Last week I spoke to Jo from Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria about the work they do and the Puggie lives they save … not to mention the puggily ever after stories they get a front row seat too when a resuce puggie gets their wish of being adopted by a loving family. So this week, Jo kindly agreed to pop back on the PUGCAST and talk about the Christmas wishes three rescue puggies have asked SantaPaws to grant, and how you might be able to help SantaPaws grant those wishes*Please note that the audio does experience a little bit of feedback during the episode that we couldn’t edit out without affecting the conversation :(Want to skip ahead, this is where to find the topics we discussed in the PUGCAST:03:10 Cindy’s Christmas wish from SantaPaws09:30 Mercay’s Christmas wish from SantaPaws15:45 Abby’s Christmas wish from SantaPaws19:11 Give a donation as a Christmas Gift on someone’s behalfGet to know our Rescue Puggies better:Cindy - https://www.pugrescue.org.au/adopt-cindy/Mercay - https://www.pugrescue.org.au/adopt-mercay/Abby - https://www.instagram.com/p/DBQywBlT60R/Want to learn more about Pug Rescue and Adoption Victori:Adoption Process: https://www.pugrescue.org.au/adoption/Donation Options: https://www.pugrescue.org.au/donations/Website: www.pugrescue.org.au Facebook: www.facebook.com/PugRescueVicInstagram: www.instagram.com/pugrescuevicIf you haven’t already, please subscribe to the PUGCAST so you don’t miss out on the next Episode and leave us a review; it only takes a couple of seconds to give us a 5-star review and it goes a long way to helping other Pug-Pawrents find us.Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter at https://bit.ly/thepuglifeshow, so you get advance notice of our next episode and if you've got any questions or want to tell us how much you loved the Episode then let me know over at our Facebook Group - The Pug Life Show PUGCAST (https://bit.ly/PugLifeShowGrumble) where Crazy Pug Pawrents meet to talk all things pug.
Many years ago, when I rescued my first pug Winston a.k.a Fatdog through a local Vet who was doing everything they could to save the life of a little black pug whose only crime was that his family no longer wanted him and thought it was better to ‘put him down’ than find a loving home, did I realise just how naive I was about the world of pugs.Which is why today’s episode is so important to me – today I’m talking to Joanna from Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria, a volunteer community foster care network that rehabilitates Pugs, and Frenchies when the need arises, so that they find their fur-ever loving family and to never have to face the possibility of being ‘put down’ because their owners don’t want to help them find a loving home.Want to skip ahead, this is where to find the topics we discussed in the PUGCAST:03:00 Tell us about yourself and your fur-family05:30 When did Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria start11:05 Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria’s Philosophy15:45 How do you pay for all of the work you do?20:15 What is the difference between a rescue, a pound and a shelter?22:30 Why is Pug Rescue and Adoption Victoria a community foster care network?27:55 Advice on getting a Pug for Christmas30:45 Why Pug/family matching is so important34:35 Adoption process41:40 How can you help Pug Rescue and Adoption VictoriaWant to learn more or become a member:Website: www.pugrescue.org.au Facebook: www.facebook.com/PugRescueVicInstagram: www.instagram.com/pugrescuevicIf you haven’t already, please subscribe to the PUGCAST so you don’t miss out on the next Episode and leave us a review; it only takes a couple of seconds to give us a 5-star review and it goes a long way to helping other Pug-Pawrents find us.Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter at https://bit.ly/thepuglifeshow, so you get advance notice of our next episode and if you've got any questions or want to tell us how much you loved the Episode then let me know over at our Facebook Group - The Pug Life Show PUGCAST (https://bit.ly/PugLifeShowGrumble) where Crazy Pug Pawrents meet to talk all things pug.
