, and the Top 5 Lies We Tell Ourselves — starting with “my diet starts next week” and Cozy 19 aka Brent telling us he has what it takes to be a Quarterback in the NFL.
This week on This Day, That Year, we jump to September 24, 1991, arguably the greatest album drop in history. Nirvana’s Nevermind and Tribe’s The Low End Theory, hit the same day, reshaping music forever. We also dive into the new $100K H-1B visa fee, Jimmy Kimmel’s censorship drama, global recognition of Palestine, plus some personal wedding and dancing stories. And to close it out: the Top 5 People You’d Want to Sit With—featuring Franklin and why Van Gogh lost his ear.
This week, Spin the Wheel is back and it lands on September 15, 2008, the day Lehman Brothers collapsed and the global financial system nearly went with it. We’ll dig into the biggest bankruptcy in U.S. history, how it triggered the Great Recession, and why it’s still a scary reminder of where we stand in the world today. And yes, we briefly talk about what has happened over the last week and how it’s a scary time. Then, it’s time for some lighter fare: the Lions’ latest showdown, a recap of the 2025 Emmys (spoiler: The Studio made history, The Pitt pulled a shocker, and a 15-year-old is now an Emmy winner), and a quick dive into personal life. From Maine weddings, hiking misadventures, and why my foot still hasn’t forgiven me but I hope my girlfriend has. Finally, we close with the Top 5 People You’d Hate to Get Stuck on a Hike With. Spoiler: Ben Franklin somehow takes the crown, and yes, James Corden made the list (again).
This week I break down my failed 100-mile ride and spin the wheel for another round of “This Time, That Year.” The NFL is back, the Lions are not looking great, and Juju makes his return with a brand-new segment. We also talk Kawhi’s salary controversy, while in the “Not a Political Segment,” we dig into some heavy topics: the Smithsonian scrubbing slavery’s painful history, PBS downplaying the past, the Department of Defense’s makeover to “War,” ICE and racial profiling rulings, and RFK’s wild CDC changes. To lighten things up, I take your calls for the Top 5 Non-Car Forms of Transportation (planes, trains, horses—you name it), and close out with a breakdown of Netflix’s Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.
After a month-long break, I’m back—and yes, I’ve been biking a lot. In this episode, we dive into the headlines, from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s over-the-top engagement ring to why engagement rings in general are a scam. I also touch on the latest gerrymandering mess in Texas and California (spoiler: nobody’s actually “treading on you”), break down the Gen Z stare and their un-ironic ‘90s throwbacks, and wrap it all up with my “Top 5 Dead or Alive” list of ‘90s trends—from cereal box literature to Kid Cuisine.

We’re rewinding to February 1990... a month of HUGE shifts, shocking upsets, and unforgettable cultural moments. From Buster Douglas’ jaw-dropping knockout of Mike Tyson, to Nelson Mandela walking free after 27 years in prison, history was being rewritten in real time. We’ll revisit the U.S. airline smoking ban, look up at the Voyager 1 “Pale Blue Dot” that changed how we see our planet, and step into the 32nd Grammy Awards where music, controversy, and Milli Vanilli ruled the stage (the duo, not the person?).

What if your whole life was just a dream you’ll wake up from at age 7? Or if you’ve already died—and just don’t know it yet? This episode dives into the deep end of “what if” questions about memory, identity, mortality, and the meaning we create (or miss) along the way. It’s reflective, a little haunting, and just the right amount of existential. Let’s dive in.
