Description
The success series podcast is all about the secrets, recipes, and philosophies of some of the world’s most famous and successful people—composers, actors, actresses, entrepreneurs, authors, painters, investors, philosophers, journalists, scientists, and so on. Each episode features one person, and typically 7-10 pieces of advice.
These podcasts don't feature interviews done by us; instead we comb the interwebs for any recordings and audio clips that already exist, analyse them, and then separate the wheat from the chaff. These podcasts are the wheat.

’Tis time for another Game of Thrones star to be the subject of one of our episodes. Yes, today show features advice from the great Jon Snow — or, as he is known in real life, Kit Harington.
Kit, whose actual name is Christopher, is an English actor and producer. Most of you will know him from Game of Thrones, in which, since day one, played the role of Jon Snow, who today, is the main character. 2017 saw the release of the penultimate season. The series will conclude with its eighth season in 2019.
If rumour is correct — and very plausible rumour at that — his role in this series, which is one of the most successful TV series ever, has made him one of the highest earning TV actors in the world: in 2017 Kit reportedly earned £2 million per episode. Not bad, ey?
His other films include Pompeii, Silent Hill: Revelation, playing the voice of Eret in How to Train your Dragon 2, and Testament of Youth. At just 31 years of age, it seems there is plenty more to come from the man.

Jordan Peterson. Surely you know who he is by now? Let this be an intro to those who are unfamiliar, and a reminder to those who are. He is a clinical psychologist with over two decades of deep-in-the-trenches experience; a tenured professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto; and a truly brilliant, remarkably well-learned, precisely-spoken and very deep character. Ever since his first podcast with Joe Rogan back in late 2016, he has been somewhat of an internet sensation—but a sensation that in no way resembles the typical, internet sensation. In that podcast he discussed a couple of things that had recently put him in the spotlight: one was his opposition to Canadian laws ordering people do address people by their freely chosen pronouns (and there were something like 70 to learn); and the other was how he had been attacked, bordering on the physical, by a number of ignoramus university students who were trying to destroy his reputation: the irony, course, is because the exchange was recorded, they caused his reputation grow rather exponentially.
Whilst the podcast was originally about that, as Jordan spoke to Joe, it became obvious to listeners that there was much more to this man than the typical guest, much, much more. Fast track to today and he has hundreds of millions of views on Youtube, a thriving Patreon account, a massive and loyal following on a number of different platforms across the web, a new best-selling book, and a different scale of responsibility; but it is a responsibility that he both deserves and can handle. Jordan’s lectures and books have changed the lives of, by now, millions of people—heck, just listening to one of his podcasts opens your eyes and juices you into taking action—as you’re about to find out.
Seen as there is so much out there from Jordan—not about him, but actually from the man himself—you would think distilling some of it down into a short podcast would be a walk in the park; but that would be a mistake. It seems that everything Jordan says has utility—and he has a lot to say, and has said a lot, which means that discrimination is difficult. Nevertheless, we have produced something for you, which we think will be very helpful: even if you listen to only 1/3.

Who is the world’ greatest footballer — now, and ever? Well, it seems everyone you ask has a different opinion: you’ll hear Messi, Neymar, Kane, Ronaldo, Zidane, Cantona, Best, Ronaldinho, Maradona, Hazard, Iniesta, Pele, Charlton, and so on, and so on. But whatever the opinion if these people, all of them, deep down they cannot deny the genius of a man we have the pleasure of witnessing on our screens every week: the portuguese superstar and Real Madrid frontman, Cristiano Ronaldo. In my opinion, he is the best today and the best to ever grace the field: the unique combination of talent, insane work ethic, grit, charisma, confidence, professionalism and unmatched consistency, it is hard to argue, puts him ahead of the other most popular name given, Lionel Messi.
After spending several years at Manchester United, under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, where he became a superstar, he moved to Real Madrid in 2009 for what at the time was a world-record fee, £80 million.
At 33 years of age, he doesn’t appear to be slowing down. He has said, in the past, that body permitting, he would play into his forties. Only time will tell.

Today’s show features words of wisdom from the mighty Peter Dinklage. If you don’t know the name, you’ll certainly know the face. You may know him as the children’s book agent from the film Elf, alongside Will Ferrell, and memorable seen in which he grabbed Will (or rather, Elf) around the neck and tried to strangle him. You may know him as Bulivar Trask from X-Men; Trumpkin, from The Chronicles of Narnia; or as Eddie Plant, from Pixels. If you haven’t watched any of these movies, and know not of Game of Thrones, then, well, it’s very likely that you are one of Rick Sanchez’s (from Rick and Morty) alien friends from another Galaxy: in which case, go watch Game of Thrones. If you aren’t an alien, then for just how long have you been hiding under a rock. Why Game of Thrones? because it is this show, in which he plays the role of Tyrion Lannister, that so many people have come to love Peter Dinklage.
He has quite an intriguing life story to tell, and you’ll hear quite a bit of it in this podcast; but why you want to hear this is not just for his propensity for storytelling, polarising jokes and distinctive voice, it is because buried in his stories are some very useful home truths, lessons, and lots of practical wisdom. What’s more, because of the way he delivers, they will stick in your head.

