Campfires were the watering hole for the outdoorsmen for as long as we have pursued the outdoors. Whether hunting or fishing, outdoorsmen would gather around a fire to share wisdom, experiences, food, and shelter. The legend and lore of American Icons like Daniel Boone, Mr. Fox, and Will Primos were born around campfires. In the modern era legendary camps like Kings Ranch, Shumulla, and Cottonmouth provided readers with a steady stream of stories written by outdoor writers who experienced legendary adventures. We believe that the outdoors community is at its best when the spirit of Hunt Camp thrives and we aim to restore that in a world that feels largely divided and Hunt Camp lost to the times.
The Southern Collective is composed of consummate outdoorsmen who’s roots stretch across the Deep South and believe in Hunt Camp. We are bringing it back by hosting hunting camps across the South, creating relatable content to the southern outdoorsman, and by creating a Digital Hunt Camp for those times when we can’t be in the great outdoors.

We're bringing back the Kill Switch series this weekend with an episode with our buddy, and member of Digital Deer Camp Kyle Huffstutler. When we had the idea for the Killswitch series this summer, Kyle was one of the first people who came to mind, because we all got to see the "switch" flip in real time during the 2023/2024 deer season when he connected on a huge Alabama 13 point. Kris Eastridge is back for Part 2! We're keeping the Weekend Warrior series rolling with Kris this week for part 2 and it's definitely worth the wait. In part 1, we really only scratched the surface of how Kris uses his limited time and heavy work schedule to be an efficient "Weekend Warrior". In this episode, Kris dives deeper into how he scouts and hunts, talking mostly about SMZs, or Stream Management Zones. If you're from the deep south, you know that so much of the property is used for logging and timber harvest. While some might see this as a misfortune, it doesn't change the fact that if you want to be successful in the south, especially on public land, you're better off knowing how to hunt this type of habitat.

This week Parker sits down with Jordan Pope of Arrows Anonymous to talk bows, tuning, arrows, and of course chasing big southern public land whitetails. Pope has never had a rich history of keeping his opinions to himself. What you see is what you get, and we've always appreciated that about him. As we all begin to get fired up about deer season, Parker and Pope reflect on some previous podcast conversations they'd had back in the Southern Ground days dealing with a giant 150" public land buck that Pope killed several years ago after targeting him all year. As the years have passed, Jordan has learned the difficulty of trying to replicate the same storyline of finding a giant, learning him, and killing him on public land in the South. And if it is repeatable, is the juice even worth the squeeze down here?

Parker & Walt sit down with a true weekend warrior, Kris Eastridge. Between having 4 kids, a wife, a time demanding full-time job, and a passion for chasing mature bucks... it's a wonder he has time to breathe. That said, Kris definitely gets it done year in and year out with usually only 2 days a week to hunt. We hear a lot of folks say "it's impossible to be consistent with only weekends to hunt", and we think it's time to stop making excuses. Be like Kris.
