College Football Week 7 is upon us, and we're diving deep into what might be the steeliest slate of the season. This isn't about flashy plays or explosive offenses—this week belongs to the teams willing to do the dirty work in the trenches. After walking back through some extra thoughts on Alabama-Mizzou, Ohio State-Illinois and Indiana-Oregon, we get down to business. In this episode, we break down every major matchup and the debates get heated as we disagree on nearly every pick, including whether Oklahoma can shock Texas, if Auburn can pull the upset in Jordan-Hare, and which team controls the trenches in Michigan vs USC. Plus, we preview BYU-Arizona, Iowa State-Colorado, and a loaded slate of under-the-radar games that could shape the playoff picture. Plus, as a special treat, ESPN's Chris Fowler joins us to discuss the season's biggest surprises, why he misses calling games out West, and more. We also get his take on the unpredictability of this college football season and what makes a great broadcast moment. We're fired up for another week of bangers in Week 7! In this episode, we dive deep into three massive games: Ohio State's travels to Illinois, Alabama faces a rested Mizzou team, and Indiana takes on Oregon in a top-10 showdown with College GameDay in town. But before the picks, we walk back through our leftover thoughts from an eventful Week 6, reveal the latest Verballer Top 12, react to the latest AP Poll, make a case for Michigan as a sneaky Big Ten contender, talk through some way-too-early tiebreaker scenarios in the ACC and Big 12, and more! We thought Week 6 would be quiet. We were wrong. Dead wrong. Three top 15 teams fell to unranked opponents in what might be the most chaotic Saturday of the season. We dive deep into Penn State's shocking 42-37 loss to UCLA—a team that fired its coach just days earlier. The loss raises serious questions about James Franklin's future despite his $50+ million buyout. Can this relationship be salvaged? We also break down Florida's inspired 29-21 upset of Texas in The Swamp, where the Gators' defense sacked Arch Manning six times and exposed flaws in the Longhorns' offensive line. Plus, Miami continues to look like a legitimate contender with a dominant road win over Florida State, powered by freshman sensation Malachi Toney and an elite defensive front. Beyond the headline upsets, we analyze Alabama's methodical win over Vanderbilt, Cincinnati's offensive explosion against Iowa State, Bryce Underwood's career day against Wisconsin, and what all this chaos means for the playoff picture. To close things out, Ty reveals his updated top 12 rankings, we answer live Verballer questions about Ohio State inevitability, the best G6 teams, and the champions of NIL, and finally, hand out Dude Alerts to standouts like Bear Bachmeier, Dallas Wilson, and Ty Simpson. Welcome to Week 6, the start of Cocktober. We dive into a slate that's loaded with opportunities for offenses to establish themselves (or for underdogs to sneak in and steal one). We circle back and discuss the two biggest games of the weekend: Vandy traveling to Alabama and Miami making their first road trip to face Florida State in Tallahassee. Both have baggage, both feature ranked teams, and both could shake up the playoff picture. From there, we explore the sneaky-important matchups that nobody's talking about enough: Iowa State's trip to Cincinnati, Kansas State trying to bounce back at Baylor, and Texas facing a desperate Florida team in The Swamp. We also hit on Notre Dame's chance to make a statement against Boise State, the letdown potential for Illinois, and why we're believers in some serious home dog action this week (looking at you, Cal and Virginia). Plus, we've got our weekly Pat League lookahead, a breakdown of the optimal quad setup for Saturday, and a look at the Taylor Swift curse, bear coat turnover props, and more. We're back from an incredible trip to State College, and we've got a lot of college football to unpack, starting with the news that Sam Pittman has been fired at Arkansas. With Bobby Petrino taking over as interim head coach, we discuss the likely candidates to permanently replace Pittman, including Rhett Lashlee, GJ Kinne, John Sumrall, Deion Sanders, and others. From there, we dive deep into conference power rankings for all four major conferences. We go team-by-team through the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, and Big 12, making some calls that'll probably upset you. We disagree on Georgia's placement after their home loss to Alabama, try to make sense of ACC chaos beyond Miami, figure out which Big 12 teams are actually good, and weirdly agree on a relatively orderly Big Ten. We also share stray thoughts from Week 5 games we didn't get to discuss in detail—Ohio State's