In this episode, we interview Dr. Cameron and Dr. Hiebert about their work on terrorism and genocide, respectively. You might think that because they grapple with the darkest forms of political behaviour in their academic work that they would be insensitive to the comparatively minor struggles of graduate student life, but you would be wrong! Tune in to hear about how life experiences can shape academic interests, alternative paths through grad school, and the value of a supportive supervisor...
In this episode, we wax-philosophic with Dr. Cooper and Dr. Goldstein (our supervisors!) about their work on love, violence, magic, and Paleolithic politics among other things. If you want to know what it takes to be a political philosopher, look no further. Between these two, they have the History of Political Thought down pat. Bonus: an inside scoop on the history of "The Calgary School" and how the department has changed over the years.
In this episode, we had a chance to sit down with Drs Susan Frenceschet and Brenda O'Neill and talk about their wonderful contributions to scholarship on Gender & Politics, Women & Politics, and so much more!
In this episode, we sit down with Drs Voth and Starblanket to talk about their visions for the department's Indigenous Studies program, why academia matters, and who should think about graduate school. Sit down and take some time to listen to these two young, energetic scholars talk about it all!
In this interview, we are talking to Dr Rice and Dr Policzer about their passion for field research and the importance of rigour. Both Professors are important contributors to Latin American and Indigenous studies research dialogues. Any students interested in these fields should definitely listen to this!
We were lucky enough to kick off our podcast interviews with Dr Lucas and Dr Tuxhorn, both of whom are what we sometimes refer to as "quants," but don't let that fool you––both of them have many added tools in their academic toolboxes! Dr Jack Lucas is an Associate Professor who has been with the department for 5 years and Dr Kim-Lee Tuxhorn is an Assistant Professor who has been a part of our department for 4 years. Welcome to the Seventh Floor.
This introductory podcast sets out our reasons for creating it in the first place! As two graduate students, we are passionate about our department and the opportunities it offers. So, we decided to take the leap into the world of podcasts to talk about it.
