Today’s guest, a fella named Andrew, is one of those people— and in his case, it IS intentional. He’s constantly saying yes to the craziest of opportunities, so that he always has great stories with which to entertain his friends. But in this episode, Andrew tells Matt what he considers his very BEST story, which involves a Jamaican scientist who loves to cook ribs, get naked without warning, invite strangers into his sauna to EAT the ribs he cooked, and then brandish a machete. The Private Record — Episode 17 — "When Your Friend's Trauma Becomes Your Drama" Episode 17 is here and IT IS A WILD ONE! So many twists and turns in this one, it’s best to keep this short and sweet, so here goes— Our guest Jason was in college in Florida at the time of this tale, when he and his brothers decided to rent a place there for a chill summer full of sunshine and partying. Only a few friends of his remained in town while school was out— one of them being the ex girlfriend of Jason’s former roommate. And at a get together at Jason’s place one night, this ex-girlfriend of Jason’s friend showed up (AGAIN— after already having left about an hour earlier) in a very bad way... bloodied, beaten, and unable to speak— clearly severely traumatized in some way. Freaked out for his friend and just generally wanting to be a good person, Jason immediately took on a protector role of sorts, which ends up being wayyyyy more than he bargained for... The Private Record — Episode 016 — "When You Make Fake Money To Buy Drugs & Your Dealer Tries To Kill You For It" This story sounds and feels like a sequence from a movie BUT, the thing is, it ACTUALLY HAPPENED. And the fact that our guest Christina is even alive to tell us the tale is... well... absolutely and completely bingbong bonkers insane. When Christina was a teenager she was hooked on heroin. Like, REALLY hooked. So hooked, in fact, that at one point she needed a fix so bad that she (along with two equally heroin-hooked friends) printed fake money (on regular computer paper!!!) to buy over 200 hundred dollars worth of H from their gang-affiliated dealer. Somehow, at first, the exchange goes off without a hitch— but when Christina's friend steps back into her car to drive off with the goods, Christina quickly realizes this will NOT be the clean getaway she was hoping for. What ensues is a high speed chase along an interstate freeway, infuriated gangbangers, and gunshots whizzing by the heads of Christina and her heroin-addled friends. The Private Record — Episode 015 — "When a Silly Prank Goes Very Very Wrong" Mason's plan to prank his college roommate was simple enough. But as we all know, even the simplest of plans don't always work out as... well... planned! And frankly, Mason's plan could not have worked out any WORSE. Right out of the gate, one unfortunate (but hilarious) development led to another, and then to another, and so on, resulting in Mason paying an absurdly (and comically) high price for his rather harmless prank attempt. This was of course all very bad news for Mason. But it was very GOOD news for Matt, and is great news for all of you, because you get to hear this prank-gone-wrong story from Mason himself— and laugh, and laugh, and laugh (both AT Mason AND with him). Don’t know what that is? Well neither did Matt— until this episode’s guest Bekah enlightened him on the matter by telling her story.  Which goes like this: around 2am, after a long night at work, Bekah was driving home along an empty Atlanta freeway when WHAM— her car slams into a blur that had suddenly flung itself right in front of her, out of absolutely nowhere. After crashing into the median Bekah somehow gained control of her vehicle, came to a stop, looked back, and— yep, that blur was a human being.  And somehow, this was only the BEGINNING of Bekah’s nightmare night. The Private Record — Episode 013 — "When Your Stomach Explodes" Our guest today is a charming Australian fellow named Kirby. And boy oh boy does he have a medical nightmare of a story for you! About 4 years ago, at the peak of the world’s initial Covid freak-out, Kirby’s stomach had a freak-out of its own… unthinkable, unbearable, impossible-to-imagine pain. Usually not one to worry, Kirby knew he had no choice but to rush to the hospital, which of course was being flooded with panicked (and dying) Covid patients. Basically, it was the absolute worst time in world history to go to the emergency room. But it’s a good thing Kirby DID go to the emergency room. Thanks to an underlying condition Kirby didn’t even know he had, his large intestine had quite literally exploded, causing his body to go into septic shock, putting him on the precipice of death. 5 weeks, 3 surgeries, 1 bout with Covid, 1 (temporary) colostomy bag, and 1 gnarly scar later, Kirby would be able to say he had gone through complete and utter hell— and was extremely lucky to still be among the living. Episode 11 is here! CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP! When Matt (this episode’s guest, not its host!) was in his late 20s, he was a broke meth addict who needed an easier way to score — which is exactly what he got when he got hooked up with a high-quantity dealer who needed a hand moving product in Matt’s upper-class NorCal neighborhood. 'Good deal!', Matt thought... but what Matt did NOT think, or even have the slightest clue about, was that this new dealer pal worked for the infamous (and murderous) Zetas cartel— that is, until the FEDs came-a-knocking, with the threat of a MINIMUM sentence of 25 to life, unless Matt became an informant for them. So without much of a choice, Matt went to work (undercover!) for the FBI, helping put scores of dealers and middle men behind bars over the course of three chaotic, high-stress years. But between the mental strain of the undercover work, his newfound sobriety, and his growing conscience, Matt knew he would not be able to live like this forever. So Matt asked himself the ultimate question: continue living like this under the proverbial sword of Damocles, or finally face the music and spend some time behind bars? Episode 10 is here! Behold, the story of a genuine MEDICAL MIRACLE! Bode was a happy, able-bodied, athletic 14-year-old kid— until a completely random, totally freak accident left him with a nearly severed spinal cord, entirely unable to move from the neck down. His doctors warned him not to even HOPE to walk again, as literally no one in the history of medicine has recovered from such an injury. (Not one!!!) Somehow, against all possible odds, he not only began to recover— but he was suddenly recovering at an astonishingly rapid clip. Which bred hope, optimism, and determination. Which in turn sped the pace of his recovery even further. Until one day he was completely back to full health, walking and talking and LIVING as he always had, even getting back into his sport of choice (which, being that he is from the American Northeast, is of course lacrosse). All of a sudden, Jonathan was a national hero, even appearing on programs like 'Dr. Phil' to tell his story of bravery and strength. Sounds crazy, right?! Seven episodes in and we think it's high time for our very first EPIC SURVIVAL STORY. Our guest Zach is an accomplished and experienced aerial photographer for movies and tv shows. One night after a long day of work on the mega-massive-hit show ‘Yellowstone’, Zach loads up his gear and begins his 3-hour drive through the serpentine Montana mountains, amid cold and icy conditions, back to his hotel for a good night of hard-earned sleep. But on a particularly dangerous and desolate stretch of road, Zach encounters a patch of black ice that has other plans for him. Next thing he knows, his truck is upside down atop a frozen body of water— at which point the ice breaks, and he starts to sink. Fast. Unfortunately for Zach, avoiding a horrible death by drowning in freezing water was only the beginning of his troubles. He did, however, live to tell the tale. By the time Ben turned 18, he knew he had to get out— so that’s exactly what he did. But it wasn’t easy! In fact, it was probably the hardest part of all. Today’s guest (who asked to remain nameless, for reasons you will very soon understand) has a confession to make: when he was just a wee teenager, he became one of Southern California’s largest suppliers of fake IDs. As his ‘business’ rapidly expanded throughout the entire Golden State (and eventually beyond its borders), he became a folk hero of sorts to the thousands of kids aged 16-20 for whom he provided a ‘legal’ means for a good time. But as his legend grew and even some of his most faraway customers began whispering his name, so did the risk involved in his (obviously illegal) enterprise.
