There's something to be said for the bull in the china shop approach. It's how I started my first business and it's how my guest today started hers. Head down, trying 20 things to see what sticks, then doubling down when it does. Bull in a china shop. Because I don't know about you, but I'm prone to overthinking and if you leave me to my own devices I will just THINK about my ideas and never ACT on them. So it's important that I'm always taking ACTION rather than getting stuck in the planning. Maybe you can relate? I have bad news—it’s not enough to just want something. I know, it’s a real bummer, but the truth is, I see so many aspiring entrepreneurs telling me how much they want their business to work, how they want more clients, want more money, want to have great impact, but when I ask them what they’re doing now they have a vague, ambiguous answer. And when I ask what they’ll do differently to make sure the results are different, the answer is usually, “I don’t know.” And that…is not the foundation of a successful business. Sometimes it feels like, despite your best efforts,  the world is against you and that even though you are putting in soooo much work, you’re not getting anywhere. And so, the negativity sets in. Despite your best efforts to stay positive, you fall into the habit of thinking that maybe you just aren’t cut out for this. Maybe entrepreneurship isn’t for you. Maybe you should just go back to your 9-5. And I do not want that for you. And I know you don’t either. So first, let’s recognize this for what it is. This is fear and frustration plain and simple. It sucks to feel like you’re burning yourself out all in the name of nothing. But we can fix this. Because as much as it feels SO difficult in the moment, there are a few simple tweaks that will help you begin to overcome it, and begin to shift what’s not working into what is. Listen, no one freezes up more when it comes to words like “funnels” and “ads” than me. When I started my business I felt SO overwhelmed with the idea of niching down. It felt like one wrong move and the whole business was going to come tumbling down. This is not your typical reflection episode. 2020 sucked. I mean it just did. In a lot of ways, it straight up was a miserable year. I don’t need to remind you of all the reasons why. But without all the chaos, all the challenges, all the stretching of boundaries, can you really say you’d be here today? Do you think you would have started your business? Do you think you’d have dared to dream a better life for yourself? Or would you have stayed stuck? Stayed in your excuses? Stayed in your comfort zone. (we know nothing transformative happens there) I’m willing to bet, you would have. Now 2021—it’s all about hope It’s about taking everything you’ve learned in 2020 and building on it. It’s the year you quit your 9-5 Start your business Scale your business It’s the year you finally say YES to yourself and stop putting your dreams on hold.
