Why any discussion on whether gay or not? To what end does this help, especially on absolutely no evidence. Superfluous and unnecessary.

Spend the whole episode on a speculation of rape with no evidence of the act because racism and bad Europeans. 🙄

I wasn't that into pirates necessarily, but I love history podcasts, listen to them all, and this one is integral to the collection. Who knew? Luckily, Matt did, and so do the people from whom he draws his excellent references to weave into engaging stories. Turns out in order to understand world history as a whole, you absolutely need to know the history of pirates. Matt is a scholarly and careful storyteller and his voice is dead easy to listen to for hours. Listen to this show.
