Born in Brooklyn and raised in Massapequa, New York, Phantom grew up listening to his parents' jazz records and began playing drums by the age of ten. He took lessons with Mousie Alexander, who played with Benny Goodman, studying jazz and working through books by Jim Chapin and Ted Reed. By the late 1970s, he was playing in bands with his childhood friend, bassist Lee Rocker. They soon joined forces with guitarist Brian Setzer to form Stray Cats.[ When performing with Stray Cats, Phantom did not sit behind a standard drum kit like most drummers, but instead opted to play in a standing position with a minimalist set-up of bass drum, snare drum, hi-hat, and crash cymbal. During downtime from Stray Cats, Phantom played in swing, rockabilly, and jump blues combo The Swing Cats with Rocker and ex-Polecats guitarist Danny B. Harvey,[6] as well as rockabilly and glam rock project Phantom, Rocker & Slick with Rocker and guitarist Earl Slick.  In 1985, he appeared with Carl Perkins and a host of other musicians including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Dave Edmunds and Rosanne Cash for Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session in London, England. Phantom also played with Jerry Lee Lewis. He later formed Col. Parker with former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, releasing the album Rock n Roll Music in 2001.[ Most recently, he has been involved in the eponymous roots-rock band Slim Jim's Phantom Trio; rock-and-roll supergroup Dead Men Walking with Kirk Brandon and Mike Peters, and Captain Sensible;[ and rockabilly supergroup The Head Cat with Danny B. Harvey and the late Motörhead vocalist and bassist Lemmy.  He also hosts the Rockabilly Raveup show on Little Steven's Underground Garage. In March 2023, Barnes announced the supergroup The Barnestormers, featuring Barnes, Cheney, Phantom with Jools Holland and Kevin Shirley. A self-titled album was released on 26 May 2023.     Some Things That Came Up:   -2:35 45 Years of The Stay Cats -3:30 Studying with Mousey Alexander  -3:50 Ted Reed and Jim Chapin books  -8:30 Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley, Eddie Cochran, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Luis Jordan are           the roots -10:12 Origins of The Stray Cats  -14:00 Moving to London at 19 years old -16:00 Lemmy, Joe Strummer, and Chrissy Hyndes   were early believers -17:30 Ray Davies  -17:50 The Rolling Stones front row at a show helped the Stray Cats make national news -18:40 Arista Records and Dave Edmunds -19:00 A Top 10 hit!  -22:20 5 nights at The Roxy -25:45 Opened for The Stones in 1981, for FREE!  -29:20 Always creating with longtime friends  -32:00 Working with Harry Dean Stanton and Jules Holland -37:45 Getting the job on Little Steven’s Underground on Sirius XM, every Sunday at 5 pm  -44:00 Climbing Mt. Growing up in a house full of musical instruments, Daxx gravitated towards the drums at a very early age. After high school Daxx traveled the US extensively with his original band, Harmony Riley. Upon the band's dissolution Daxx packed up and moved to Los Angeles where he quickly got into the studio and touring world. His first break was drumming for surf guitar pioneer Dick Dale. While on breaks from touring he formed A Fine Frenzy with singer/songwriter Alison Sudol. This led to jobs with Brandi Carlile, Cory Chisel and the Wandering sons, and numerous others. Ryan Gruss  “The Fantasty Football of Music Making”  Ryan's journey in the music business began after graduating from The Berklee College of Music in 2000 with a degree in Musical Performance for Drums, and then moving to New York City to begin his "career" in the real world. It was during his second week at Atlantic when Ryan was approached by the HR department, asking if he was interested in becoming Ahmet Erteguns' (the legendary Founder and CEO of Atlantic) assistant. His mind was blown and he instantly accepted the position. In 2010, Ryan launched The Loop Loft and began recording other musicians and treating it like a record label, providing the artists with royalties from the sales of each loop pack. Word began to spread amongst the studio musician community, and a roster of legendary musicians like Omar Hakim, Joey Waronker, Matt Chamberlain began to form and quickly grow. For the next 8 years, Ryan continued to organically build The Loop Loft, adding more artists and content on a weekly basis. Partnerships with companies like Ableton, Native Instruments, BandLab and PreSonus were formed. Guitar Center also began to sell products from The Loop Loft. The company was now the top-selling source for loop and samples, generating millions of dollars of revenue each year. It was a career and a company that Ryan had never dreamed of or anticipated, but he had finally found his musical North Star. Ryan left Native Instruments in 2020 and formed Yurt Rock, literally inside of his Yurt studio in the hills of LA. But with the COVID pandemic grinding studio work to a halt, Ryan decided to take the time and move his family to Nashville, a place that many consider the music capital of the world. It was time for a fresh start. With dozens of the world's top musicians, Yurt Rock has quickly become the ultimate source for producers, engineers and songwriters seeking not only loops and samples, but also custom BATTERY/MASCHINE kits, Ableton Live Packs, Logic Sessions, multitracks and much more.     