Yes, all hospitals should be "baby friendly" however a Baby Friendly Hospital has been awarded that designation because they have been deemed a "maternity facility that has successfully implemented the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, which include providing appropriate education to enable families to make informed decisions about infant feeding, encouraging mothers to hold their babies skin-to-skin immediately following birth, and offering expert lactation support throughout and beyond the hospital stay" (Baby Friendly USA babyfriendlyusa.org). It's actually not super easy to achieve the designation. The website days 1/6 hospitals have received the Baby Friendly designation. I am an OB/Gyn nurse so your discussion about this made me laugh ... who am I kidding?! the entire thing had me laughing while I walked around the soccer field dyring my kids practice. Pretty sure the other moms may think I am a little crazy. 😄
