My guest for today, Daphne Gray-Grant is talking about neuroscience and how this fascinating thing can make you a better writer!Daphne Gray-Grant grew up in the newspaper business: her parents owned a struggling weekly where she worked from the age of 16, even while completing an honors degree in Political Science at the University of B.C. Eventually, she left the family business to become a senior editor at a major metropolitan daily — The Vancouver Sun — where she worked for 10 years. After the birth of her triplet children in 1994, she became a communications consultant, and writing and editing coach. She is the author of two books: 8 1/2 Steps to Writing Faster, Better and Your Happy First Draft. She has been blogging since 2006 and hosting a YouTube channel since 2017. She strongly believes that the main reason many people can’t write — and can’t write quickly — is because the school system hasn’t given them the simple tools to do it. Her popular and free weekly newsletter, Power Writing, goes to thousands of readers around the world every Tuesday morning.Key points in this episode:Daphne shares her tips on how to set up writing habitsHow she is able to post 5 blog posts per week despite her busy weekWhat is neuroscience and how it can help you become a better writer? What is a mind-mapping technique and how can we apply it when writing? How our brain operatesDoes multitasking really work? Some apps that we can use when writingFollow Daphne on socials!– YouTube– Twitter – @pubcoach– WebsiteIf you want to develop a writing habit, join her accountability program, Get It Done.Welcome to the Savvy Scribe Podcast, I'm so glad you're here! Finding evidence-based research to use in our writing is essential for standing out in the health writing space. Knowing how to find sources to help patients distinguish real information pertinent to their diagnosis can be tricky, but I’m here to provide three ways to access and find sources for free! Tips inside this episode!Check your hospital library – when I was writing papers for my BSN, I would often use the library and rarely saw anyone else inside. You may also be able to access library resources through the hospital intranet.UpToDate is an expensive subscription, but if you’re a hospital employee, you can ask the librarian for a home access.Websites such as WebMD, Healthline, and other credible sites ending in .gov or .org are great for sourcing.BONUS tip: if you’re looking to interview someone as a source, check Facebook groups related to that area and you’re sure to find someone willing to be interviewed.I have more episodes that will help you find sources for your content writing!Episode 183: Research And The Right Way To Do It With Katie MomoEpisode 172: How To Simplify Content Creation With Jen LiddyEpisode 150: Top 10 Tools For Successful Remote WorkingEpisode 144: Create A Process For Your Content That Can Be ReplicatedWelcome to the Savvy Scribe Podcast, I'm so glad you're here!
