Description

For over 25 years Proverbs 31 Ministries' mission has been to intersect God's Word in the real, hard places we all struggle with. That's why we started this podcast. Every episode will feature a variety of teachings from president Lysa TerKeurst, staff members or friends of the ministry who can teach you something valuable from their vantage point. We hope that regardless of your age, background or stage of life, it's something you look forward to listening to each month!

Depending on your church background, you might participate in Advent every year, or you might stay away from it because it seems like a mysterious, age-old tradition that's reserved for only certain denominations. You might even associate Advent with a candy calendar you see displayed in stores close to the holiday season.
When a friend's world has been turned upside down by infidelity or other relational tensions, what do you do?
In the last episode of The Proverbs 31 Ministries Podcast, you heard Lysa TerKeurst, her personal licensed counselor Jim Cress, and Proverbs 31 Ministries director of theology Joel Muddamalle unpack the topic of "narcissism."
"Narcissism." It's a word that gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean? And, how does it affect your life?
Reading a passage of Scripture about trusting God is so easy, but actually living out trust isn't so easy, right?

A Confidence Built on Christ

A Confidence Built on Christ

Do you ever find it hard to let God work on your behalf? Are you tempted to trust in your own strength rather than let God work things out for you?
Why is it so enticing to choose lesser things over lasting things? Do you ever pick up your phone or watch a mindless show without thinking anything of it, but end up wondering where the day went when you lay down at night? Sometimes even the things that are entertaining and good can leave us feeling empty, lesser and lacking. So, how do we set healthy boundaries and train our minds to choose what's best over what seems right in the moment?
"Can God be good even when life is not?" It's a question we've been wrestling through together as a ministry since Lysa TerKeurst released her book, It's Not Supposed to Be This Way.
It's easy to look back and think of all the things you'd do differently in your teenage years, isn't it? Maybe there are some small things you'd change ... you wouldn't have worn so much makeup or pushed yourself to do better in math. Or perhaps the people you thought were your best friends led you to make decisions that now you'd do much differently.
Today is a very special day on The Proverbs 31 Ministries Podcast because ... (drum roll please) we're celebrating our first birthday! Over the past year, we've released 31 episodes - how fitting for Proverbs 31, right? But there's more to celebrate than just the number of episodes we released. With every episode, we reached hearts and homes around the globe (literally!) with biblical truth for any girl in any season. We're so thankful for the way the Lord has used this podcast above and beyond what we could have imagined!
Do you ever find yourself fighting the temptation to focus on what you don't have instead of what you've already been given? When we are actively pursuing God's calling on our lives, I think we've all been tempted to focus on what someone else has or is experiencing, and feel disqualified because of what we lack. It's so easy to think, I'm not as talented, bold, smart or outgoing as she is. I can't write, speak or lead. I don't know how to do _______. I just can't.
It seems like every opportunity that comes our way is often followed by opposition. So ... how do you really know if it's God who is really telling you to keep pursuing that opportunity when you face a giant roadblock? What do you do when you've lost all confidence to do what you think He's called you to do?
Pause for a moment and think about your relationships ... your spouse, children, friends, co-workers, neighbors. You can probably name some highs and lows of each relationship because, well, humans are human. And humans mess up!
Why Should I Fast?

Why Should I Fast?

2019-05-0700:46:5513

"Why should I fast?" ... is a real question that often goes unanswered. You might hear your pastor, ministry leader or friend talk about fasting and wonder what the purpose of depriving yourself of something really is. After all, why fast when you could simply pray, right?
When hurtful circumstances happen, we wonder, "How will I ever get over this?" Lysa TerKeurst deeply understands that feeling. Since the release of her latest book, It's Not Supposed to Be This Way, she's received hundreds of emails, direct messages on social media and inquiries from people asking her how she got through one of the hardest seasons of her life.

Growing up as supply for a parent narcissist is so damaging and confusing. I'm glad you covered the developmental stunting of the narcissist-- most of my issues with my father started once I developed past his stunted age emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The relationship roles swap and a child of a narcissist quickly becomes the parent. The relationship is never what God intended it to be

So so grateful that you are covering narcissism!! Narcissism is often misused for vanity or selfishness, but it is so much more than that! My father has NPD and Borderline PD, diagnosed by our family therapist. Everything you said is spot on!

I separated from my husband because of physical, emotional, spiritual abuse for 3 years. I filed for divorce 8 months ago because I saw no healthy, Godly change. He refuses Biblical counseling and accountability with Godly leaders. But I believe that there can still be reconciliation if God intervenes and gives him a desire to love God and to honor Him. Is that crazy thinking?

It would be great to also listen to your sons perspective as we have heard from your daughters. Being the mom of 3 boys (11, 17 and 24) I will like to know what boys pay attention to and what I could do at this stage in their lives that I have not done to be intentional with them. Thank you! Vanessa.

So good! I'm looking forward to the upcoming episodes. I know counseling could do me so much good. I think I avoid it because the idea of reliving pain is overwhelming. But there is truth in what Lysa says. You have to feel it to heal it.

I have MS and went through a divorce in 2008. I didn't cope well and choose drinking to deal with my hurt. I lost everything. I was a nurse but I can no longer do that. I remarried a man that showed me extreme compassion and empathy but it wasn't always the healthiest relationship and my family never accepted him. 4 years into the marriage I ended up in a wheelchair. I remained in the wheelchair 4 almost 4 years. I know it was a miracle when I was led to a surgeon who did a surgery that gave results better than expected. I still struggled to walk years after and have a lot of pain. My husband passed away last year and its been so hard to feel desire to live. Thankfully I received wonderful PT and I am walking better and ever and I am now driving after 6 years. I pray I can become useful again. That God will use all of this for his glory. I'm not there yet. Thank you for this wonderful message.

P31 podcasts are the best! I am 70 years young and every single one speaks to my soul on any given day. I mostly listen while on the treadmill as that is my only time of uninterruption! Keep up your great ministry! I follow First 5 too! And books! 💗
