We are facing the greatest global pandemic of all time. Burnout, anxiety, stress is at an all time high. People are the greatest asset of an organisation. The better people look after themselves, the better they perform in all areas of life - both at work and home. Every single tiny choice we make during the day is shaping our lives, directly impacting how we feel and experience life. After getting the biggest wake up call of losing everything in my life in 2016 I had no choice but to face my habits and make a change. The changes at first seemed so insignificant that I didn't believe they would make a difference. BUT they did. The Positive Habits Podcast is for people who want to live a better life, with higher energy levels, less stress, better relationships and ultimately to supercharge their performance in all areas of life. I'm on a mission to help people improve their wellbeing with one small habit change.

Kat speaks with serial entrepreneur, public speaker, mentor and podcaster Stephanie Melodia. In this candid discussion, they discuss the mounting pressures business owners face, especially those in the UK, and how to tackle them. Including when to commit, when to pivot, and when to gracefully quit rather than simply delaying the inevitable. Stephanie shares the critical decision-making strategies used by top founders to eliminate anxiety and indecisiveness, iterate and stay ahead of the curve. Alongside the other positive habits that are behind most people´s success. KEY TAKEAWAYS Resilience and adaptability are essential qualities for entrepreneurs. They don´t just keep you going through tough times, they also help you to know when to persevere and when it’s time to embrace change. The decision to pivot, scale back, or even close a business is not a failure; it can be a strategic and courageous act that opens the door to new opportunities and personal growth. Positive habits, e.g. Daily movement, prioritising sleep, and practicing gratitude are the foundation for building and maintaining energy, clarity, and well-being. These positive habits empower you to meet your toughest challenges. Stop viewing saying no as a negative thing to do. Remember, when you say no, you are creating space to say yes to one of any number of other opportunities. Learn to make decisions quickly and move on. Dithering about all of those small things just zaps your energy. Trust yourself. BEST MOMENTS "I am allergic to inertia. I need movement. I need speed. I need scale. I need to feel like things are moving." "We keep emphasising the importance of pivots, of iterating." "You need the resilience, and you need to keep going, but you need to know the difference between, are you flogging a dead horse, or is there something here?" ABOUT THE GUEST Stephanie is a former marketing consultancy CEO turned founder coach, growth strategist, MBA advisor, and host of the UK's Top 20 Business Show. She is ranked as one of the UK's Most Influential Female Founders. With expertise in entrepreneurship and a passion for feminism, Stephanie now hosts the UK Top 20 Business Show; advises MBA students in Entrepreneurship, and; continues to serve as VC scout for an early-stage venture capital firm. Trusted by global brands like Soho House, WeTransfer, Harvey Nash Group, and international conferences like Web Summit, TechBBQ, and Women in Tech, Stephanie brings a special kind of energy to her bold keynotes and dynamic workshops. https://www.instagram.com/stephmelodia/ Stephanie's podcast with Kat ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting, working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Today, Kat speaks with Nathan, a chemistry teacher from York, about his inspiring journey from unhealthy habits and self-doubt to running marathons and transforming his life through the power of routine. Nathan shares how small, consistent changes in diet, exercise, and mindset helped him overcome barriers, improve his well-being, and inspire those around him. During the episode, he shares dozens of practical tips on kick-starting your transformation, staying motivated, understanding what foods are truly healthy and incorporating them into your diet. KEY TAKEAWAYS Try getting up early. For, Nathan, that one change made developing the positive habits he needed to complete his transformation, far easier. Learn about nutrition. Acquiring that knowledge, a little bit each day, doesn´t take long. You soon learn to recognise junk food and hidden calories so you can avoid eating them. Learn to cook and teach your kids too. When you do, you regain full awareness and control of what is going into your body. Meal prepping makes it much easier to eat healthily. At first cooking for a couple of hours one day a week will feel hard. But it actually saves you time, reduces stress, your food bills and the temptation to eat junk. Running for both Kat and Nathan has been life changing and provides the exercise they need. Yet, both of them hated running. Until, that is, they tried a different approach that made it easy. That approach is shared during the episode. BEST MOMENTS "He dreaded ever seeing anybody that he knew, because he felt so uncomfortable in his skin." “It's not difficult to be in a calorie deficit, but it's very easy not to be. “ "It comes down to two things - what you put in your body and how much you move.