dominant defense, Ole Miss looking legit, LSU's offensive struggles, the USC-Illinois thriller, and why Mississippi State deserves more respect. Finally, we break down two massive Week 6 matchups with early predictions. For Vanderbilt at Alabama, we explain why this revenge game might not go the way most expect. And for Miami at Florida State, we discuss why this spread has dropped significantly and why we're both taking the Seminoles with the points in their first true test. Finally, we share our completely unfiltered experience from Penn State's Whiteout game between Oregon and Penn State. The crowd was ear-splitting and incredible—truly one of the best environments in college football. From the tailgate scene to the in-game atmosphere to the postgame chaos, we give you the full State College experience. Join us for a very different reaction episode from an undisclosed audio bunker a few blocks south of College Avenue in State College, PA. In this college football podcast episode, we relive our experience at the Oregon-Penn State Whiteout game, the moments that won it for the Ducks and the ways that the Nittany Lions came back from the dead from a 14-point deficit to send the game into overtime. Plus, we give our snap judgement on other results around the country and listen to an all star batch of Reverbs.Support the show!: https://www.patreon.com/solidverbalSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Week 5 is absolutely loaded with monster games, and we're headed to Happy Valley for the Penn State-Oregon whiteout! In this college football podcast episode, we take another deep dive into the three biggest matchups of the weekend: Oregon at Penn State in what promises to be an electric atmosphere, Alabama traveling to Georgia in a crucial SEC showdown, and LSU heading to Oxford to face Ole Miss in another must-watch conference battle. Beyond those headliners, we wonder if Ohio State might be in danger at Washington, whether USC can prove they're for real on the road at Illinois, if Notre Dame can stop Taylen Green, and if Auburn is trapped in perpetual limbo after another close loss. We also examine Indiana's statement opportunity at Iowa and dive into several intriguing home underdogs. We also take a look at the latest news with Mike Gundy's sudden dismissal at Oklahoma State and John Mateer's thumb injury potentially sidelining Oklahoma's quarterback for up to a month. Finally, we break down our Under the Radar Games worth watching, map out your optimal afternoon viewing quad for maximum entertainment, and identify the small window of opportunity to get errands done before the day's best action kicks off. We're gearing up for a monster slate of games in Week 5 and our trip to the massive Penn State-Oregon contest this weekend. But first, we start with the news, including a tough season-ending injury for Syracuse QB Steve Angeli, a fine for the Orange for faking injuries, and the SEC's official ruling on Oklahoma's controversial trick-play touchdown. We also touch on the SEC's newly announced annual opponents for the next four years and share the heartbreaking news of former App State coach Shawn Clark's unexpected passing. Then, we dive into the latest AP and Verballer Top 12 polls, breaking down the disparities and debating which teams are ranked too high or too low as we enter Week 5. From there, we ask whether we've seen enough to truly believe in five discussion-worthy teams: Florida State, Miami, Indiana, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma. And finally, we turn our attention to a loaded Week 5 schedule, giving our full breakdowns and predictions for the three biggest matchups of the weekend (No. 4 LSU at No. 13 Ole Miss, No. 7 Alabama at No. 4 Georgia, and No. 3 Oregon at No. 5 Penn State). It turns out that College Football Week 4 delivered some interesting tests! In this episode, we break down what it all means, from the rise of Texas Tech's impressive defensive showing against Utah to Indiana's demolition of Illinois and Oklahoma's win over Auburn. Plus, a closer look at why TCU should be on your radar, how Michigan can get the most out of its offense, what we learned about Miami in their win over Florida, and what Clemson's 1-3 start means for Dabo Sweeney. We also talk through a crazy interesting day in the Big 12, Memphis's run at the CFP, looming questions about Chris Ash and Notre Dame's defense, and more. We're calling it "Sock'em in the Mouth Saturday" – and for good reason. Week 4 has all the makings of a weekend where untested favorites get their first real taste of adversity. In this college football podcast episode, we dive deep into how teams might respond facing their first legitimate punch in the mouth. We circle back on games discussed earlier in the week (Texas Tech vs TCU, Auburn