Through her experience participating in Georgian protests, we unpack the complex dynamics of being a foreigner engaged in another country's struggle for democracy. The conversation weaves through her family's history with communism, her current role in Georgian protests, and the delicate balance of maintaining authentic self-expression while immersing in a new culture. We explore: The intersection of personal and political identity during protests How family history shapes our relationship with democracy The challenges and rewards of cultural immersion The role of foreigners in local political movements Self-reflection and identity preservation while adapting to new cultures The unique challenge of sharing transformative experiences with loved ones back home Through Eva's story, we examine how political engagement in a foreign country can both challenge and clarify our sense of self, while highlighting the universal human desire for democracy and authentic connection.

The first episode exploring issues of identity in Georgia. Nicolas Kerszenbaum is a playwright from France, doing research in Georgia for a play on Abkhazia, a region in the South Caucasus which struggles for it’s own independence and identity as an independent, sovereign state, both from Georgia and from Russia. To follow Nicolas’s work: https://www.franchement-tu.com/ We explore the identity of a small country. We explore identities built on what they lost. Why is this place, Abhrazia, important to so many people’s identity? To what extent do we control of our selves? To what extent do we know ourselves? What happens to identity with change over time? How do actors embody identities other than their own? How do playwrights write for characters with identities other than their own? To follow Nicolas’s work: https://www.franchement-tu.com/

Anna and Noa

Anna and Noa

Two young Danish adventurers in an Istanbul cafe. Who are we when we leave our countries and travel in a van for a year? Who do we become? Which experiences/perspectives are reserved for locals and which for foreigners? How much does this have to do with our own mentalities? What does it mean to identify as an adult? What to do when you feel like an imposter? Will we fall back into old patterns when we return to home?
From childhood to adulthood… From art school to freedom and isolation and back… What makes an artist? What is art and what’s even the point? What does artwork say about the artist? How do should we deal with self judgement? How can we accept ourselves and what we do? How relative is ‘good’? How relative is identity? What is modern Hungarian identity? Andrea brings light back into old questions. And, as always, we have a good time connecting.
