Hey everyone! I don’t want to brag but I’m friends with more than one super model. My guest today is one of them. Paulina Porizkova is a gorgeous human being inside and out. She is truly one of the most inspiring, honest, authentic people I know. I was supposed to talk to her about her book No Filter a few months ago but that didn’t happen…you’ll find out why in the episode. But we got a chance to talk about it on this episode amongst a whole lotta other things like grief, sharing yourself on social media, and one of my favorite topics, aging as a woman. Be sure to stick around for the hindsight where producer Jeph and I talk vulnerability, cargo shorts, and more F1 than he can probably handle.
Hey everyone, today on the show is one of my heroes and inspirations, Lucy Lawless. She is, of course, Xena Warrior Princess, but I first met her as Number Three on Battlestar Galactica. We didn’t get to work together a lot, so it was a joy to sit down and chat with her. Lucy just directed her first documentary, Never Look Away, the story of CNN war photographer Margaret Moth. There are a lot of lessons to learn from the documentary and Lucy has a lot of stories about getting it made and the challenges they faced. It was nice to get a chance to chat with her while she’s doing press for the film. I think Lucy and I had different experiences working on Battlestar so it was enlightening to hear her perspective. Stick around after the interview where my producer Jeph and I talk about the interview and my recent trip to see F1! Plus we answer your comments and emails in the mail sack! Hey everyone! My guest today is actually one of my best friends, well he’s actually the husband of one of my best friends but I like him just as much! Teddy Sears is that guy you’ve seen in everything including his new show Brilliant Minds with Zachary Quinto. We talk a little about that show, the inspiration behind it, and what it’s like to work with Zachary. We also talk a lot about how Teddy got into acting so he’d have a good story to tell his grandkids and it somehow turned into a career. I’m pretty upset we have never had the chance to work together but let’s hold out hope that that will change soon! Teddy is a genuinely awesome person and I’m so lucky to have him as a friend. Make sure to stick around for the hindsight where my producer Jeph and I answer your comments and emails and I do my best to make sure Jeph will never be able to spell restaurant again in his life. Happy Tuesday! I am very, very excited about today’s guests—mostly because my daughter is going to be their new best friend. Today, I’m talking to Barlow & Bear (aka Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear), the incredibly talented duo behind the music in the new movie, Moana 2, which comes out tomorrow, 11/27! If you have kids, are a kid, or just love Disney musicals, then you’re certainly as excited as I am about Moana 2 and the opportunity to move on from singing How Far I’ll Go around the house and get something new stuck in our heads! Abigail and Emily are delightful, super talented, and, most importantly, young enough to be my daughters. I couldn’t be more impressed by them and their journey—from winning a Grammy for The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical to being two of just a handful of women to compose music for a Disney movie. I can’t wait for you to get to know them. Remember to stick around for the Hindsight, where my producer Jeph and I talk about the episode and answer your comments and emails in the Mail Sack. This week, we’re giving you all the dirt on Hallmark movies!
