Today I sit down with Phil Demers. Phils animal training career began in 2000 at Marineland where he was a trainer until August 2012. In 2007, Demers became the focus of mass media attention regarding his unique relationship with a captive Pacific walrus named Smooshi. Their relationship garnered the attention of such television programs CBC and Jimmy Kimmel Live. His last two years at Marineland Demers would document and speak up about animal treatment and negligence within the park ultimately resulting in him leaving. Even after 8 years Marineland still pursues legal action against Demers for speaking out. Phil has not seen Smooshi in years.  This conversation is about how Phil dealt with these challenges while continuing to pursue growth as a person and inner peace.
