There are three words to describe the sense of learning to live in positivity about circumstances: grateful, thankful and appreciative. To me, these words mean exactly the same thing.
They are three ways to say I am learning to see the good in even the most difficult situations. Living in appreciation is a skill that mature people have learned through trial and error. It is not simple...at all, but so important because life isn't getting any easier. My name is Monica Mouer, and I am a licensed therapist and supervisor as well as the director of the Center for Transformation. We exist to resource therapists with skills for personal growth that leads to professional outcomes. We have discovered that the implementation of the Life Model in our lives as therapists has led to more fulfillment in our personal life and relationship and amazing insight and growth in the lives of our clients as we model and teach these practices to them.
This episode details the an understanding of how to live in appreciation. The world is a scary place, and as therapists, we are faced with some of the worst stories day in and day out. And we can't just fake appreciation. We have to go where we need to go, to process our own pain and disillusionment so we can come out the other side with a positive perspective that is based on wisdom and maturity. Let's go!

What does it mean to be joyful? Being joyful isn't just being happy. Being joyful is about enjoying relationship with God and others and allowing these connections to fill us up rather than finding pseudo joys to fill us. As therapists, there are many things coming at us trying to deplete our joy. We have competing focuses and oftentimes overwhelming circumstances that quickly leave us feeling depleted and lacking in joy and peace.

Depression is no joke! As therapists, we are just as susceptible to this experience of prolonged sadness as anyone else. Depression is an inability to return to joy from sadness. Sadness is an experience of loss. When we have lost something or someone in our life and cannot return to a joyful state, we have the potential to get stuck in depression.

A Hungry Therapist has an appetite for growth.
The opposite of hungry is complacency. When we lack motivation from growth as therapists, we stay stagnant and this not only impacts us, it impacts our clients. This episode breaks down the three things that characterize a motivated therapist.
Listen in to check on yourself. Are you hungry enough to become better than just good enough? Are you hungry enough to find a joyful and peace filled life for yourself? Are you hungry enough to become a professional that sees your clients truly change? The world need hungry therapists! The world needs YOU!

Have you listened to the podcast, THE RISE & FALL OF MARS HILL yet?
This podcast is written and produced by Christianity Today and is amazing! I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode. In this episode, I discuss my experience with listening to this podcast series and how I interpret it as a mental health therapist. This episode involves the way that I interpret THE RISE & FALL OF MARS HILL through the lens of the Life Model.
The subject of narcissism in leadership is the main topic in the podcast and the Life Model has a LOT to say about that (especially in the book, Pandora Problem by Dr. Jim Wilder). Its important to note that its not the narcissist themselves that is the main problem, but the people around the problem. What this means is that all of us need to get more skilled at being loving and confronting issues at the same times. Listen in to learn more! Also, you can check out our website at www.cftinstitute.com or join us on our podcast The Place for Therapists to Grow on both Spotify and Apple. As a veteran mental health therapist, I have tracked with the resources offered by both Dr Caroline Leaf and Dr Jim Wilder. Both of these amazing professionals offer Christian therapists information about how to connect our relationship with God with our understanding of our neurological wiring as humans. In my opinion, the basic breakdown between Dr Leaf of the Neurocycle Institute and Dr Wilder of Life Model Works is that one is more technical in nature and the other is more relational. This episode discusses Dr Wilder's Life Model (neurotheology) and Dr Leafs (Neurocycle Institute) as both are skills based training programs for rewiring your brain. Both of these programs involve the latest neuroscience research and combining it with our connection to God. For me personally, I have found my home with the Life Model. I find that the depths of insight and strategy for self growth, relational growth and spiritual growth are unprecedented. There is a sense that the Life Model is the gift that keeps on giving. The information continues to unpack itself as it is learned and practiced. The pay off of the Life Model practice is amazing as joy, peace and love is increased more and more over time.
