More than forty-two years ago, addiction collapsed my early life. Before recovery, I served three years in the United States Marine Corps. After my service, I spent significant time in boxing gyms. These spaces shaped me in important ways, teaching discipline, humility, respect, and the importance of mentorship. They later became places where I learned about structure, belonging, and guidance. In my early twenties, that collapse unfolded through addiction, trauma, and exposure to violence, narrowing my world and my sense of possibility. The consequences were tangible and cumulative. Employment disappeared, relationships fractured, and the future narrowed. The night my daughter was born, I was arrested and spent the night in a holding cell, missing her arrival into the world. That moment became a turning point. I did not get sober that night. I got sober seven months later. But something cracked open then and set the direction of my life.

A Novel Plus a Short Equals a FeatureIn 1989, when I was a Lecturer at Texas A&M University, I took a vacation over to Liverpool,England. In the native port of the Beatles, I became consumed with creating a story concerning a fictional friendship between the Beatles and an American by the name of Al Moran. Al, who was loosely based upon myself, had accepted a teaching position at the Liverpool Art College, where one of his students was a rebellious young rocker by the name of Lennon. The beautiful Ginny Browne was the catalyst of the growing friendship between John and Al. My saga was my own personal dreamscape of what would have happened if I would have been a mentor of John, Paul and George back in the days before they became famous. It was a fusion of fantasy with fact to recreate a magical time in Liverpool in the early to middle Sixties. I would be part of their legend. In 2022, PTP/Book Division, an imprint of Saguaro Books, Of Fountain Hills, Arizona finallypublished my novel as Al and the Moon Dogs. Al being Al Moran and the Moon Dogs being anearly band name of the group that gradually evolved into the Fab Four. I had previouslypublished the book in 2013 under my own imprint of Celtic-Badger Publishers. I used the titleof Mersey Boys in honor of the Mersey River that flows through Liverpool. The Beatles andother rock groups of the area had been a part of the Mersey Beat Sound. As a wanderingeducator, I have taught in Japan, Saudia Arabia, Wisconsin and Texas, and as I rambled the world I was always working upon my Beatles’ yarn.Connect with him here
I was just like many others: Caught up in a 9 to 5 job as a wheel in the cog of corporate production and comfortably checking off the boxes that most people consider part of the American dream. But one day, everything changed and simply checking the boxes to a normal, comfortable life was no longer an option. From there, I was put on a path that led me to Saudi Arabia, Southeast Asia, the Indo-Pacific Islands, Hawaii, and beyond. Along the way, I have become an international adventure athlete intent on living a full and daring life. One with the “aliveness factor”. My adventures include being attacked by sharks, lost at sea, and trapped in underwater caves. Being consumed by volcanoes, earthquake, and ocean currents. Getting caught up in military coups, engulfed by huge waves, detained in Saudi and Bangkok jails, and frequent meet ups with sea snakes and two-step vipers– a small snake whose bite only gives you two steps before you’re a goner. But my story isn’t all high-octane, heart-pounding adventure. I am also the author of five books published by Prentice Hall, and the managing partner of an international business, metaRisk Theory. And now, I’m focusing in on business professionals and athletes as they embark on their own journeys in the world. With my guidance, they can grab a hold of their wildest dreams and catalyze their way through the fear of failure that hold so many hostage to a run-of-the-mill life.I couple my personal mindset and processes with real-life experiences, leading others to see how limitless their life and world can be. And recapture the “aliveness factor”The ProcessWith lots of life experiences comes a deeply personal and invigorating outlook on the world. For me, the product of each venture, experience, and challenge culminates in a unique philosophy that has a way of inspiring others to reach farther, work harder, and to get off the sidelines to create a kick-ass life. The process is three-dimensional and is commonly seen amongst successful people making the most out of their lives. But if this process is typical, then why are so many people caving under their fears and expectations? The answer is simple, but not easy– kind of like most things that are worthwhile. Most successful people don’t want to break down their processes and lead others out of the distractions and deflections that keep them spinning their wheels and struggling. Most of the battle is mindset, especially in the beginning. All too often, business professional, athletes and others have trouble translating their excellence on the field to their every day lives. They become overwhelmed when it comes to their long-term goals, because they don’t know where to start. They fall victim to the stress of failing before they even try.Do you feel you’re not strong enough, smart enough, or skilled enough to live the kick-ass life you’re dreaming of? Do you think that your current experience, accomplishments, and natural talents just aren’t enough to propel you forward successfully? Is fear of failure stopping you from getting out there and trying? If you often find yourself thinking, “I gotta get out of here. Time to move forward,” then it sounds like you’re where you need to be. Click here to get in contact with me and start betting on yourself. And recapture the “aliveness factor”.

One day my friend Joe saw an advert for a singer (which he was) in a shop window. We were inseparable then so I tagged along. The band was the Diversions, fronted by Lene Lovich who later had massive success with her single Lucky Number. Right then she was doing soul music though. Joe got the gig and so did I! It was my first experience in a band since leaving school and led on to you reading this.Since then I’ve been many things. Roadie, producer, musical director, mentor, teacher, tour manager. It’s been my fortune to have worked with artists like Robert Palmer, Barry White, Chaka Khan, Sheena Easton, Lulu, Inner City, The Four Tops, Mary Wilson of The Supremes. Sometimes I couldn’t believe my luck. The first album in which I take on the vocals is “I Fly With Dragons” with cover design by the very talented Gary Thomas (nice one Gary). The musicians featured on here have either performed or written with me for it. I hope you like.
Brian Medwin Trenchard-Smith (born 1946) is an English-Australian filmmaker and author, known for his idiosyncratic and satirical low-budget genre films. BAND BIO The band was formed off the back of successes with our individual previous bands. With many gigs under our belts independently, as a unit we have now combined our experiences to produce Velour Fog, electrifying rock band from Hertfordshire. A Schwarzenegger of hard rock serving you an ass-whoopin of stone cold riffs, tasty licks, a smackdown of beats, and ball-dropping bass. Taking inspiration from 80s and 90s acts such as Guns N Roses, Primus, Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Alice in Chains and Ratt we are England’s answer to a generation just looking to have a good time through the power of rock. Our sound hits harder than a steel chair shot. The band is made up of drummer ‘Chainsaw Ali’ – a student of the pulse of the universe and its rhythmsJake, lead guitarist, vocals and songwriter extraordinaire known as ‘the fastest gun in the West’ with sick licks and flowing fingers gliding effortlessly like a panther in the ‘fog’.‘Hercules’, formerly known as Marshall, rhythm guitar and vocals, badass leather wearing college drop-out with spellbinding stage moves.Naois- ‘finger plucking bassist, sultry Irish looks and surprising stage get up’s, at home in the spellbinding purple interior of the ‘Velour Fog’.NICK BIO Prestigious British Music Producer Nick Tauber started his musical career drumming in an R&B band in the late Sixties. But he soon gave touring and became a studio engineer and subsequently joined Decca as an assistant producer. This is where he came across Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy, remixed their first album and the rest is history. Nick has had a career spanning from the 70’s to the present day, having produced hit records for some of the world’s greatest rock bands/artists including Thin Lizzy, Def Leppard, Toyah Wilcox, Marillion. Slaughter and the Dogs, Stiff Little Fingers and black metal gods Venom as well as having smash hits in the charts with top pop acts such as Toyah Wilcox and Bloodstone, earning him a reputation as one of the industry’s most respected producers. Flip to the present day and Nick still has his finger on the pulse, and a passion for working with young upcoming bands, as he continues to manage, produce and consult with new bands/artists.