Today I am talking to Sarah, the President of the Pet Professionals Guild Australia, about the services they provide the Fur-pawrent community and why they do it.Now I know the name sounds very officious and I would understand you thinking that today’s conversation might be a little dry, but I’m telling you it’s neither; it’s fascinating and very informative. Not only is the PPGA a trusted location to find Pet Professionals who believe in and embody force free, humane training and pet care methods, they are also a huge repository of information about the many baffling things our Pugs/Pets do that needs explaining in a simple easily digestible way that is also fact checked which we know is not always the case with other websites.Want to skip ahead, this is where to find the topics we discussed in the PUGCAST:01:58 How did I find the PPGA?03:39 Meet Sarah the PPGA President and her fur-family04:40 How did the PPGA start and how does it serve the Pet Community?09:35 Who gives the Pet Owners webinars and what are their qualifications?11:17 The ‘Advice for Pet Owners’ resource16:50 Can you contact an expert for advice?17:30 The Pet Professional Directory – Nation-wide coverage – what is included and what isn’t?20:20 The Pet Owner Membership benefits21:40 PPGA Sponsorship Programs – anyone interested in becoming a Pet Professional can apply for a scholarship27:30 Segue - There is such a thing as ‘cat training’?30:05 How often does the PPGA update its website listings?32:20 Who writes the website articles and are they ‘peer reviewed’?34:30 Events that you can meet PPGA staff in person53:00 Can anyone join the PPGA?41:48 Where can we find the PPGA?Want to learn more or become a member:Website: https://www.ppgaustralia.net.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PetprofessionalguildAusInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/petprofessionalguildaus/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/pet-professional-guild-australia/If you haven’t already, please subscribe to the PUGCAST so you don’t miss out on the next Episode and leave us a review; it only takes a couple of seconds to give us a 5-star review and it goes a long way to helping other Pug-Pawrents find us.Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter at https://bit.ly/thepuglifeshow, so you get advance notice of our next episode and if you've got any questions or want to tell us how much you loved the Episode then let me know over at our Facebook Group - The Pug Life Show PUGCAST (https://bit.ly/PugLifeShowGrumble) where Crazy Pug Pawrents meet to talk all things pug.

There is a saying that goes “everyone has a book inside of them” and who knew that included Pugs! Now it’s not often I get to meet a multi-talented Pug such as PD the Pug; pug-author and all round cute snaggle-toothed boy pug, but thankfully he agreed to come on the Show to not only talk about himself and his pawsomeness (or should I say, have his Pug-mom Marilee talk about his pawsomeness), but to also talk about his books – the fourth having been released this year and my personal favourite – ‘A Star is Born!; PD the Pug on the Silver Screen. In this episode I’ll cover:02:42 What inspired you to become a Pug-Pawrent?07:08 Tell us a little bit about yourself and PD; how did you meet??24:54 Describe PD’s Pawsonality and share the naughty traits that you love the most and might not be in his books35:07 Tell us all about PD’s writing career and his four books – what inspired him to become an author noting the many careers he tried in Book 3 ‘Working like a …Dog’.43:50 Are we ever going to meet PD’s ‘secret fawn girl pug crush’?49:26 We really want to know about PD’s ‘under the stairs house’ and his ‘kitchen bench nook’55:34 Tell us about PD’s recent collaboration with the Rainbow Bridge Hospice57:14 How can our listeners find PD the Pug and his books? If you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service. You can either quickly hit the 5 stars if you're busy, or if you have a few extra minutes hit 5 stars and tell us what you think.By leaving us a review, not only will we know what you like or not like about the Show, other Puggies will be able to find us more easily and they can join in on the fun as well, YEAH!Don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletter at https://bit.ly/thepuglifeshow, so you get advance notice of our next episode and if you've got any questions or want to tell us how much you loved the Episode then let me know over at our Facebook Group "Livin' the Pug Life" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/livinthepuglife/) where Crazy Pug Pawrents meet to talk all things pug.
Our episode today is one that I have wanted to do for some time now because I know so little about essential oils, but I love having them in my life. I love burning scented candles in my office and my home, I love a relaxing bath with some relaxing salts and an occasional visit from Rosie and Kenji checking up on me to make sure I haven’t forgotten them or dinner time, and I love running my diffuser when I don’t have a candle. The challenge is that I know enough about essential oils to know that some are not good for our furry fur-ends, but not enough to know what is good, what is bad and what combination is best for me and the Puggies … so you can see why I asked Libby to join me on the Show to dispel the myth, provide the fact and even give me a little advice about that little thing called anxiety which we all know Kenji suffers from.In this episode I’ll cover:03:00 Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fur-family05:02 What inspired you to learn more about essential oils specifically for pets?05:57 What are the “don’t” with essential oils and why?13:59 Talk us through the oils that are safe for Pugs and what can they do for them?22:48 Explain the different methods of application – diffuser, petting, ear tipping or paws.33:24 Listener offer36:22 How can our listeners find you?Libby has provided us with a special link that you can use to purchase oils for your Pug at a reduced price and get access to ongoing support and education, YEAH! I would understand if you thought to yourself on seeing the title of this PUGCAST, what would a Puggie need with a treadmill especially when I titled it “What would a Puggie need with a treadmill?”. However, when I came across this treadmill earlier this year, it made me think of my first Pug Louis, aka Fatdog and how he could have benefitted from a treadmill like this when we needed to get his weight down.In this episode I’ll cover:01:30 What would a Puggie need with a treadmill?03:39 Tell us a little bit about yourself and 04:58 What was the inspiration?06:07 Describe the treadmills and why it compliments a puggie walk17:02 Can it be used outside?20:53 What treadmill would you recommend for a Pug?22:44 Where can we find Chase Pro TreadmillsWant to know more about Chase Pro Treadmills, then you can find them here:Website https://www.chase-pro.com/Facebook @chaseprodogtreadmillsInstagram @chaseprodogtreadmillsYouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaLH6ogHQGnZx8gDCqtm8aAIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.