vs Oklahoma, Illinois vs Indiana) and pose the most important questions about other marquee matchups in Week 4. Can a struggling Florida team find any answers on the road against a red-hot, in-state rival in Miami? Is this the weekend that Nebraska officially joins the Big Ten and CFP discussion with a win over Michigan? In the Battle for the Iron Skillet, should we expect another 100-point shootout between SMU and TCU, or can either questionable defense find a way to make a game-winning stop? And in a classic "styles make fights" matchup, will Baylor's undeniable offense be enough to overcome its struggling run defense, or can Arizona State control the clock and grind out a win on the road? We ask the important questions for all the biggest matchups. We also hand out our locks of the week (what could go wrong?) and break down why this might be the optimal weekend to plant yourself in front of the TV all afternoon. Finally, we discuss why USC might be the biggest wildcard in college football, as Lincoln Riley's squad has quietly assembled all the pieces for a disruptive season, and we break down why the Trojans could be a talking point sooner than later. Plus, we address the Clemson situation after Dabo's animated press conference. Week 3 delivered the kind of college football chaos we live for, and we're here to break it all down. We witnessed Texas A&M pull off a stunning road upset at Notre Dame in a 41-40 thriller that came down to the final seconds, with Marcel Reed and the Aggies finding a way to steal one in South Bend. Meanwhile, Georgia and Tennessee went to overtime in what might have been the game of the week, with Gunner Stockton making an absolutely ridiculous fourth-down throw to tie it at the end of regulation. The madness didn't stop there. We saw Georgia Tech shock Clemson on a walk-off 55-yard field goal, LSU's defense stifle Florida's DJ Lagway in a 20-10 win, and the next chapter in Vanderbilt's surprising start with a dominant road win at South Carolina. From the SEC's wild weekend to surprising performances across every conference, we're breaking down all the biggest storylines, unexpected heroes, and what it all might for the playoff picture. We're just a few weeks into the college football season and the picture is just starting to come into focus. In this college football podcast episode, we react to the latest AP Poll and our own Verballer Top 12 rankings, questioning whether voters are being bold enough with early-season movement. Should teams like USF be ranked higher after their impressive wins? And are teams like Penn State and Georgia too high? We also bring back our beloved "Dunzo or Not Dunzo" segment to evaluate teams -- Arizona State, Kansas State, Virginia Tech and others -- that might already be cooked relative to preseason expectations. Finally, we dive deep into three massive Week 3 matchups: Georgia at Tennessee in a battle of undefeateds, Florida trying to bounce back at LSU in Death Valley, and Texas A&M visiting Notre Dame in what could be a statement game for both programs. In this college football podcast episode, we dive deep into a wild Week 2 that left fan bases across the country questioning everything they thought they knew about their teams. Oklahoma's Jon Mateer looked like a folk hero in Norman, leading the Sooners to a convincing 24-13 victory over Michigan that showcased his incredible elusiveness and game management skills. Meanwhile, we break down what this win means for Brent Venables' program as they prepare for a murderous SEC schedule ahead. But the upset of the day belonged to USF, who stunned Florida 18-16 in The Swamp with a last-second field goal. We take a look at what this loss means for Billy Napier's future in Gainesville and whether the Gators can recover from such a devastating home defeat. Plus, we cover the wild shootout between Baylor and SMU that went to double overtime, Army's shocking upset of Kansas State, and how teams like Penn State and Georgia looked surprisingly sluggish despite comfortable wins. From Missouri's Border War victory to Illinois' impressive road performance at Duke and Arizona State's road loss at Missisippi State, we give you our instant reactions to all the biggest storylines from a weekend that reminded us why college football remains beautifully unpredictable. How should this affect our read on the Wolverines in 2025? Any chance either of you are attending the East-West Shrine Bowl practices or Reese's Senior Bowl practices? Big fan on yours and would enjoy meeting you in-person. I got media credentials for the first time, so I've decided what any other rational person would do. I am going to try and set a world record for driving 1,787 miles in under 120-hours to visit 5 SEC West stadiums while also covering 4 bowl practices.
