Steve Rainbolt is in his 26th season as director of track and field and cross country at Wichita State. He joins the podcast to preview the indoor track season and explain why the Shocker men’s team sees itself capable of challenging for an American Conference title. Mike Kennedy, 77, announced today (Nov. 14) he will retire at the end of the 2025-26 season as radio voice of the Shockers. He will continue through basketball and baseball. Kennedy, a graduate of Wichita State and Southeast High, started doing WSU football and basketball on the radio as a student on KMUW and took over as the full-time voice in 1980. Mike talks about his decision, his career and the connection with Shocker fans. We discuss the importance of radio bringing games to fans, the veteran crew of MVC radio announcers and baseball bus rides and card games.
Wichita State women’s golf recorded four top-five team finish this fall, the most for the Shockers since 2017-18. Former Shocker volleyball star Morgan Stout is preparing for her second season of professional volleyball after signing as a free agent with the Omaha Supernovas of Major League Volleyball. Jacob Eddins is Wichita State’s new women’s tennis coach after spending the past two seasons as associate head coach at Illinois. Wichita State associate head coach Elizabeth Economon sets fans up for fall softball. The Shockers will play McLennan Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday and Emporia State at 3 p.m. Sunday. We talk about blending in 14 newcomers, nine of them transfers. We discuss how returners such as Jodie Epperson and Brookelyn Livanec can progress in their second season as Shockers and the latest additions from Wichita State’s connection to McLennan.
