This week on The Revolutionized Mind, I’m joined by Toronto-based comedian, Ryan Zeitz. In this episode, Ryan opens up about his own mental health journey and how it led him to discover comedy as both an outlet and a career. Living with Bipolar Disorder and having experienced suicidal ideation in the past, Ryan blends humour and honesty when it comes to talking about mental health. He talks about what it’s like to bring heavy, personal topics to the stage in a way that not only gets people laughing but also gets them thinking. Through comedy, Ryan is helping to start important conversations, break down stigma, and make mental health feel more accessible and relatable for everyone. We discuss how humour can help us cope during difficult times, connect with others in a deeper way, and remind us that we’re not alone in the struggles we face. Ryan also shares what it’s been like building a career in this space and how he hopes his work continues to impact others. Trigger warning: this episode talks about suicide. S2, E16: Grief in the Milestones: What People Don’t Talk About (with Hailey Hechtman)

This week on The Revolutionized Mind, we are joined by the wonderful Hailey Hechtman. We usually think of grief as something that comes with endings, such as death, breakups, or major loss. But we often overlook the grief that shows up in new beginnings. Inspired by Hailey’s article, “When Grief Goes Good”, we unpack how grief can quietly live in our moments of growth, success, and transformation, even when things seem to be going really well. For example, when we start a new job or move to a new city, we typically leave behind parts of ourselves or things that we love, but we aren’t always given the space to express those grievances. In this episode, we talk about what it means to hold joy and sadness at the same time, how to let go of old identities without shame, and why it’s so important to acknowledge the grief that comes with starting something new. We also discuss different ways to foster deeper dialogue around these feelings so that we can both strengthen our relationships and learn to grow alongside heavier emotions. This is an episode for anyone in transition, moving through change, or learning to let go. Grief doesn’t have to be something we hide - it can actually be a sign that we’re growing. Thanks so much for tuning in today! S2, E14: Anxiety in the Classroom - A Student’s Perspective (with Anna-Lisa Barrett)

This week on TRM, we are joined by mental health advocate and speaker, Anna-Lisa Barrett. In this episode, Anna-Lisa opens up about her journey with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and the pivotal moments that shaped her relationship with her diagnosis and how she talked about it. From a Grade 5 speech on anxiety that was silenced by a teacher, to the seven years she spent hiding her struggles, Anna-Lisa reflects on the lasting impact of being dismissed in a space where she should have been supported. We dive into the crucial role educators play in shaping how young people experience and talk about mental health. Anna-Lisa shares how that early experience of being held back out of fear led her to internalize shame, and how finally being given the space to open up about it again in Grade 12 changed her life. That moment of empowerment encouraged her to get involved in advocacy, community, and other mental health initiatives that have continued to fuel her purpose. We also discuss some systemic changes needed in the education field and emphasize the responsibility schools and teachers hold in fostering safe, inclusive environments for students. This is a must-listen for educators, students, and anyone who has ever felt misunderstood in their mental health journey. Thanks so much for tuning in today! S2, E13: Making it Out and Giving Back (with Deluxson Yogarajah)

This week on The Revolutionized Mind, we’re joined by Deluxson Yogarajah, a community advocate, future psychotherapist, and someone who’s rewriting the narrative for himself and others. Growing up in Jane and Finch, Delux faced the weight of responsibility from a young age. With limited resources and mental health rarely discussed, he found himself having to make money to support his family. He got involved with the justice system and was forced to navigate a lengthy court case as he was pushing himself through university. It wasn’t until he began learning about mental health that things started to shift. For the first time, he was able to reflect on his pain and move towards healing. That turning point sparked a passion that would lead him to study psychotherapy and dedicate his life to helping others. Now, Delux is giving back to the very community that shaped him - mentoring youth, creating opportunities, and using his story to show what’s possible. This is a powerful conversation about struggle, survival, self-awareness, and the impact of showing up for others once you’ve learned how to show up for yourself. Thanks so much for tuning in today!
