Julia Robert guitarist Roderick MacLeod chats to SAG about Julia Robert's latest EP "Late Stage Dream", packed with layers of heavy guitars and a surprise homage to 80s Euro synthpop with the German-sung female empowerment anthem "Starkes Mädchen". He talks about how the band gets those heavy, overdriven guitar tones and what inspired them in creating the sound profile of the band. He also breaks down his gear and how it comes together to create the Julia Robert sound.

This band really has such a unique sound, there is only one Manuvah to Land - I mean even the name is unique! They have stuck to their guns for so many years, doing what they feel is right. Doing things the way they want to do it. If you listen to how Durran, the lead guitarist, explain in the interview how they create their sound, you'll notice how deep it actually goes for them.

We also discuss how an artist's emotions are intertwined with their music and how this is no exception to the music of ADV.
A little more than a month ago I had the privilege of chatting to Alanna Joy about the latest singles she and her band have released. We set out to chat about their new single "Tell Me" which is a collaboration with Matt Carstens. Alanna's vocals is definitely one of my favourite things about her music, apart from the fact that she writes heartfelt, relatable music about real-life experiences and struggles.
Ambient prog fingerstyle guitar maestro Ryno Theron sits down to chat with SA Guitarist about his brand new album release called "Howling Rush", and also reveals a special one-off album and merch giveaway that Ryno is hosting in association with SA Guitarist, Devographic and Alain Smith Guitars.
It's rare to find young guitarists these days who have been influenced by the guitar sounds of the 70s and 80s, but Josh is that kind of guitarist. It was such a pleasure chatting to this lead player (shredder) of the band Son of Leto. He comes across as the type of guitarist who knew exactly what type of sound he was going way for before he even knew how to play the guitar properly. He brings a very nostalgic, distinct sound to the band and he pulls it off super well!
Chatting to Des from Runaway Nuns was such a pleasure, what a great guy. Such a humble, down-to-earth guitarist that just loves jamming! Listen to the interview to hear all about his influences, his fetish for DD6 pedals and more!
Matt Nijland chats to phenomenal prog guitarist Robyn Ferguson about the her journey with the guitar, the struggles and inspiration behind her latest EP "Falling Forward", her endorsement deal with Ibanez South Africa and so much more!

SA Guitarist recently interviewed Greg and Bex from The Medicine Dolls to chat about what they've been up to during the Covid-19 lockdown, their opinion of the SA music industry and how the band started out hustling in Cape Town without even so much as one musical instrument! This and much more.
This rad, Durban-based indie band had a chat with us recently. We discussed everything from them growing up craving to see more live bands perform to actually sharing a stage with one of their favourite local indie bands who they've always looked up to - Short Straw. This and much more!
We had the privilege of chatting to all of the members of Scarlotte Will. We discussed how they got together to form the band, their songwriting technique, their past gigs - good and bad, guitar gear, music influences and what lays ahead, amongst many other topics. What a bunch of great guys. Awesome to chat to, humble and extremely talented.
Matt Nijland chats to Marcelle van der Heever - lead guitarist of the Afrikaans rock band Bloumoord - about his early and current guitar heros and musical influences, as well as all about the band and their recent single "Natuurlike Vrees Deel 1". Marcelle gives deep insight into the bands music and songs, and some interesting backstories.
