Between 1911 and 1915, at least 20 young African-American women were murdered in the city of Atlanta by a serial killer that is still unknown. The way in which these women were murdered mirrors the style of London’s Jack the Ripper. Their throats were slashed, and nearly all had suffered debilitating head wounds caused by a blunt object. Local newspapers eventually dubbed the killer the Atlanta Ripper. To this day, no one has been convicted for the murders, which are widely believed to be the work of Atlanta’s first serial killer.
