How does a 12-year-old girl disappear from her best friend's house on the day of the local fair? Who could be responsible her going missing? Why was her homework found miles away on the farm where that same best friend kept her horse? And how did the case of Christina White's disappearance become the lynchpin to discovering that a serial killer was lurking in the Lewis-Clark Valley of Idaho and Washington State? We seek to answer these questions with Allison Dickson of the Vintage Villains podcast in this True Crime Bonus Episode. Contact me at silverliningshandbookpod@gmail.com. Actor Alec Baldwin was on trial for involuntary manslaughter in July. Then, he wasn't. We are joined by Erlinda Ocampo Johnson, the special prosecutor who resigned from the case out of concerns about the prosecution withholding vital information from the defense. We discuss the case, Erlinda's decision, the special obligation prosecutors have to justice and how her family's immigration from Nicaragua during its civil war shaped her view that a justice system is only as good as the number of people who are willing to stand up for its ideals. A ransacker stalked a small city in California, breaking into 120 homes in 20 months. Two hundred and twenty miles away, three years later, a man committed 50 home-invasion rapes. Three years after that and 300 miles to the south, a series of at least 11 murders occurred. Former FBI Profiler Julia Cowley, the host of The Consult podcast and lead profiler on the case, joins us to discuss the man who would be linked to the seemingly dissimilar crimes, Joe DeAngelo, who turned out to be the Visalia Ransacker, the East Area Rapist, the Original Nightstalker and a one-man machine of terror now known as the Gold State Killer. Julie talks about how law enforcement was able to connect each of those sets of crimes and identify the former mechanic and police officer, DeAngelo, who is now serving 12 life sentences. Belonging plays such a key role in attracting and retaining talent. Creating environments where people are free to bring their entire self to work and feel welcome is a crucial leadership attribute. It is the key to successfully achieving inclusive environment when there are a diverse range of people in that environment. There is a ton of psychological research going back to Maslow about belonging and aspects of it and as the business world has embraced the concept there has been a lot of more recent research in the last couple of decades. John Mitchell, an executive coach, attorney and the founder of KM Advisors joins for a discussion that goes broader than lawyers and deeper than work and goes into our sense of belonging. We share a belief that better leaders do make better lives for employees and organizations, and better employees and organizations lead to a better world, but we also believe that there's so much more to life than work. Today we're going to talk about building and finding a sense of belonging.