Things That Came Up: -3:50 Yurt Rock is the “Fantasy Football” of music making  -5:10 The Loop Loft was acquired by Native Instruments in 2018.  -12:30 Berklee set the tone for relationships throughout life.  -14:30 Expanding into software, partnering with plug-in companies and diving into new media.  -16:00 Affordable price points are key -18:00 Redmond’s Big Modern Drums Vol. 1 and 2, as well as Locked! In Tyson’s own words:  “I have been playing professionally in clubs and venues all over the US and Globally since 1988. Originally from Kansas City, I migrated to Nashville to pursue my dream further to be in a touring act, Upon living here for three months, I landed the keyboard spot for 90s country superstar Tracy Lawrence.     Previous to my tenure with Lawrence, I performed with Corey Taylor of the heavy metal juggernaut Slipknot and Stone Sour in the short-lived band Corey Taylor and the Junk Beer Kidnap Band. Essentially it’s the prequel to his current solo outing CMFT. In 2017, I was hired as the keyboardist for late 80s hard rock all-female sensation Vixen and am still touring the world with them. In addition to touring work, I’ve been a Dueling pianist since 2012 working at venues like Howl At The Moon and currently The Big Bang in Nashville, TN. I’ve also performed on the Kid Rock Cruise. The KISS cruise. The Megadeth cruise. Monsters Of Rock, Shiprocked, The 80s Cruise, and the Rob Gronkowski cruise among others. I released a solo album in 2013. In 2016 I released a follow-up single titled “Cradle To The Grave”. In 2020, I produced a country album for Singer/Songwriter Dew Pendleton called “Might As Well Be Me”. And on New Year’s Eve, I released a hard rock single called “Burning Time” which featured members of Queensryche, Vixen, Mr. Big, and Autograph. When I’m not on the road you can often see me performing between 6-7 nights a week on lower Broadway in Nashville or performing at a Dueling Piano bar somewhere in the country. I’ve also recorded for 80s sleaze rockers Faster Pussycat and David Ellefson of Megadeth, Enuff Z’Nuff, blues artist Amanda Fish, and numerous independent artist releases for artists of various genres.   Things That Came Up:    -3:30 How Rich met Tyson  -4:00 Playing in underage bands  -5:00 Playing with best friend Go Go Ray  -5:50 2006…The 90 Minutes Band  -9:00 The Big 5!  -10:00 Tyson’s blog on medium.com -10:40 Vietnam. Jonathan Butler is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who leads a life few can imagine. Born in South Africa under the shadow of apartheid and raised in poverty, Butler was the first non-white artist to be played on South African radio and appear on national television. Though his musical abilities would take him away from the world he grew up in, Jonathan would neither forget the plight of his fellow South Africans, nor the man that led them to freedom. It is for this reason Nelson Mandela credits Butler’s music as having inspired him during his imprisonment. In more ways than one, Jonathan Butler is representative of South Africa. Jonathan’s story begins at a very young age when his father presented him with a homemade one-string guitar. Little did his father realize that he was giving way to a musical phenomenon. From then on, Jonathan’s musical gifts grew by leaps and bounds. In his early teens Butler won a local talent contest, affording him the opportunity to perform with a touring musical company throughout South Africa. On occasion he would perform at lavish concert halls for whites only, where he would not be allowed to use the bathroom, and the very next night he would perform in a dilapidated local township. Ultimately, his ticket to a new life was music.  At thirteen, Jonathan’s talents caught the eyes and ears of the British record producer Clive Caulder. He was signed to Caulder’s Jive Records and the rest is history. Jonathan’s first single broke down racial barriers becoming the first song by a black artist played by white radio stations in South Africa and won the South African equivalent to a GRAMMY®. His commitment to his craft came to fruition with his self-titled debut album, which received a GRAMMY® nomination for the pop hit “Lies.” An instrumental “Going Home” earned him another GRAMMY® nomination and the mid-tempo ballad “Sarah, Sarah” confirmed Butler’s place in popular music. However, to Jonathan Butler, success is measured on a higher plane. A religious and spiritual man, Butler dedicates his life to being a devoted father and grandfather, and a caring citizen to his homeland, South Africa. And in spite of all the hardships, Jonathan Butler has an air of playfulness and quiet resilience that is easily visible in his passionate performances.   Things That Came Up:  1:55 -taking a break after tours 4:00-being deeply in love with music  9:15-accepting yourself and believing in your own ability to succeed. 12:15-The NEW record Ubuntu, produced by Marcus Miller.  14:00-Stevie Wonder featured on harmonica as well as Keb Mo and Tommy Simms.