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://boldbeanco.com Previous episodes mentioned in this episode – https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-positive-habits-podcast/id1754112459 https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/brutal-honesty-you-need-breaking-free-with-jay-alderton/id1754112459 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Miracle-Morning-Updated-Expanded-Transform-ebook/dp/B0CJ6N7CK9 ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Kat is frequently asked about her own habits. Today, she talks about one that literally transformed her life, going for a short run. Like most of us, as a child, Kat could think of nothing worse than cross country running, a school activity that was more “punishment than joy.” Kat shares what changed her mind and how she discovered that running was an effective way to energise herself, improve focus, strengthen her mind and build resilience. KEY TAKEAWAYS Exercise does far more than get you physically fit. It energises you, provides you with a mental reset and builds resilience. Enabling you to show up as your best self for everyone and everything in your life. You don´t have to run for long to enjoy powerful results. Kat just runs for 10 minutes a day. It starts a positive ripple effect. Exercise does not have to be difficult. Any movement is beneficial, dancing, walking, even deep breathing. BEST MOMENTS "Exercise isn't about your body. Exercise is about your mind, about energising yourself, about building resilience, about wearing a cape that makes you feel like you can take on anything in life." "I don't do any exercise now, for my physical appearance, I do it all for how I feel and how it helps me perform." "Movement makes you feel alive – any kind of movement." “Starting in your day in a different way could change the way that day goes.” ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Are you so busy that you are constantly saying no to doing those activities that keep you healthy, energised and motivated? In this episode, Kat uncovers the hidden benefits of saying yes to activities that boost your well-being. She demonstrates how investing time in yourself actually results in you feeling less stretched and more fulfilled. Kat shares a simple method you can use to change your nos to yeses. KEY TAKEAWAYS Life is way too short to not take opportunities, especially to do more of the things that energise and inspire us. Saying yes to activities that energise you restores your focus and clarity, tops up your joy, boosts creativity and motivates you. Prioritise your well-being. Identify what truly uplifts you, schedule time for it and do it even when you get incredibly busy. This week, commit to do one of the things you have been saying no to for too long. BEST MOMENTS "Investing in yourself, investing your time in whatever it is, is actually the key to speeding up." "Positive energy creates mental clarity, which creates the best decisions, which increases everything—time, energy, and so on." “When we're busy, our instinct is to contract and do less, we isolate and avoid saying yes to things. But actually we thrive on new things, on movement, on connection.” “Life is way too short to not take opportunities and to not do more things that are actually energising us.” EPISODE RESOURCES Business Coach – Chris James - https://www.chris-james.co ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Do you ever feel like you’re constantly busy but never truly in control of your time? In this episode, Kat dives into why so many of us feel overwhelmed in today’s fast-paced, always-on world. From the endless stream of information to the pressure of putting everyone else’s needs before our own, she explores what’s really driving that sense of exhaustion and disconnection. You’ll discover how taking time for reflection, keeping a simple diary of your daily activities, and focusing on what truly energises you can help you reclaim your time and restore balance. Whether you’re feeling stretched too thin or simply craving more calm and clarity, this episode will inspire you to slow down, prioritise yourself, and build a life that feels more fulfilling - one positive habit at a time. KEY TAKEAWAYS Many people report feeling overwhelmingly busy, prompting a reflection on whether this busyness is genuine or a result of overcommitting and not prioritising effectively. The constant consumption of information throughout the day contributes to feelings of busyness and overwhelm, leaving little time for rest and reflection. It's essential to identify daily priorities and focus on completing the most important tasks first, rather than getting caught up in others' demands. Learning to say no to commitments that do not serve personal well-being is crucial. Overcommitting can lead to neglecting self-care, which ultimately affects everyone around us. Keeping a diary of daily activities and habits can help individuals recognise how they spend their time and identify areas that contribute to feelings of busyness, allowing for more intentional living. BEST MOMENTS "We are in a productivity crisis, and we're