We bet you didn't expect to wake up today and learn that back in 2019 Kentucky Fried Chicken released an ACTUAL, fully playable dating sim. It's called I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin' Good Dating Simulator, and in the spirit of our newly remastered theme of FeBOOary we decided to see if we could get all up in The Colonel's bucket. This episode recounts two journeys through a cooking school under the tutelage of a professor dog named Sprinkles, while competing to earn the love and respect of Colonel Sanders himself. Find out if this blatant branded content is worth playing, or if it's Finger Lickin' Bad!Watch our gameplay segments and full video episodes over on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/theretrogradepodcastGet monthly bonus episodes by joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theretrogradepodcastJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikeyTikTok: @RetrogradePodOr on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcast Or visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/Questions, Comments, and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comShow Notes: https://www.theretrogradepod.com/episodes/i-love-you-colonel-sanders-kfc-dating-sim-review
Have you finally had enough of your boring old birth family? Don't you think it's time to shake things up a bit? Well, we do too! This week we draft ourselves a brand new family consisting of ONLY video game characters. Will we ask for a dad as tough as Kratos, or a kid as sweet as Kirby? We start from the ground up and choose a father, partner, child, sibling, and two wild cards (because what family doesn't have a couple of those?). Plus: our progress on God of War: Ragnarok, and our biggest gaming regrets. Warning: this one gets sloppy. Let's have another round (of Goldeneye 007), D-Pads! This week we aim to answer the age old question: are we better at gaming when we're drunk, or sober? And what better game to test this out on than one of the greatest multiplayer experiences of all time: Goldeneye 64!After catching ourselves up on our recent gaming habits, including Andrew's new obsession with Mario Kart 8, and Mikey's first foray into God of War: Ragnarok, we face off in a sober best 2 out of 3 matchup in Goldeneye before drinking our faces off, and trying it out all over again after we've had some time to get... loose. We may have started this podcast as an excuse to revisit retro games, but one game has loomed over our conversations almost every single month: Overwatch. With Overwatch 2 entering our lives a few months ago, we've had plenty of time to let the changes sink in, and reminisce over some of the elements of Overwatch 1 which we find ourselves missing. Given the prominence of Overwatch in our lives, we wanted to spend a full episode at the end of the year looking back on the game we've been dumping countless hours into since 2016. How does Overwatch 2 compare to Overwatch 1? What are some of the changes we like or dislike the most? How much longer do we imagine we'll play this game? Let us know your thoughts, and Happy New Year!Watch our gameplay segments over on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/theretrogradepodcastGet monthly bonus episodes by joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theretrogradepodcastJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikeyTikTok: @RetrogradePodOr on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcast Or visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/Questions, Comments, and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comShow Notes: https://www.theretrogradepod.com/episodes/overwatch-retrospective-overwatch-1-vs-overwatch-2
Hakuna Matata, everyone! This week we decided to venture back to Pride Rock to revisit one of our favourite movie based games of all time: The Lion King on the Sega Genesis! It's up there as one of the most brilliant adaptations of an animated movie, but it's also notoriously difficult. Will our memory serve us correct, or is this game not worth keeping inside the circle of life? Before pouncing on the game, we take some time to talk about our anticipation of High on Life, the brilliance of God of War: Ragnarok, and our most embarrassing gaming icons in Overwatch 2!Watch our gameplay segments over on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/theretrogradepodcastGet monthly bonus episodes by joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theretrogradepodcastJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikeyTikTok: @RetrogradePodOr on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcast Or visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/Questions, Comments, and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comShow Notes: https://www.theretrogradepod.com/episodes/the-lion-king-sega-genesis-review

This Bounding Box Software title has been in early access for about 2 years, but finally received an official release and is available now on Xbox Gamepass and Steam! Before finding out whether this modern reimagination of first person classics like Doom, Duke Nukem, and Quake is the game we've always wanted, we talk about some of the initial reviews of God of War: Ragnarok, the most popular games we HAVEN'T liked, and question whether variety in games is always a good thing. This week we continue Retrograve with a game that certainly isn't retro, but is most definitely going to get your skin crawling. It's The Mortuary Assistant! It was developed by the one man team consisting of Brian Clarke and Brian Clarke only over at DarkStone Digital, and let us be the first to tell you: it worked on us. But does the sheer terror that this game instills in us mean that it's necessarily a GOOD GAME? We aim to find that out. 30 years ago the world of video games was changed forever when Ed Boon and Jon Tobias' ground shaking fighting game Mortal Kombat first made its way to arcades. If you think living through 2020-2022 was an odd experience, wait until you go back to 1997 to play Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee! Believe it or not, this year marks the 25th anniversary of this iconic game and the flagship title from Lorne Lanning's legendary development studio Oddworld Inhabitants. We decided to dust off this classic to find out whether Abe and his friends are still as wildly enjoyable as the day we first met them. What's the best game about living Unicycles that you've ever played? If that question captured your interest, you may want to join us this week as we look back at Uniracers by DMA Design--the company which would eventually become Rockstar North!Released in Europe as Unirally, this obscure unicycle stunt racer attained "cult classic" status when its release was jeopardized by a lawsuit brought on by Pixar. We aim to find out if this title deserved more attention, or if it was better off left in the realm of the obscure. Before getting into Uniracers, we catch up on some of our recent gaming habits by questioning the release of Madden 23, and giving our thoughts on the remaster of The Last of Us.Remember you can catch video of our gameplay segments AND monthly bonus episodes by joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theretrogradepodcastWatch us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRkbglFPa8g_Jnhxmw_wiGgJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikeyOr on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcast Or visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/Questions, Comments, and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comShow Notes: https://www.theretrogradepod.com/episodes/uniracers-unirally-review-super-nintendo
