It's a special episode from our Patreon files - as Nick has been unwell at the time of normal recording, we have decided to release a Patreon episode for free to keep you full of joy. This episode was originally recorded in Sept 2020, and is possibly the most famous mass poisoning case in living memory: the massacre of the Peoples Temple followers at Jonestown. Sinead tells the tale of Jim Jones' infamous church / cult, and how a once happy plan to bring social equality to the world ended with nearly 1,000 people lying dead in the Guyanese jungle. It’s absurd to even question whether or not, they were a cult. They became a cult in every sense of the world, and to say otherwise is just naive.

This is one of my favorite true crime stories because it's just so WACKY. I always forget some of the ways they tried to kill Mike--this time I was surprised all over again by the sandwich of rotten sardines, carpet tacks, and shredded sardine tin. His body should have been studied to help create super soldiers or something!

I reckon hemlock will be in the mix too being known since ancient times. Indeed, Socrates was offered exile or death by hemlock, he chose hemlock. A simple mixture of hemlock, monkshood and digitalis will see off all-comers. Many other plants are poisonous. Its not actually that hard if you know your plants and fungi. (Destroying Angel, Death Cap) There is cyanide in laurel leaves and yew berries, and the strongest being ricin, from caster oil plants and I think maybe flax. The world's most famous nerve poison. On a par with novochok 5 and VX anyway. Chemical nerve agents. Will you be doing the Tokyo tube attack? Great show.