Our last episode was an interview with Dr Dennis Wormald who wrote a book called ‘A Dedication to Difficult Dogs; A heartwarming tale shedding light on Canine Mental Health’ and if you haven’t listened to it yet, I highly recommend you do before listening to this episode. Why you might ask? well in this episode I’m going to share with you how I have fared so far, using the knowledge I have gained from reading the book and talking to Dr Dennis on the PUGCAST, so you get a first-hand account of putting some of the lessons into practice and seeing/hearing my results so far so you can judge for yourself if you’d like to purchase the book and put it into practice yourself. In this episode I’ll cover:03:05 What I loved about the book05:35 What happened during a 'Big Dog' encounter10:10 What I did differently after the 'Big Dog' encounter noting I had read the book12:40 Introducing a Rescue Puggie to my home20:30 Working with a Blind Rescue Pug with my new knowledgeWant to know more about Canine Mental Health, then you can find the Dr Dennis and purchase his book here:Website https://www.abadog.com/dennisFacebook @abadog.com.auYouTube @abadogX (Twitter) @denniswormaldPLUS: you can listen to his PUGCAST episode (S3 EP05 Shedding light on Canine Mental Health) on your favourite POGCAST Host, such as Apple PODCAST2024 MELBOURNE PUGOWEEN - PUG RESCUE MONSTER BALL TICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/.../melbourne-pugoween-2024...If you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.
It’s not often that I gush about a book of any kind, so when I do come across a book that I not only enjoy reading but I also get a lot out of when it comes to understanding my Puggies I gush to everyone, and then I ask for the author to come onto the Pug Life Show so we can talk about it in detail.Dr Dennis Wormald’s book ‘A Dedication to Difficult Dogs; A heartwarming tale shedding light on Canine Mental Health’ is a must read for every Pug-Pawrent out there. It doesn’t matter if your Pug has anxiety or not, this book helped me understand what might be going on in Rosie and Kenji’s heads (not to mention the rescue Puggies I care for) on a daily basis and thanks to that, I feel like I’m a better Pug-mom for it.In this episode I’ll cover:07:40 Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fur-family.09:20 What inspired you to focus on dog mental health and then write a book about it?16:30 Tell me about anthropomorphism - explain what it is and how it affects our relationship with our Pugs.29:00 Why is it so important for us as Pug Pawrents to learn how to interpret our Pugs behaviour, and where do we get it wrong?44:40 Talk about a Pugs incredible sense of smell52:20 Let’s talk about emotional learning vs operant learning/punishment – why is one better than the other and why is it so important to learn the difference62:50 How can our listeners find you?Want to know more about Canine Mental Health, then you can find them here:Website https://www.abadog.com/dennisFacebook @abadog.com.auYouTube @abadogX (Twitter) @denniswormaldIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.
This conversation was one that I wished I had had 18-months ago when Charles passed – to be able to have Charles at home with us as we said goodbye to him wouldn’t have made the decision any easier, but it would have made the process so much more private. I’m not saying that the process at a Vet isn’t compassionate or thoughtful, but not having to walk out into a waiting room full of heathy dogs with my cheeks still wet from crying to pay the final bill is a much better way to start the grieving process.I know that when the time comes, I will be giving Rosie and Kenji the opportunity to say goodbye from the comfort of our home, and I think you will be considering it too once you listen to what Dr Tom Milton from ‘The Kindest Goodbye’ shares in the episode. In this episode I’ll cover:03:05 Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fur-family04:40 What inspired you to start The Kindest Goodbye? 12:00 The process16:20 Without sounding crass, what is the best part about The Kindest Goodbye?20:38 What is the difference between your service and going to a Vet/funeral home?27:20 Can you talk us through your ‘Quality of Life’ scale38:10 Where are you located38:50 What is next for your business that our listeners need to be aware of, if relevant?41:00 How can our listeners find you?Want to know more about The Kindest Goodbye, then you can find them here:Website https://www.thekindestgoodbye.com.auFacebook @thekindestgoodbyeInstagram @thekindestgoodbyeIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.
