Hey everyone! In honour of my best friend Carlea's birthday today, I'm releasing this super fun podcast episode where we chat about turning 25. Come hang out with us as we sip some espresso martinis and talk about the pressures that come along with being this age, the confusion we have about what we should be doing next, and the impacts that COVID has had on our current life stage. We also answer some deep questions about ourselves and each other, so you will really get to know Carlea and me as a friendship today. This conversation is super chill, funny (I think), and hopefully relatable for anyone else who is feeling similar things about being in their mid-20s. Be sure to follow me on social media @therevolutionizedmind, and don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe to the show on whatever platform you're listening on! P.S. I am so sorry about the sounds you will hear as we pass the microphone back and forth. I only own one mic and it was very difficult to edit those noises out, but hopefully it's not too distracting!! This episode is also available on YouTube!
Heyyooo! It's been a while since we got to sit down and chat. Is it just me or have the last few months felt really weird for you too? I have just been feeling super stuck in my environment lately and I was starting to notice that it was affecting my mental health. So, I decided to make a big life change: I'm back at Western University for the semester! And, more importantly, I'm playing soccer here! This was a super random and last-minute decision for me as I had no intentions of ever returning to this level of sport after I graduated, but it feels so good to be back! In this episode, I explain what this "stuck" feeling looked like for me, how and why I made the decision to come back to play, and what I hope to get out of this next chapter of my life. It's been a wild last couple of weeks but I am so excited to bring you all along this new journey. Be sure to follow me on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook @therevolutionizedmind, and don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe to the show on whatever platform you're listening on! P.S. This week on TRM, we are joined by the Founder of Step by Step Tours, Erica Romaniuk! Erica graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson) and was very grateful to find a job in her field post-grad. However, this job brought on lots of anxiety, feelings of isolation, and overall poor mental well-being. This forced her to reassess what she wanted to do with her life. Her identity was strongly tied to being a proud woman in STEM and it was very difficult to walk away from that. So, she decided to start going to therapy and took some time to do lots of honest self-reflection. Erica thought long and hard about what truly makes her happy, what she’s passionate about, and how she could combine these things with her professional life. And then, Step by Step Tours was born! Erica tells us all about what it was like to leave her job in engineering and take a chance on her new business. This really is an inspiring conversation to listen to and I hope it can help someone else out there! Be sure to follow us on social media @therevolutionizedmind & @stepbystep.tours, and don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe to the show on whatever platform you're listening on! The Revolutionized Mind Podcast is BACK this week with the one and only, Benji Arhen! In this episode, Ben tells us all about his journey as an athlete, explains how we can use sport as a tool in our lives, and emphasizes the importance of building mental toughness. Born and raised in Ghana, Benji didn’t actually start playing football until his late high school years. Very quickly, he made Team Ontario and got scouted by Queens University, resulting in many transitions: physically, mentally, and emotionally. After an extremely successful varsity career and obtaining a Masters Degree, Benji decided to stay involved by coaching, mentoring, and inspiring youth, both in and outside of sport. This episode is filled with an incredible amount of passion and will surely impact you in some small way. Be sure to follow us on social media @therevolutionizedmind & @benjiisworld_, and don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe to the show on whatever platform you're listening on! Let's start by taking a big deep breath together! This week, we are joined by mental health advocate and social work student, Mary Tompros. Mary lives with a chronic hallucination, and in this episode, she tells us all about how it started, how she learned to adapt, and just generally what it feels like to never be alone. She shares some of the coping skills that therapy has given her, the different perspectives she’s gained, and just how much she’s grown through the challenging times. Mary also addresses the stigma, emphasizing that people who experience psychosis ARE NOT DANGEROUS. There is a big misconception about having hallucinations, and Mary uses her platform to show the true realities of living with a complex mental illness, including the good times and the bad. I’m so grateful that I got the chance to connect with Mary and learn more about her story. This conversation is extremely informative and deep, in a funny and relatable way. Trigger warning: this episode discusses the topic of suicide, so please check in with yourself before consuming this content. Additionally, I give a brief update about my upcoming break from the podcast! I'm doing okay, I just need some time to breathe, so I will be taking a break from releasing episodes until further notice. This week on TRM, we are joined by Health Coach and Yoga Therapist, Aimee Huffman. In this episode, Aimee tells us all about yoga therapy. We discuss what it is, how it can be used, and what the benefits are. She explains how “yoga as therapy” can be used as a tool to explore your body, take care of your mental health, and balance your nervous system. This week on TRM, we are joined by Mindset Coach and Entrepreneur, Kevin Boucher! In this episode, Kevin talks about how his mental health journey influenced his coaching career. After running two successful businesses and “having everything”, he found himself in a really dark headspace where he didn’t know what to do next. His relationships were suffering, he couldn’t identify his purpose in the world, and he started asking himself some really big questions. After going through a health scare and spending time alone throughout the pandemic, he was introduced to the world of coaching and finally started to feel motivated again. He was able to improve his own mindset and begin helping others to do the same. Kevin’s story highlights the true power of vulnerability, authenticity, and self-love. This conversation is super inspiring and relatable, and I hope there's a thing or two that you can take away and apply to your own life! Happy sunny Friday! This week on TRM, we are joined by Certified Nutrition Specialist, Abby King. In this