in the middle of a global mental health pandemic." "When we neglect ourselves, everyone pays the price. It has a ripple effect on our work, our families, and our health." "If you're saying I haven't got time, just use this podcast episode as an opportunity to go, hang on a minute, why do I feel busy all the time?" "Just write down everything you eat, and write down all the things you do in terms of movement." Are you struggling to break free from old habits and achieve lasting weight loss and health? In this episode, Kat sits down with Ben Chudley to discuss how after a lifetime of weight battles he and his wife lost over 6 stone each and, today, lead a healthier, happier life. You will discover how changing your mindset, embracing structured routines, and prioritising habits like meal planning, strength training, and quality sleep will transform not just your body, but your entire outlook on life. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for that final push, this conversation will motivate you to believe that real, sustainable change is possible - one positive habit at a time. KEY TAKEAWAYS Lasting weight loss comes from changing your mindset and building sustainable habits. Ben and his wife followed structured meal plans, hired a personal trainer and prioritised sleep while using the weight loss jab. The weight loss jab is a tool. It breaks the cycle of constantly thinking about food, but it does not replace, your commitment to positive routines. Seeking out and investing in the right tools makes things much, much easier and heightens your chances of success. Ben combined the weight loss jab with a structured meal plan and hired a personal trainer. Eating healthily and targeted exercise provides a framework for future healthy living as well as supporting weight loss. If you are not honest with yourself about what you are doing you will never identify the underlying issues that are holding you back, address them and change your bad habits. Keeping a food diary is a good way to help you to see where you are going wrong and improve your diet for good. BEST MOMENTS "You can have a rose-tinted view of what you’re doing, whether that’s exercise, nutrition, sleep or your relationship. Then there’s the facts, the cold, hard facts, which you can’t escape from." "Mindset is a lot of it." "I’ve noticed big positive changes around the way I prioritise sleep now." ABOUT THE GUEST Ben Chudley is the Director for Nightingales Golden Care that provides care in people's own homes to the elderly and disabled. Kat speaks with Caitlin, a productivity coach whose journey began with a life-altering health challenge at 18. Together, they explore how Caitlin turned adversity into a passion for sustainable productivity, meaningful work, and well-being. She shares practical strategies for building positive habits, navigating the modern world of AI and reclaiming focus in our distracted world. Caitlin provides a powerful reminder that small changes, self-awareness, and a growth mindset really can transform both your work and life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sustainable productivity balances achievement with well-being. Caitlin has a sight issue that gets worse with stress, anxiety and tiredness. Being productive helps Caitlin to stay balanced and well. AI tools can increase output but use them consciously and consider their broader effects. For example, using it to write everything for you can erode your writing skills and ability to communicate effectively. Don´t fall into the busyness trap. True productivity is about doing what matters most, not just filling time. Recognise that it’s okay to leave some tasks unfinished. Focus on what’s truly important and let go of perfectionism. Systemic and organisational issues exist but there is always things within your control that you can change. Small changes e.g. Scheduling focused work in the mornings and meetings in the afternoons can have a big impact on productivity and well-being. BEST MOMENTS "It isn't enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about?" "Habits are a lifelong commitment to being the best version of myself." "Life is an unending series of complications. We don't know what's going to happen, but we know something is coming. There's no point getting stressed about the fact it's coming." ABOUT THE GUEST Caitlin Rozario is on a mission to make work better. Founder and facilitator – interlude, a career development company that focuses on corporate workshops to build sustainable productivity As the award-winning founder of interlude, Caitlin designs and delivers learning experiences to promote healthier, more sustainable versions of productivity, helping people to do remarkable things without the personal price tags of chronic stress, burnout and overwhelm. Inspired by her own experience overcoming a life-changing health challenge, Caitlin’s workshops have supported thousands of ambitious people and teams – from companies like Visa to global communities like Sophia Amoruso’s Business Class – to develop high performance that’s built to last. Kat speaks with Gareth Webb, Managing Director of Fairways, an award-winning children's services charity based in the south of England and Wales. They discuss the difference fostering makes to the lives of the children, their foster families and society as a whole. Through real stories, Gareth demonstrates how positive habits, trauma-informed care, businesses and community support can come together to transform the lives of everyone involved. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fostering is facing a national crisis. The UK needs more people to step up and make a difference for vulnerable children. Anyone can potentially foster or help in other ways. Whether you work full-time, run a business, or just want to help, there’s a role for you in supporting young people in care. Trauma-informed care and consistent, reliable support are life-changing for children and care leavers. Community and business involvement can open doors, provide opportunities, and help break the cycle for those leaving care. Real connection, empathy, and being present are the most powerful ways we can support each other and create lasting change. BEST MOMENTS "Look after yourself, then you’re able to look after the people around you a lot better as well." "For us it's about creating a safe environment and a safety net for these young people. That means stability, reliability, predictability, structure, routine and being a stable role model in their life." "Children in care are still children and actually, we want to break that cycle. They didn’t ask for the life start they were given." Kat speaks with Chuks Uwaechia, the visionary founder of Kent Housing and a passionate philanthropist who is a hands-on supporter of Gillingham Street Angels. A charity that works to ensure that the people of Medway have access to good food, clothes and education. He and Kat discuss how positive lifestyle habits, being empathetic and kind is a powerful combination that attracts the people you need to you and helps to transform society and the lives of those around you. KEY TAKEAWAYS Taking care of yourself, your employees and family helps you and everyone around you. For example, a well-rested team delivers better results. Helping your community demonstrates to others that they can trust you. That is good for everyone including your business. Effective leadership is about inspiring and supporting others. Often, your positive habits become the positive habits of your family, workers and friends. But remember that the same is true for your negative habits. Showing people kindness and empathy empowers them. As well as helping them practically, it demonstrates to them that someone cares about them and that they matter. Often that empowerment translates into them finding the strength to take more steps to help themselves and them helping others too. For Chuk, taking regular exercise has turned out to be his most impactful personal habit. BEST MOMENTS "In everything that you do, you need to have that positive outlook. Your aura obviously attracts. When you have that enthusiasm, you attract people." "Kindness is the new currency, when you show kindness you empower people." "People who look after themselves perform better in all areas, both at work and at home." Today, Kat speaks with the Head of People at Bosch Digital,  Marina Takács for an honest conversation about perfectionism and the pressure that comes from always being the “the strong one”. Marina shares how she burnt out despite being there to stop others from doing exactly that and how she recovered and came back even stronger. Whether you’re leading a team, managing a demanding role, or simply juggling life’s endless demands, this episode offers practical strategies to help you develop positive habits. Including setting boundaries, protecting your mornings, being self-disciplined, and protecting your energy. Habits that enable you to thrive in both your personal and work life — without burning out. KEY TAKEAWAYS ·  Even strong leaders burn out. Marina believed she could juggle everything — until her body “sent her emails” telling her otherwise, which she ignored. ·  Being busy can feel meaningful, but often it´s just stress in disguise. ·  Recovery starts with small, uncomfortable changes, for example learning to say no without guilt or scheduling and protecting your down time. ·  Strength includes pausing: Real leadership models recovery and boundaries, not just absorbing stress. ·  Regularly check in with yourself. Pausing briefly to honestly reflect on your energy, mood, and reactions will help you spot early warning signs of problems and head them off. ·  Discipline and consistency are what keeps habits alive, especially when life gets busy. If you need to exercise every day, prioritise it and do it even on your busiest day.   BEST MOMENTS   “My body sent me an email — but I never opened it.”   “I think was confusing adrenaline with purpose.”   “I  just stopped glorifying being always on.”   “Real strength is knowing when to pause.”   “Consistency beats intensity every time — especially on Mondays.”   “If I burn out, I’m not just hurting myself  obviously I'm hurting my family, my loved ones and I’m setting the wrong tone for my team.”   