This week we're changing things up with an in depth look at a modern game: Stray on the PS5!It's BlueTwelve Studio's first game, and they came out of the gate with an incredibly unique take on a platformer/adventure game. But is the unique concept enough to bring this game into the realm of the greats? Join us as we run through the entire story, giving our impressions and a final review before answering some listener questions about the game. Buckle up, D-Pads! We're about to demolish, incinerate, and bulldoze a path of destruction through Blast Corps on the N64!It was Rare's first of MANY successful releases developed from the ground up exclusively for the N64, and it kicked off a partnership between the two companies which seemed unbreakable until a surprise purchase of Rare by Microsoft in 2002. But while this game shattered our expectations in 1997, does it still stand strong 25 years later? Before strapping in, we give our impressions on Stray, catch up on progress with The Outer Wilds and Ghost of Tsushima, and talk about the impact of subscription services on the gaming industry. This week we take a swift left turn through a pane of glass and ride back to a time 20 years ago when we were enjoying Stuntman on the Playstation 2! It was a game that sort of came and went, but in the process it left a few cult followers in its dust. Well, this week we dust off the classic Reflections Interactive game and figure out whether it's still worth playing 20 years later! But before we get behind the wheel we talk about some of our favourite video game rentals of all time, and catch up on our progress through Ghost of Tsushima, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Outer Wilds.Remember you can catch video of our gameplay segments AND monthly bonus episodes by joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theretrogradepodcastWatch us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRkbglFPa8g_Jnhxmw_wiGgJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikeyOr on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcast Or visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/E-mails and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comhttps://www.theretrogradepod.com/episodes/stuntman-ps2-20th-anniversary-review
This week, your prime directives include celebrating Robocop's 35th Anniversary with a look back at the classic NES tie in from 1988! Conveniently, this is coming right on the heels of the new trailer for Robocop: Rogue City! It's one of the most iconic action franchises from the 1980s, and as such it spawned a slew of video game tie ins. Surprisingly, MOST of those games were actually very well received! But can the same be said for fans of Officer Alex James Murphy who want to relive the excitement in the modern day? Before we're set loose on the streets of Detroit, we catch up on our PS Plus gaming with a look at Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, The Overwatch 2 Beta, and more! Some references for this episode were found in the following articles: https://www.eurogamer.net/the-making-of-robocophttps://gamerant.com/robocop-video-games-history-background/Remember you can catch video of our gameplaysegments AND monthly bonus episodes by joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theretrogradepodcastWatch us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRkbglFPa8g_Jnhxmw_wiGgJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikeyOr on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcast Or visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/E-mails and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comhttps://www.theretrogradepod.com/episodes/donkey-kong-jr-40th-anniversary-review
It's time to hang from vines as we vilify Mario and save Donkey Kong in our Donkey Kong Jr. 40th Anniversary Retrospective! It's not a game either of us had much experience with as kids, but in spite of that it has retained a cult following for its varied levels, departure from the usual Arcade formula, and prominence as the second game in the Donkey Kong franchise. Before setting off to save our dad, we do a deep dive on the fascinating development and history of Donkey Kong Jr, and catch up on our recent gaming habits!Happy 40th Anniversary Donkey Kong Jr.!
To Infinity, and Beyond! This week we celebrate the launch of Lightyear with a look back at one of the most underrated licensed video games of all time: Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue on the Playstation 1!It also released on the N64 and Dreamcast, but this is widely viewed as the best version. Before taking to Andy's living room to figure out whether or not this game holds up against the likes of modern games, we take some time to discuss our favourite Disney/Pixar games, and catch the listeners up on what we've been playing recently!Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theretrogradepodcastWatch us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRkbglFPa8g_Jnhxmw_wiGgJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikey Or on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcast Or visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/E-mails and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comtheretrogradepod.com/episodes/toy-story-2-buzz-lightyear-to-the-rescue-retro-review
Strap in, cadets, because this week we celebrate the release of Top Gun: Maverick with a look back at Top Gun: The Second Mission on NES!Believe it or not, the first Top Gun movie spawned over a dozen video games, most of which weren't actually all that great! We're not sure whether or not that'll come as a surprise to anyone, but we wanted to see how a flight combat game would hold up on an 8 bit console. Before taking off we catch up on Disco Elysium, give some initial impressions on Soundfall, and continue talking about Mikey's giant Steam Deck!Watch us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRkbglFPa8g_Jnhxmw_wiGgJoin us on Twitter: @RetrogradePod, @RetrogradeAndy, @RetrogradeMikeyOr on Instagram: @theretrogradepodcastOr visit our website at www.theretrogradepod.com/E-mails and business inquiries can be sent to theretrogradepodcast@gmail.comtheretrogradepod.com/episodes/Top-Gun-2-The-Second-Mission-Retro-Review

As Sonic the Hedgehog 2 speeds into theatres, we figured we'd take the chance to LOOP back to Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive!Way back in this podcast's history we revisited Sonic 1, and our feelings were somewhat mixed. Will the addition of the spin dash, faster speeds, and the loveable sidekick Miles "Tails" Prower be enough to make this a bona fide classic? Our knuckles are clenched as we aim to find out!But before we set foot in Emerald Hill Zone, we take some time to catch up on MLB The Show 22, Elden Ring, and talk about the incredible development cycle that went into Sonic 2.
