Angela Davis, An autobiography.  Classic on the life of Black feminist Angela Davis Viktor E. Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning.  Exploration of the concept of Logotherapy and Viktor Frankl's experience while in a Nazi death camp.  Resiliency E. Franklin Frazier, Black Bourgeoisie:  A classic on the analysis of Black middle class. Enjoyed for the historical account of Black class in America. Thich Nhat Hanh, Old Path White Clouds.  Enjoyed for the historical account of the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha Bell hooks, Ain't I a woman: Black women and feminism.  This classical work includes more than just a description of Black feminism, it also examines the relationship between race, gender, and class, Bell hooks, Sisters of the Yam: Black women and self-recovery.   Enjoyed its descriptions of the lives of Black women and lessons on understanding and survival. Harold Mosak; Michael Maniacci, A Primer of Adlerian Psychology.  A wonderful overview of principles of Adlerian Psychology. Patricia Reid-Merritt, D.S.W., Sister Power: How Phenomenal Black women are rising to the top.  One of the first books I read as an adult specifically discussed the challenges Black women face as they strive toward power. Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.  I read this book the summer before my freshman year of high school.  I think the story of the family's struggle somehow paralleled where I was in my life and in some way provided a sense of hope. Beverly Daniel Tatum, Ph.D. Why are all the Black kids sitting together in the cafeteria? and other conversations about race. :  Wonderful exploration of race from a developmental perspective and examine of race beyond Black and White.