Hello everyone! Today I have my great friend Ian Bohen on the podcast. You probably know Ian as Ryan on Yellowstone but he was also in Teen Wolf and he played Young Hercules before some other actor took over the role. Ian and I met while riding motorcycles for amfAR and have been good friends ever since. He has an amazing perspective on life and his career that I really take a lot of lessons from. He also has an amazing house so if you’re not watching video, maybe you should be? Remember to stick around for the hindsight where my producer Jeph and I discuss birthdays, the state of the industry, and why so many films and shows aren’t shot in LA. Plus, we answer your emails in the Mail Sack. Send me an email thesackhoffshow@gmail.com Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
Happy Tuesday! Today, I’m so excited to be talking to one of my favorite nemeses, The Flash himself, Grant Gustin. I’m just joking, I love Grant. We did play foes on TV but we’re good friends in real life. And how could we not be? He was Sebastian on Glee! Grant just finished his run of Water For Elephants on Broadway in September and he and his wife welcomed their second child shortly after our conversation. Naturally, we talk a lot about being a parent, working in theater, being on a long-running TV show, and the changes of perspective he’s gone through in his career. Grant is super sweet and even showed me his purse. Stick around after our convo for the Hindsight, where my producer Jeph and I break down the interview, and he tries to get me to spill secrets about The Mandalorian. Enjoy! Hey everyone, we decided to celebrate America’s right to vote this week by having British and French actor Jamie Bamber on the show. But of course, you know Jamie better as Lee “Apollo” Adams from a little show called Battlestar Galactica. Jamie and I first met when we were both testing for our roles (I totally didn’t forget that) and have become like family to each other. It’s been a while since I had a chance to talk with him, so we got to catch up on where we’re both living these days, how our families are doing, and then how Battlestar changed our lives and how lucky we got to be a part of something so special so early in both our careers. Jamie is the best and it’s easy to see why Starbuck was in love with him. Stick around for the hindsight where my producer Jeph and I talk about the episode and really anything else that comes up plus we read your comments and answer your emails. Enjoy! Happy Halloween! This week, I got to sit down with the hilarious Sasheer Zamata, and we talked about everything from her stand-up comedy to starring in Agatha All Along as the witch Jennifer. You’ll hear all about her journey from SNL into the Marvel Universe, her actual passion for witch history, how comedy has always been a part of her life, and how she’s a late-in-life lesbian. Stick around for the hindsight, where my producer Jeph and I answer your comments and emails. Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
On today’s episode, I sit down with my friend Rebecca Mader, known for her unforgettable roles on Once Upon a Time and Lost. We dive into some very fun stories about how we met at a convention (spoiler alert: it involves us both dropping to the ground). We talk about the world of Comic-Cons, motherhood, and how we’re pretty sure our kids love us! Rebecca also shares her experiences in Hollywood, playing the Wicked Witch of the West, being stuck in Hawaii asking herself why she was still on Lost, and how much she wants to be in a comedy. Rebecca is too fun and a riot to talk to. You don’t want to miss this one. Plus, stick around for my Hindsight segment with my producer, Jeph, where we answer your questions in the Mail Sack and try to keep it under 30 minutes. Hey everyone! In this episode, I get to sit down (leg over the chair) with the lovely Jonathan Frakes, who, of course, played the legendary (and dreamy) William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation. We dive into so much—getting the role on Next Gen, his first directing job, and even his thoughts on the convention circuit and the sweaty fans. You guys, I so want to be in Star Trek and I’m hoping Jonathan can help me do that. I pitched myself pretty hard here, so fingers crossed! Stick around for the hindsight to find out how much of a Star Trek nerd my producer, Jeph, is while we answer your comments and emails in the Mail Sack. Hi everyone! In this episode, I am so excited today because I am talking to Ezra Bridger himself from Ahsoka, aka Eman Esfandi! You guys, Eman is so sweet and genuine. We dive into everything from how spirituality plays a huge role in his life, to the wild story of how Ezra quite literally found him. Eman talks about growing up with immigrant parents, pivoting from tennis dreams to acting, and how he almost quit the industry before landing in the Star Wars universe. Plus, we get into his music career as DragonWulf and how following his joy helped him manifest all the great things that have happened to him. I love this episode so much. Eman is so honest and has lived a lot of lives at only 27 years old. You’re going to love it. Remember to stick around to the hindsight where my producer Jeph and I discuss the episode and try not to get me canceled. We also respond to your comments and emails in the Mail Sack! Hey, everyone! Today, I'm very excited to talk with my good friend and one of the most talented composers I’ve ever met, Bear McCreary! Not only was he the composer for Battlestar Galactica, but he has gone on to work on shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Black Sails, Outlander, The Walking Dead,  and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.  