On this special interview episode, I spoke to Philip O'Rourke about his upcoming book "Forgotten Football Clubs: Fifty Teams Across the World, Gone but Never Forgotten."
We discussed why some clubs go out of business, what happens to the fans of a forgotten team and some of the strangest stories of forgotten clubs. We also touch on how a fan feels when their clubs ceases to exist, and the conflicting emotions of having to find another team to support.

On this episode of the podcast, I spoke to Shaul Adar, Israeli journalist about his book "On the Border: The Rise and Decline of the Most Political Club in the World." The book tells the story of Beitar Jerusalem, an infamous club both in Israel and globally.
Famous for its racist fans, spearheaded by the ultra group "La Familia", the club has never fielded an Arab player. We spoke about how this club was able to court political influence in the Likud party of Netanyahu, how attempts to bring the club in a different direction have failed and what the club's story tells us about Israeli politics. We also spoke about the fallout from the documentary "Forever Pure", which shows how the fans reacted to an attempt by their former owner to bring in two Muslim players from Chechnya (spoiler alert: not good). It is a fascinating story into an area of the world's football culture that is not too often discussed, and Adar speak eloquently and thoughtfully on the subject.

On this very special episode, we dived deep into the story of Chagos Islands football. Its an incredible story of how football can be used to represent a people who have had their rights ignored. The Chagos Islands are a tiny archipelago in the Indian Ocean, who's inhabitants were illegally removed in the early 70s. With many of the refugees descendants living in the UK, we examined how the representative football team is being used to raise awareness of the issue and the importance of giving people the opportunity to represent their own heritage.
This episode includes two interviews, first with Sabrina Jean, the Chair of the UK Chagos Refugees Group and Jimmy Ferrar, the coach of the Chagos Islands National Team.

On this episode, we looked back on an all-time Champions League Final ending in Barcelona. With guests United superfan (?) Jack and the Scottish Alex, we examined how United completed the 1999 treble and how it was done.
Along the way we discussed could Carsten Jancker and Jaap Stam be brothers, how good was Clive Tydesley's commentary that night and unearthed some bizarre pranks at the Carrington training ground. This week I was joined by Gary Thacker, author of the book Beautiful Bridesmaids Dressed in Oranje. The book charts the unfulfilled glory of the Dutch National side. We focused on the great team of 1974, with Cruyff et al, and how exactly they lost that final to West Germany. We also talked about what exactly is total football, what made that team so special as well as if they should have won the World Cup in 1978. A really interesting discussion looking at one of the most influential sides of football history.

This week I was delighted to be joined by Ibrahim Mustapha author of "No Longer Naive - African Football's Growing Impact at the World Cup" on the show. We focused on the remarkable story of Senegal's run at the 2002 World Cup, which included the memorable opening game victory of France. We spoke about the journey of the time, harmful stereotypes about African players and when an African team will go to the next stage of the competition. An exciting and thought provoking conversation for you on our newest podcast. In January this year Bohemian FC in Ireland made news around the world when they appointed Seán McCabe as the world's first climate justice officer at a football club. Having worked with climate issues for close to a decade, the partnership with the fan owned club with the aim to incorporate more climate focused policies into the club's plans. In a conversation that had the failed super league in mind, we talked about what it means for a community focused club to take the lead on this issue, the banter which followed his appointment, and Seán's hopes for what football can do to tackle the coming climate crisis. A fascinating conversation which tackled everything from the decline of trade union support to what football club's can do in their communities. In a lighter episode, we sat down with the guys from the Field of Screens pod to discuss the infamous FIFA propaganda film, United Passions. Recorded on the Monday of the ill fated SuperLeague attempt, we looked for some beauty in the story of a few men, who's only dream was that the whole world would play football by the same rules and regulations.