Have you ever wondered what your Puggie’s name says about you or your Puggie Pawrent friend? Well let me tell you, I asked myself that question after my conversation with Gurvinder about Espresso and Martini, two fabulous Puggie names, and I ended up down a rabbit hole reading a multitude of articles (yes I’m not the only one who has thought about this apparently) and I thought I would share some of the more interesting things I discovered in my reading journey about what is in a Puggies name.In this episode I’ll cover:05:05 A little bit of history of pet names06:40 An interesting French naming convention for dogs08:40 What does your Pets name say about you17:15 Popular pet names of 2024Articles referenced in the PUGCAST:https://www.forbes.com/2010/02/25/dog-name-owners-lifestyle-what-your-dogs-name-says-about-you_slide.htmlhttps://archcreekanimalclinic.com/pet-names/https://slate.com/life/2024/05/dog-baby-names-boy-girl-best-pets.htmlhttps://www.thedodo.com/amphtml/dogs-name-says-about-you-1299743736.htmlhttps://au.news.yahoo.com/obsessed-strange-rule-dog-names-153257089.htmlIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.
It’s our first Pug interview for 2024 and it’s a PAWSOME one; how could you not love it when we’re talking to pugs with names that said in quick succession mean a tasty ‘adults only’ drink …. Espresso Martini! I can only imagine how much fun Gurvinder, their Pug-mom has calling their names when they’re running a amok at WhittlePug.I think you’re going to love getting to know how Martini and Espresso got their names, and I think you’ll also be very interested to hear all about Espresso’s IVDD and how Gurvinder is managing it, so make sure that you listen all the way to the end.In this episode I’ll cover:01:56 How did Espresso and Martini get their names30:05 What is IVDD and how are you managing37:50 What inspired you to become a Pug-mom46:09 What is Artsy Brown Lady and who is the Pug on the front of the ‘Pug Life’ t-shirt51:15 How can our listeners find youWant to know more about Artsy Brown Lady or Espresso and Martini, then you can find them here: Instagram @espressomartinithepugsWebsite https://www.artsybrownlady.com/shopFacebook @artsybrownladyInstagram @artsybrownladyPinterest @artsybrownladyIf you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.
So, at the end of 2023, Rosie, Kenji and I had big plans for 2024 including a pugtastic season for the Pug Life Show … then the Pug Life happened, and we find ourselves curly tail deep in family and puggie emergencies (everyone is ok now so breathe a sigh of relief!) and we had started to work on our first Pug-specific clothing line and we all of a sudden found ourselves with no time left to keep in touch regularly on our socials or work on the PUGCAST – horrific I know!I promise you that we slowly chipped away at our to do list and we found some amazing Hooman’s and Puggies to invite onto the Show this year, and although the year is half over, we’re going to deliver 12 episodes as planned at the end of 2023. That means you get a new PUGCAST in your inbox every two weeks! That’s right, we’re releasing a new PUGCAST episode on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month and we know that you’re going to love the line-up we have panned.
So, recently I had the pleasure of discovering Melbourne’s first and only Indoor Dog Park with Rosie, Kenji and their Foster Sister and Brother Roxie and Wally, and boy did we have a great time! I’m not sure I saw their bodies move for the rest of the day when we finally got home they were so PUGGERED but it is a testament to the work that Charnelle has put into creating this amazing space for our fur-children.So if you’re looking for a safe alternative to an outdoor dog park that has separate play areas for small and large dogs … not to mention the fact that you don’t have to worry about rain, wind or hail, then I think today’s PUGCAST might be just what you’re looking for this winter. In this episode I’ll cover:02:22 Tell us about yourself and your fur-family07:30 12-year-old Dog-mum12:24 How her puppies got their names16:38 What was the inspiration for Bark Park21:25 Describe the play areas of Bark Park24:41 Why have a café at bark Park26:40 The Bark Park play equipment31:51 Where can we find Bark Park?32:20 Coming events at Bark ParkWant to know more about Bark Park, then you can find them here:Website https://www.barkpark.com.au/Facebook @barkparkplaycentreInstagram @barkpark_Ticktok @barkpark_If you liked the episode, or if you think it'll be useful for someone else, please leave a review on your PODCAST streaming service.