episode, Abby tells us all about the gut-brain connection. She explains how the food that we eat, our eating habits, and our mentality around food all have a direct impact on our gut and brain health. Abby takes a holistic and personalized approach in her work and that really shows in this episode. She emphasizes the importance of nervous system regulation, finding a balanced diet that works for you, and using evidence-based practice as a guide, not the “be-all end-all”. Abby also introduces some foods that have been scientifically proven to improve mental health symptoms (how cool)! This conversation is very informative, practical, and relevant for anyone who eats food! Happy long weekend! Today, we are joined by CEO, Public Speaker, Executive and Solopreneur Coach, Author, and Award-Winning Entrepreneur, Hilary DeCesare from The ReLaunch Co! In this episode, Hilary talks about how her own personal life “relaunches” have put her in the position that she’s in today. Through remaining curious and having an innate desire to succeed, Hilary has learned a lot about the relationship between neuroscience and business. She explains her 3HQ (head, heart, and higher self) process, how we can truly “tune in” to what we want to achieve, and she also provides great insight into why we need to get out of our own way. She actually coaches me through one of her strategies (I loved this!) and emphasizes how important it is to lean into your own transformation. This episode is great for any high-achievers, business owners, and/or anyone looking to change their career path! I had so much fun connecting with Hilary and learned a whole lot about mindset in business. This week on The Revolutionized Mind, we are joined by Canadian Sports Broadcaster, Mental Health Speaker, and Founder of Sick Not Weak, Michael Landsberg! I am so grateful that I got the chance to sit down with someone that I listened to on the radio growing up (fangirl moment). In this episode, Michael talks about his experience with depression, the impacts of talking about mental illness publicly, and why he ultimately decided to start a Charitable Foundation. Michael is extremely passionate and honest when it comes to changing the conversation around mental health. He shares lots of personal stories to highlight how important it is to talk about these things and the positive effects it can have on those who are struggling. Michael helps others feel less alone in their mental illness journeys and creates a safe space for people to open up about what they are going through. Trigger warning: this episode discusses self-harm and suicide. This conversation is so impactful, in my unbiased opinion, and I really hope you’re able to take something away from listening today! In this episode, Joelle explains the concept of post-traumatic growth, which is all about learning how to live your life after trauma. Her approach is extremely authentic and genuine, highlighting that sometimes things just suck, and that's okay. However, it's also important that we learn to move forward in a meaningful way so, she talks about the importance of developing resiliency skills. She references the mind-body-soul connection (which we all know I love) and provides both clinical and practical ways that we can use these things in our everyday lives. Joelle has a big focus on balance and fulfillment in her work, and she does this by meeting her clients where they are at before taking them in any direction they might be uncomfortable with. Happy Friday beautiful people! How are you doing these days? Join me for a little mental health check-in before listening to this week's episode. She explains how anxiety can be viewed as a habit loop and how we can use this mentality to actually reframe the way we both view and respond to anxiety. Elena also describes what hypnotherapy is all about and how it can be used as a tool to support healing. Additionally, she breaks down some common myths about the practice and emphasizes that it is not at all like what we see in the media. Happy Friday! This week on The Revolutionized Mind, we are joined by Alexia who is an Auntie, Community Helper, Indigenous Advocate, Writer, and Dreamer. In this episode, we talk all about Indigenous mental health and well-being. Alexia shares some of the ways that colonial systems have impacted Indigenous folks’ ability to thrive in Canada, the importance of having sovereignty over wellness, and how we can all actively work towards reconciliation on both an individual and systemic level. She also highlights the effects of intergenerational trauma, explains why it’s crucial to move away from a monolithic approach in the mental health space, provides several practical ways that we can support/raise Indigenous voices in our everyday lives, and so much more! I strongly believe in the importance of this acknowledgment, so I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the privileges that we hold today in living and working on these lands. Currently, I am in Newmarket, Ontario which is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. This area of land is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. As a guest and settler on these lands, it is my duty to unlearn inherent colonial systems, actively work towards reconciliation, and to raise Indigenous voices whenever I can. Happy Friday! This week, we are joined by the CEO and Founder of TadHealth, Ben Greiner. A few years ago, Ben found himself supporting his best friend through a mental health crisis situation. At the time, he didn’t have the knowledge or resource information to help his friend in the way that he wanted. This sparked Ben’s passion for really getting involved in working in this space. He initially founded the TadProject to help educate people on what to do in crisis situations but quickly discovered that he wanted to do more. Then came TadHealth, a social impact for-profit company that aims to simplify access to mental health resources for everyone. Through leveraging both education and technology, Ben and his team have created a platform that makes mental health services more accessible for those who need it, when they need it. This week, we are joined by mental health advocate and podcast host, Todd Rennebohm. Before Todd began working in the mental health space, he was heavily struggling with an alcohol addiction. But, like many, he didn’t realize how serious it was. In this episode, he shares his story with mental illness, explains how it was affecting different areas of his life, and highlights how difficult the road to recovery can be. After several attempts at getting help and experiencing many bumps along the way, Todd landed in a 28-day treatment program that ultimately changed his life. He wrote a children’s book, began advocating for mental health, and is now in his 6th year of sobriety. Todd’s story is complex, authentic, and incredibly inspiring. I hope that anybody listening to this will take away the message that: recovery is possible and hard work pays off!