We first met when we were both little babies on Battlestar. I was surprised to find out I wasn’t the only young person on the crew - Bear was the composer at only 24! Today, we're diving deep into his career, how he got interested in music, landed the Battlestar gig, and what he’s working on these days. Which speaking of, Bear just released his new double album and graphic novel project, “The Singularity”. If you like heavy metal and music like Guns and Roses then you’re going to love this because Slash literally plays on this album.  Also, find out how Bear came up with that iconic All Along the Watchtower Battlestar remix and how he convinced me to play it with him live on stage and might again soon! Stick around for the hindsight where I force my producer to listen to me talk about carpet beetles, bed bugs, parasitic wasps, and all that fun stuff. Hey everyone, in this episode, I sit down with the amazing Bitsie Tulloch, known for her roles as Juliette Silverton in Grimm and Lois Lane in Superman & Lois. I was really excited to talk with Bitsie because I've only ever seen her at cons for short moments. It was great to talk to her about how she got into acting after going to Harvard(!) and the unexpected path that led her to iconic roles in Grimm and, of course, as Lois Lane.  We also talk about how she balances family life with her daughter and husband, David Giuntoli while surviving Hollywood and staying out of the public eye, as well as our shared love of Portland. Stick around for the hindsight where I read your comments and emails to find out what word I can't spell for the life of me... In today’s episode, I’m chatting with my friend Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who you probably know from Kim’s Convenience and just about every Star Wars show out there right now (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka) as Captain Carson Teva.  Paul’s journey from an immigrant family to fulfilling his nerd dream of being a part of the Star Wars universe is amazing, and we dive deep into what it’s like growing up in Canada, deciding to be an actor against his parent's wishes, and having to navigate Hollywood as an Asian actor.  We also talk about his passion for collecting, the joy he finds in the Star Wars fandom, and why there's no Carson Teva action figure! Paul is just one of the kindest and most genuine people I’ve met, and I can’t wait for you all to hear his story. Enjoy this fantastic conversation with one of the best, and stick around for the Hindsight where I answer your comments and emails.  Send us your emails at thesackhoffshow@gmail.com. Hello everyone, today we have Bosch himself, Titus Welliver, to talk about his life, playing Bosch (of course), his role on The Mandalorian, our new show Watchmen Chapter 1, and acting in general. Honestly, I was a little nervous to talk to him because he's kind of an intimidating guy, but it turns out he's an absolute sweetheart. Tune in to meet the sweet man underneath the tattoos and find out if I can pronounce Rorschach or not. Stick around for the hindsight, where we dissect the episode and answer your comments and emails.Send us your emails at thesackhoffshow@gmail.com.  Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
Today on the show we’ve got my friend and former neighbor, Jon Huertas. I actually don’t know how I met Jon, but he’s been a good friend for many years, and I was excited to catch up with him, learn more about his work on This Is Us and Band of Brothers, and get some tips on directing from him. Enjoy! That’s what’s up! Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
VIDEO IS BACK!!! You asked, we listened. I talk about why in the hindsight, so do stick around for that. Before that, our first honored video guest is certified Firefly-legend Jewel Staite. Not one to miss, folks. That's what's up! Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
Rekha Sharma is one of my favorite people and a dear friend! She was Tory on Battlestar Galactica, Commander Landry on Star Trek: Discovery, Jessica on Yellowjackets, and a million other things on a million other movies and shows. We nerd out about Star Trek, I stumble my way through some questions about race and typecasting in the film industry, and we have a good time. That’s what’s up! Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
Edward James Olmos is not just an acting legend who's played in everything from Miami Vice to Mayans M.C. In my Battlestar Galactica family he's basically my dad, and I couldn't be happier to have him on the show. Edward talks about New York gang culture in the 40s and 50s, the impact and importance of Battlestar, and the story behind his epic So Say We All-speech. Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
You know Jay Ellis from Top Gun, Insecure and Somebody I Used To Know, but he's also one of the hardest working men in Hollywood, and now also an author! We talk about Jay's imaginary friend (which is the subject of his book), working with Tom Cruise, and the iconic football scene in Top Gun: Maverick, and how they managed to make all the actors look so... oily. That's what's up!   Jordan's Mail Sack Art Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles
