In this episode, I sat down with Chris Hinshaw - coach to hundreds of athletes around the world, most notably the top finishers at the CrossFit Games the past several years. He's coached Mat Fraser, Rich Froning, Katrín Davíðsdóttir... the list goes on. We talk about how he started coaching all of these wonderful athletes and how he had to prove himself to get there. You'll quickly see why Chris is a thought-leader in the aerobic/endurance arena - he's a wealth of knowledge and never stops learning. I sat down one early Monday morning to chat with Dave Rupert about life in Austin and at his company, Paravel. This is the second episode in the Creators Series where I chat with content creators from across the web. Adam Wathan is no stranger to creating products that provide real value for web developers. With the recent release of his latest book, we chat about how he co-wrote with another author, testing your ideas before launching them, and how he got his start as a self-employed full stack developer. We had a great chat all about creating content, Tailwind css, his podcast, and even his history with competitive weightlifting! One thing that really stood out for me was how he likes to "work in public" in order to market his ideas. I sat down with full-stack developer, Scott Tolinski. He's the creator of Level Up Tutorials and host of the web development podcast, Syntax.fm. In our chat we discover what led Scott to start making video tutorials and how he grew his YouTube following to over 250K. He tells me about his break dancing career (super interesting) and what he's working on as a full time, self employed content creator. Talk about turning points in your life - Andy had a soccer injury in high school which is how he ended up at a chiropractor. But it wasn't his back that was hurting, it was his knee! The chiropractor instantly helped his knee feel better - and this was the turning point that made him say, "I want to do this". That single moment shaped the entire path for Dr. Andy Wright's life. During our conversation we cover the typical injuries that happen for people with desk jobs as well as active people who work out regularly. Andy offers his insight into which parts of the spine are often injured the most as well as how to protect those areas. A few of the things we talk about during the show are foam rollers, lacrosse balls, and even a kneeling chair. Nutrition is another topic we dive into. Dr. Andy does a specific test to find food allergies. This test identifies foods that can cause inflammation in your body. The typical culprits being dairy, nuts, eggs, grains, soy. It's an interesting perspective on what food can do to our bodies and why we should care.

Will started as a web programmer back in the early 2000's. Then he discovered the power of video when it comes to marketing and branding. He's never looked back since. We dive into his incredible story with some really great insights toward the end of the show about living a productive life without stress. He also describes how he has built his client list and how he says no to the wrong clients. One of the biggest lessons to take from this episode is being selective with your clients. Don't take on every client that has a check in their hand, without first making sure their values align with yours. This leads to a much less stressful work environment. So often in the web industry we don't do this. We live a fear based career whereas the question, "how will I get paid next month" constantly lives in the back of your mind. I sat down with Jem Young, Senior Software Engineer at Netflix. Jem also teaches programming and is co-host of a podcast called the Front End Happy Hour. In this episode, I called up Noah Ohlsen to chat about his recent CrossFit Atlantic Regionals Victory and hear more about how he trains for competitions, his nutrition schedule and tracking, and his recovery process. We try to distill his favorite methods into something the everyday athlete can do in their own life. Show Notes There's always doubt that can arise when trying to be the best. When preparing for a big event, butterflies are natural. They occur before the event for Noah, but once he's there - it's game time and he's ready to go. Noah's sleep routine includes using special glasses from Felix Gray that block blue light from devices (phones, TV's, etc) and help your circadian rhythm. When tracking food, Noah uses the MyFitnessPal app to record his macros. He realizes that recording and tracking every single thing you eat and do can make you go crazy (especially for the non-athlete) so he tries to not put too much pressure on it. Noah's capacity for work (aerobic capacity, etc) has greatly improved since he started training. His "Grace" time was around 5 minutes when he started CrossFit. It's now just over 1 minute! For reference: Grace is a workout for time where the athlete performs 30 Clean and Jerks. Noah has over 25K YouTube subscribers. After receiving a tip from a friend who is a pro "YouTuber" he decided to start a channel and promote his Videos. The "Happy But Hungry" slogan came from his coach, who said Noah always had a sh*t eating grin. Noah said, "Sure, I'm happy. But that doesn't mean I'm satisfied. I'm still hungry for more." From there the slogan was born. Noah's favorite recovery techniques include: Electric Stem (Marc Pro) Normatec (to flush the "junk" - he also recommends going for a walk to flush the toxins) Romwod - everyday stretching to keep limber and help with recovery Eating properly (and enough Carbs) Sleep!