ABOUT THE GUEST Marina is Head of People, Organiaation and Culture. Kat speaks with Mark and Chloe Legg, a dynamic couple with 4 children who manage 25 businesses - all while prioritising personal growth and self-care. Discover how they transformed their lives through intentional habits, balanced family and business, and found creative ways to spend quality time together. Their story is a testament to the power of mindset, partnership, and making self-improvement a non-negotiable part of daily life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Prepare for the next day the night before and establish a morning routine that enables you to start your day calmly, without the need to rush. This sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. Don´t follow trends. Instead, identify what works for you and as your life changes, adjust your healthy routines to suit. Commit to trying a new habit for 30 days to see if it works for you. Mindfulness helps you to become more present and get more out of activities like spending time with loved ones. Avoiding negativity also helps e.g. Not constantly watching the news. Involving each other in your personal development journeys helps you to stay connected and supportive of each other’s growth. BEST MOMENTS “Not finding time - prioritising time to look after ourselves, is probably one of the secrets… The more we work on ourselves the better we become.” "We don't have jobs, we have a lifestyle. Everything's Incorporated – health, fitness, our family, the businesses, everything's incorporated. That's just our lifestyle." "Just press pause for a minute and go, actually, is this the way I want to live my life? It doesn't have to be like this just because you were raised and conditioned to be rushed." "It was just to give himself five minutes before he started going into the day, and he's noticed that his heart rate has decreased by 32%." “Try a new habit for 30 days. Today's solo episode is a story. It's the story of a very powerful positive habit change - a habit change that seemed so tiny that it was hard to imagine that it's going to have any impact at all. It took a few minutes a day and had a hugely positive impact on the life of a mum and her 11-year-old autistic son.  This very short, but powerful episode is exactly what you need to inspire you to come up with and make that one tiny positive habit change that has the potential to transform your day… every day. KEY TAKEAWAYS  One small change that takes literally minutes of your day, really can have a huge positive impact on you and your life and everyone around you. Your making a positive habit change that helps someone you care for also boosts your own well-being and creates a happier and easier life for both of you. Habits that change how you start your day has a ripple effect, it improves how the rest of your day goes. BEST MOMENTS "Focus on one very small, realistic change that you can make. Even if that's just for a few minutes a day." "They're now starting the day in a really energetic, positive, excitable way, and it doesn't matter what's going on at school or work." "I can't even believe sometimes the power of one small positive habit change. Then, I hear stories like this, and I think this is why I'm doing what I'm doing. " ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Despite appearing 'successful' on the outside, she paid a heavy ‘life’ price. In 2016, her whole world collapsed. The reason? The compound effect of years of unhealthy and toxic habits that destroyed her health, relationship and career. She suffered a severe breakdown and lost everything. In the middle of this she got headhunted for her first CEO role. She rebuilt herself by changing just one small habit and built a series of positive habits which has transformed her professional and personal performance, resulting in becoming the healthiest and happiest version of herself.  She is a positive habits international keynote speaker and teacher, giving talks and delivering high impact programmes to organisations across the globe.  LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/katthorne Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/the_morning_gamechanger Sponsor : VennCard, the last business card you’ll ever need. Kat speaks with Sonja Liwani-Ansari, mother of triplets and Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs Manager at the BBC. She and Kat discuss juggling motherhood and work. Before joining the BBC, where she found an understanding and supportive environment, she was bullied in the workplace for being a mother. Sonja shares what this situation taught her and how it and other experiences shaped her life and what she is planning to do in the future. KEY TAKEAWAYS At a previous job, Sonja was bullied, for sometimes having to leave early to take care of her children. Other mothers were targeted in the same way. Sonja´s line manager at the BBC was supportive. For her, Sonja sometimes having to start late or finish early to look after her children was not a problem. She knew that Sonja would make up the time and still get her work done to a high standard. There is still a disconnect in the workplace between those who have family members to care for and those that do not. How you behave matters. Don´t wish bad on people, even those who treat you badly. Try to be empathetic. Everything that happens in life happens for a reason, including the things that are hard to deal with. It all teaches you something. Teaching our youngsters to speak up when they see inequality is important. When enough people truly believe everyone should be rewarded for their hard work equally, and step up to make it happen, society automatically becomes fairer. BEST MOMENTS "In my previous job, I was actually bullied for having children and having to leave earlier to pick them up and not because I was working less - I was switching on the laptop when I got home." 