86. Geek Charming: A Reverse She’s All That (with Special Guest Helen)

Ah and over here we have one of the most dangerous species in the animal kingdom, the popular high school rich girl. Be careful listeners, one wrong look and she could destroy your entire social life. Okay so maybe this movie isn’t about filming a nature documentary but it’s about a documentary so I had to take the opportunity. That’s right we’re getting our cameras rolling and preparing our acceptance speeches as we continue 2011 on the DCOM train with the modern (at the time) take on a teen movie by discussing Geek Charming. Though we aren’t alone in this discussion as we welcome brand new guest to the podcast Helen to help us tackle this movie and the hidden depth to it. Jake calls out Netflix, Kate volunteers to take on the pitch that Josh didn’t, Helen explains how she learned about cinema from this movie, and all of them discuss possible topics that a paper on this film could explore. Poets, geniuses, revolutionaries, The Start of Something New podcast has been called… well honestly none of these things, but come on that opening narration is way too iconic for me not to reference here. So I hope everyone is ready to turn up the music and crack open a nice cold can of definitely expired lemonade as we talk about the 2011 musical DCOM hit Lemonade Mouth. Jake discusses how this is Disney’s version of The Breakfast Club, Kate speaks her truth about lemonade, and both of them spend a good amount of time praising the main cast of this movie and discussing what this movie signifies for their own personal DCOM journeys.
