Depending on your background, your definition of "Good People" can vary widely. Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." So there are no good/innocent people in this world as defined by scripture. We're all the same, we're all fallen. We must all accept Jesus and repent of our sins in order to go to Heaven. Tune into this episode where we answer the age old question "Do Good People Go To Heaven?"
The basis of our faith revolves around the authenticity and truth of scripture. Without that truth, our faith doesn’t have anything to stand on, so it’s important that we understand how and why we believe the Bible is trustworthy.  Voddie Baucham- “I choose to believe The Bible because it is a reliable collection of historical documents, written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses, reporting supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claimed their writings are Divine and not of human origin.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1XJ7DeR5fc Throughout history, when the Bible is put to the test, it is proven true in every area. This truth extends to the spiritual as well. When the Bible shows some historical truth we can believe it just like we can believe Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” and that Jesus is our personal savior if we believe in Him.

We're back at The Signpost! This week, we're looking at Apologetics and how to defend our faith to others. Apologetics is Greek and the root word Apologia basically means to give an account or defense of something. R.C. Sproul, a Christian Apologetics theologist said apologetics is “the science to provide an intellectual defense for the truth claims of the Christian faith. Its aim is to understand what you believe so you know why you believe it.”  1 Peter 3:15 sums it up very well saying “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.”

We are called to evangelize our inner circles and beyond (Matthew 28:19-20). One of the easiest ways to get friends, family and co-workers, to attend church could just be to ask them with a personal invite, especially around the holidays. In this episode, we will be talking about how to invite others to church, the best ways to go about it, and how to handle the rejection when someone turns down an invite.
As we wrap up our interview series on “Is God Good?” we talk to our good friend Lee Anne Greene who has battled cancer twice and dealt with many struggles. She relied on her faith in Jesus to get her through those situations and came out stronger in faith and in Christ in the end. Let’s learn from her example on how we should behave in those moments of struggle and turn to Christ and lean on Him for everything.
In today's episode of The Signpost, Grace (sister), Jen (wife) and Lisa (mother) share their story of their brother, husband and son, Reid Oliphant who passed away at the young age of 28 in 2020 due to colorectal cancer. They share his story and their story and how they've seen that God is still good even in the midst of struggles and pain. Their prayer is that through their story that you would see the goodness of the Lord and that you would seek to remain grounded in the truths of the Lord. Psalm 107:1-9: Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,    for his steadfast love endures forever!Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,    whom he has redeemed from trouble[a]and gathered in from the lands,    from the east and from the west,    from the north and from the south. Some wandered in desert wastes,    finding no way to a city to dwell in;hungry and thirsty,    their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,    and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way    till they reached a city to dwell in.Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,    for his wondrous works to the children of man!For he satisfies the longing soul,    and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
In today’s episode of The Signpost podcast Kasey and Lauryl Redfern share their story on how they know that God is good even in the midst of a shocking and devastating diagnosis. Both Kasey and Lauryl are proud parents, proud business owners, and fitness gurus. Whenever they are not running their Marquee Light and coffee businesses, you can find them in the local F45, where Kasey is also a coach. You rarely see Kasey, Lauryl, and the two boys without a smile because of how much they love and cherish life. Around the time of a family trip to Disney World in the spring of 2023, Kasey began noticing some differences in his ability to do mundane tasks. At the recommendation of a Nurse Practitioner friend, Kasey went to the emergency room where he was dealt an unimaginable diagnosis. At the hospital, Kasey was told that he had a mass on the front side of his brain and that it was most likely Lymphoma. This is an extremely rare diagnosis for anyone that is young, but especially someone as in shape as Kasey. In this moment, Kasey and Lauryl found themselves in the midst of a storm that no young dad and mom ever dream of. We find in their story of how being grounded in the faith played an integral role in their response to a diagnosis that seemed insurmountable. Kasey and Lauryl truly embody a couple who have lived out Psalm 23 by walking the valley of the shadow of death. Listen to their story as they explain how they know that God is good, even when the world would say there is no reason to believe such a thing. Their prayer is that through their story that you would see the goodness of the Lord and that you would seek to remain grounded in the truths of the Lord. Kasey’s life verse: James 1:2-18, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.”
In this episode Kathy Dalton shares her story on how she knows that God is good even in the most difficult times of life. Kathy and Daryl Dalton embodied the servanthood of Christ in many ways at First Baptist Spartanburg for years. They loved the Lord, loved their children, and loved their church. If you knew Kathy and Daryl, you knew that they carried an inexpressible joy about life that could only be counted as a mark of a Christ follower. On April 20, 2016, days after suffering a major heart attack on the way to the hospital, Daryl went to be with Jesus. Kathy found herself, as a recent empty nester, alone without the one person who had been constant in her life for decades. Her spiritual walk became a spiritual battle as she wrestled with the devastation of losing her husband Daryl so suddenly and in that moment felt distant from the Lord. As Kathy will describe, God used many people in her life, many songs in her life, His comforting touch, and His Scriptures to assure her that no matter what; God is still good. Kathy now lives in Georgia near her daughter, son-in-law, and one of her grand babies; along with her two dogs who you may hear once or twice during this episode! Our prayer is that you will be encouraged to seek Jesus in every moment of your life through Kathy’s story. Psalm 27:13-14,” I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