'I didn't want her to win at pushing me out of the organisation, which is why I stayed. I may have won in one way, but I lost in another way – it scarred me." "I do think it's important when people do things to us to try to understand why did they behave like that? Because it's often much more complex than the actual act." "Wouldn't it be so great if men and women could be allies and help each other with everything, and it would make everything so much easier." ABOUT THE GUEST Sonia is BBC Commercial Rights and Business Affairs Manager and mother of 17 year old triplets, working full time while being the main carer. My drive to keep everyone happy and my desire for perfection was wearing me down. I was very unhappy and needed to make a change without letting it impact my children. https://www.linkedin.com/in/sonja-liwani-ansari-4a574817 ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Kat speaks with Ben from Thrive in Farming during the middle of harvest season for a conversation about mental health in agriculture and the power of small habits. Ben opens up about his two corporate burnouts and how neglecting basic self care nearly broke him. From his daily dog walks to calling out "time excuse bullshit," Ben shares why intentional living saved his sanity. With agriculture having the highest male suicide rates, this isn't just about meal prep; it's about survival. KEY TAKEAWAYS ·      Having lost farming friends to suicide, Ben understands why the industry has the highest male suicide rates from weather pressures, government changes and even online abuse. ·      Ben’s two burnouts revealed the cost of neglecting habits. Both of his worst professional experiences happened when he abandoned self care routines, teaching him exactly what never to repeat! ·      People have time but the wrong priorities, having extra sleep instead of 20 minutes of meal prep is a choice. ·      After 15 years of poor nutrition, Ben’s homemade heated lunches have increased his overall energy levels and eliminated the dreaded 2 PM crash too. ·      Age has brought perspective that lets Ben focus on helping people who want positive change rather than engaging with critics.   BEST MOMENTS "Everything is available to us if we make these small changes. I think one thing I've learned about human beings is we are really good at deflection." You know you have time, it's just you haven't got your priorities right." "Just be a sponge. Just take info in it. There's, it's all around you all the time. Filter out the bullshit." ABOUT THE GUEST  I'm Ben, the founder of Thrive In Farming, a business helping farm owners attract and retain great people by focusing on core values – culture, wellbeing, and flexibility. With a background in farming and a passion for health and personal growth, I am on a mission to help rural businesses, and people, thrive, not just survive. Outside of work I spend as much time as possible with my little family and dogs, exploring the countryside, supporting Ipswich Town and trying to keep fit! In this episode, Kat speaks about what she has learnt and noticed from delivering her talks to teams and from her own experiences of the power of habits. She shares how many of us get lost in life and don’t prioritise ourselves, and how easy it is to not recognise the bad habits we have been creating. Kat talks about the power and influence habits have on shaping our entire life and shares an exercise she delivers in her talks to get you thinking about what things you can change in your life to start living better. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Kat’s toxic and negative habits that led to complete burnout in 2016 were the result of not prioritising herself. • One of the biggest things Kat has come to realise when delivering talks is how easy it is to sleepwalk into bad habits and how transformative recognising the power of habits, both positive and negative, can be. • Even if people think life is generally good, just taking 10 minutes for yourself can make such a difference in your life. • Think about some of the things you are doing in your daily life that you know are affecting you, whether that’s your mood, energy, relationships or anything else. • What are the things that make you feel good and give you energy, these can be things that you do now or things you have done in the past. • What habits could you commit to doing, and what impact could these habits make on your life? BEST MOMENTS “I love having just 10 minutes with my microphone to talk about things that I am passionate about” “It’s really easy for us to get lost in life” “What are the things that give you energy, what are the things that make you feel amazing?” ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. In this powerful episode, Kat is joined by entrepreneur Rasha Shammout to explore the skills schools often overlook — like emotional resilience, daily habits, and independence. Together, they dive into the habits that matter most at home and in life, from screen-free family meals to teaching children how to manage change with confidence. Rasha shares her journey from the corporate world to the classroom, highlighting what she believes every child should be learning. Whether you're a parent, educator, or just passionate about the future of education, this episode will leave you inspired to take small actions that make a big difference. 🔑 Key Takeaways: Schools prioritise grades over real-world skills like organisation, independence, and accountability. Daily habits like making the bed or prepping breakfast help kids build confidence and life readiness. Teaching children to embrace change builds long-term resilience. Phone-free family time strengthens mental health and connection. Kids mirror their parents — modelling good habits is essential. Every child is unique — even twins — and needs an individualised approach. ✨ Best Moments: “If you're organised at home, you're going to be organised in life.” “We never learned how to be entrepreneurs or even how to present to a group.” “I told my child not to have a phone in their bedroom — then realised mine was right next to me.” “Kids are struggling with change because they’ve never been taught how to manage uncertainty.” ABOUT THE GUEST Rasha Shammout is an entrepreneur and the visionary Founder and CEO of EduGlobal Management, a firm specialising in education reform, strategic consulting, and financial services. She is known for empowering communities through innovative school improvement models, high-impact proposals, and dynamic leadership across regional and global platforms. Kat talks with Karen, who went from accidentally building a global creative agency to nearly killing herself saving it. Karen shares how this led to adrenal fatigue so severe that she developed pre-diabetes, and what she had to change in her life to survive. Karen shares why the 'have it all' mentality is toxic, her glass balls vs rubber balls theory for managing life and how she's rewiring her perfectionist brain. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Working in the events industry, which ranks alongside firefighters in the top 5 most stressful jobs, Karen admits Type A personalities like herself can’t help themselves and will fight through everything until they crash. • Life feels like living with a thousand tabs open in her brain. Unlike her business partner, who compartmentalises perfectly, Karen is constantly juggling work emails, school WhatsApp groups, and the mental load of motherhood, making it impossible to truly switch off. • As someone in a position of power, Karen refuses to perpetuate the lie that women can have everything simultaneously without paying a price. • Karen has abandoned all or nothing exercise training for 10-minute walks and weekly tennis lessons, admitting triathlons now 'sound horrible' compared to 15 years ago when they felt fun. • Dr. Mark Hyman's research changed her perspective completely, learning that sedentary lifestyles are more dangerous than smoking transformed how she views getting up every hour for squats or water as essential survival, not productivity breaks. BEST MOMENTS "I fought like hell, not just for my life, but for everybody who works for us, for all of our clients and every supplier that counts on us for business." "We can have it all, guess what? It's gonna come at a price. It's really unrealistic to think you can have it all, or at least all together all the time." "A sedentary lifestyle is more dangerous than smoking to your health. We grew up seeing cigarette packs with shrivelled lungs, but now it's the lack of movement that will kill you." ABOUT THE GUEST Karen is the Co-Founding Partner of Brands at Work, the award-winning creative communications and events agency that unleashes the power of experience to build trust and loyalty between brands and the people who matter most. Her passion lies in helping companies become better storytellers — building vibrant brand communities from the inside out. In this short solo episode, Kat shares the powerful story of Steve – a guy who felt tired and overwhelmed, until he committed to just one small habit: a 10-minute walk each morning. What followed surprised even him – increased energy, sharper focus, and a ripple effect that inspired his entire family. Kat also shares real examples from others who’ve completed her 21-day habit challenge and dives into why small changes are often the most powerful. If you’re feeling stretched or stuck, this episode will show you how just 10 minutes a day can shift everything – mentally, physically, and even professionally. KEY TAKEAWAYS: • Try a small habit for 21 days – the impact can be bigger than you think • If you can't find 10 minutes for yourself, something needs to change • Participants in the 21-day challenge report feeling fitter, calmer, and more productive • Feeling better physically improves your mindset, relationships, and performance BEST MOMENTS: “If I can’t even give myself 10 minutes, then there’s something wrong” “If you’re feeling fitter, fresher, you are going to be more productive, but you’re also going to be a nicer person to be around” “It’s had a ripple effect both personally and professionally” ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Former Royal Marine and police officer Simon doesn’t hold back as he shares his unapologetic take on parenting, discipline, fitness—and why your morning routine might be holding you back. The discussion covers his recent observations on the physical state of men, his opinions on vaping and his approach to raising his 11-year-old son Charlie. Simon and Kat discuss discipline versus motivation, screen time, parenting approaches and what Simon sees as society's increasing softness. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Morning routines can become counterproductive and Simon argues that obsessive morning routines harm more than help when people focus more on the routine than actual productive work during the day. • Exercise can easily be integrated into daily life, Simon demonstrates fitting training into everyday activities like doing dips while cooking or pull ups during screen breaks, making fitness accessible without gym memberships. • After 47 years of training, Simon feels motivated only 50% of the time, but still trains daily by making it non-negotiable and asking "when will I train" not "will I train." Discipline matters more than motivation. • Children shouldn't be pacified with screens, Simon never gives his son screens at restaurants or when crying, instead engaging him in conversation and teaching him to interact with adults and handle boredom. • Simon judges people's ability to protect and help others based on basic physical tasks, viewing fitness as functional rather than aesthetic. • Self-esteem comes from achieving goals, confidence is built through "an undeniable stack of evidence that you are who you say you are" rather than positive affirmations. • Modern society promotes instant gratification. From Amazon Prime to dating apps, Simon sees society losing the ability to wait, creating what he calls "the Amazon Prime Society" where everything must be immediate! • Simon views vaping as "an adult dummy" that shows lack of self-control, comparing the constant use to pacification rather than the occasional nature of traditional smoking. BEST MOMENTS "If Instagram disappeared tonight, I'd be in my garden tomorrow morning training. Nothing changes for me." "A man should do what he says he's gonna do. That to me is the mark of a man." "Self-esteem isn't chanting mantras in the mirror in the morning. It's building an undeniable stack of evidence that you are who you say you are." ABOUT THE GUEST Simon Martin. Father first, always. That’s how Phil Carr describes the surreal moment after selling his multimillion-pound business. Kat is joined by serial entrepreneur Phil for a conversation about the real cost of building successful businesses. Phil talks about founding MyPT Hub in his grandmother's spare bedroom and how he sold it for millions. This isn't a typical success story; it's a brutally honest account of how stress manifested into ulcerative colitis, the moment everything changed when he sold his company and the life changing habits he then built his life around. Kat and Phil also discuss why work/life balance is a myth, the simple power of being present and the importance of vulnerability in leadership. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Work/life balance is a myth for entrepreneurs. Having built multiple businesses since 2013, Phil explains that success requires periods where work is heavily skewed, but staying conscious of when you're doing too much is also crucial. • Chronic stress manifested as ulcerative colitis for Phil. During the most demanding period of building MyPT Hub, his autoimmune disease developed, then disappeared within 48 hours of selling the business, proving the mind and body connection. • Small changes create compounding effects, rather than overhauling everything at once, Phil’s approach focuses on changing one habit at a time, which he learned creates sustainable changed through compounding. • Being present requires conscious practice, Phil admits it can feel difficult and strange to begin with, but it makes a huge difference. • Vulnerability strengthens leadership, leading his team of friends and family through openness about struggles and failures has created deeper connections and better business performance without ego or status getting in the way. • Most people don't care about your failures and we overestimate others' judgment of our setbacks. • Phil found that removing his phone from the bedroom and reading before sleeping for seven hours improved his anxiety levels and helped his digestive health, changing everything about his life. BEST MOMENTS "I was walking on a tight rope, but I never realised it was only six inches off the ground” "I think that people naturally gravitate towards wanting to help people." "Are you lying to yourself? Because you can't deceive yourself. You will know in your heart of hearts if you are doing something you genuinely believe in." "It feels alien at first... but being present with your children is so fundamentally important."
