Unbeknowst to many, the symptoms of menopause are far beyond just the infamous hot flushes. The symptoms can be debilitating, affecting work performance and even forcing thousands of women to leave their jobs. On this episode, Caroline Donaghue and Priya Rawal welcome Emma Cariaga, a powerhouse woman of the UK property industry and Head of Residential at British Land and Joint Head of the £5.6 billion Canada Water master plan project.The eldest in a single parent family, Emma was inspired to be strong, independent, hardworking after seeing her mother work long hours as an interior designer. Unbeknownst to her at the time, this would later become the introduction into the design side of the property industry. She went on to study a degree in town planning at UCL and was invited to work at Crest Nicholson & Barratt Development plc in her third year at university, joining the team and she went on to become the youngest Director at Barratt.After 10 years, Emma set her sights on working on bigger developments that created places multi-purposes buildings. In 2007, she joined Land Securities (now Landsec) where she delivered a number of Central London developments including Wellington House, Kings Gate and the Zig Zag building in Victoria before transitioning to British Land. On this episode, Caroline Donaghue and Priya Rawal welcome one of the best chefs of our generation, being the youngest British chef to hold two Michelin stars, owner of a chain of restaurants Muse, Tom's Kitchen, The Pawn, Pots, Pans & Boards and ambassador of Only a Pavement Away charity, Tom Aikens.Born into a foodie family in Norfolk, Tom grew up in a house that had a respect for fresh, seasonal ingredients and at age 11, Tom decided that he wanted to become a chef. After working in several kitchens working with the likes of Pierre Koffmann at La Tante Claire, Philip Britten at The Capital, Richard Neat at Pied à Terre to name afew, he was finally offered the role of Head Chef and Co-Owner of Pied à Terre. Under his leadership, he landed the restaurant another Michellin star making him the youngest chef to earn Michellin star status at only 26 years old. Pivoting to private chef, Tom worked for the Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber, Anushka Hepo and Carole Bamford. He later helped Carole with the opening of Daylesford Organic, developing a large range of organic products for Daylesford Farm Organic Shop and Wootton Organic.Tom later took the leap to open his own restaurants both in the UK and globally, starting with Tom Aikens Restaurant in 2003 (which received a Michelin Star in its first year of opening in 2004 and the ‘Rising-Two-Star’ status and 5 AA Rosettes in 2008), Tom's Kitchen in 2006, The Pawn in Hong Kong, Pots, Pans & Boards in Dubai and recently, The Muse in London which pays homage to all the inspirations different people, places, time and travels Tom has experienced.Tom has also written multiple cook books, the most notable of which was the Charity Cookbook which was launched with charity Only a Pavement Away as a response to help the increased homelessness caused by the 2020 pandemic. Simon is a prominent former England rugby union player, current Head of Sustainable Technology Partnerships for NS2, and President of charity, Love of the Game.Simon had an idyllic childhood in Nairobi until his family had to flee from a volatile political election, his family suddenly moved to Gainsborough for a short while before relocating to Madrid. These sudden changes in his youth prepared Simon for an equally storied career. At age 15, Simon started his career in rugby and he maintained a successful career in professional rugby, during which he played for the biggest teams in rugby: Bristol, London Wasps and Toulon. He was part of the winning World Cup team in 2003, winning 71 caps for England between 1996 and 2011 and 2 for the British & Irish Lions.