If you know not of The Big Bang Theory, then it is possible you have suffered, in recent years, a quite astonishing bout of amnesia. No, not the scientific theory—you know, about how the world began—but the TV show. If you haven’t watched any of the episodes, then no doubt you will have heard about it. Well, the lead actor in that show is Jim Parsons, who plays the one with the IQ of 187, the boaster, the prodigy, the socially inept, Sheldon Cooper; he is also, incidentally, the subject of today’s show.
It may come as a surprise to you that in real life, Jim is not a theoretical physicist researching quantum mechanics and string theory; and nor, thankfully, is he as socially incapable as the man he plays on the screen. For if he was, this episode would not have been possible—and well, you would have missed out on some powerful words of encouragement and practical advice, minus the usual pontification.
For this role as Sheldon, Jim has received four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
Here is, speaking about the illusion of a perfect time, the problems with comparing success, taking risks, true confidence, and the benefits of critique.

Today’s show features a few dope lowdowns from Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, actor and entrepreneur, Aubrey Graham — or as you may know him, Drake.
Some of his most popular songs include One Dance, Passionfruit, and What’s My Name?.
He is somewhat of a record breaker, with the most charted songs (154) among solo artists in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, the most simultaneously charted Hot 100 songs in a single week (24), the most time on the Hot 100 (431 weeks) and the most Hot 100 debuts in a week (21) Drake also has the most number one singles on the Hot Rap Songs, Hot R&B and Rhythmic Charts. Alongside his Grammy Award wins, Drake has won three Juno Awards and six American Music Awards, as well as a record thirteen Billboard Music Awards, while also being one of the most acclaimed rappers of the 21st century.
His music, whilst proving the bulk of his current estimated net worth of $90 million, is not the only pie he has his fingers in: he also has a record label, a clothing line, his own whiskey, restaurant, and he is the global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors.

We’ve done a podcast about her husband, and we’ve done the few female artists that come within an inch of her success, popularity and iconic status. Now it’s time for the women herself. I am taking, of course, about the American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress, Beyoncé. In 2018 it does seem like she has been around forever; but at only 36, there is certainly more to come. But what has she done in those years? Well, a better question would be, what hasn’t she done?
She rose to fame in the late 90s as lead singer of the girl-group Destiny’s Child, which was managed by her father, Mathew Knowles. The group became one of the world’s best-selling girl groups in history. A temporary break saw Beyoncé’s theatrical film debut in Austin Powers, and the release of her debut album, Dangerously in Love, in 2003. If there was ever a pertinent case for the phrase, ’the rest, as they say, is history’, it is this one. Since this album she has gone on to sell a number of wildly successful albums, including I Am… Sasha Fierce, and her most recent, Lemonade.
Almost every millennial can bang out a Beyoncé to 90% accuracy at the drop of a hat, and the reason is that so many of her songs have been massive hits; they are also memorable, uplifting, empowering and timeless. They include All The Single Ladies, Halo, Sweet Dreams, Deja Vu, Beautiful Liar, Irreplaceable, and Crazy In Love.
Throughout her career, she has sold an estimated 100 million records — and that’s not including the 60 million records with the group Destiny’s Child. This solidifies her name as one of the best-selling music artists in history. She has 20 Grammy’s and 24 MTV Video Awards to her name, and is the most nominated artists in history in each of them.

We’ve done his right-hand man, Charlie Munger, now it’s time for the man himself. Yes, today’s show is about the wise words of many times-crowned the world’s richest man and legendary investor, Warren Buffet. He is the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and currently has an estimated net worth of about $85 billion. Over the years—in the format of personal interviews, exclusive documentaries, or his famous Berkshire annual meetups, where he is joined by Charlie Munger—he has given shedloads of advice, and whilst most of it is business/career specific, the overlap onto other areas of life, as you’ll hear, is quite significant.
When asked how he would like to be remembered, Warren always replies ’teacher’: despite being the man who made more money than almost anyone—and out of his armchair—and the man who built one of the most successful conglomerates ever, he wants his legacy to first and foremost to be that of a teacher. Hence, he has given many speeches and revealing interviews over the years. He appears to operate on quite an admirable philosophy: he shares his secrets (well, most of them) despite the risk of competition; and in doing he basically is saying, yes, I can still be better at it than you. Of course, he doesn’t offer all his secrets—such as the precise formula he uses to calculate a company’s worth—but he does offer a large proportion of them. Despite this, he has and continues to outperform pretty much everybody else on the field.
Warren is also a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his gigantic fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

It seems we all know about today’s guest — both for good reasons and bad. He is married to Kim Kardashian; he has a spitting rivalry with Taylor Swift, and somewhat of a beef with Jay-Z and Drake; he calls himself the Steve Jobs of music, and has compared himself to the likes of Einstein and Leonardo Da Vinci. He is a controversial figure, yes, but he has also has talent, and a fantastic work ethic; and, as so often happens when you combine these factors, we have a Marmite effect. Some people love him; some hate him. He is, of course, Kanye West.
Some of his most successful songs include Gold Digger, Heartless, Mercy, and Power. He has an apparent net worth of about $140 million, and the likelihood of that skyrocketing over the next few years is rather high, thanks to a mega-bucks deal with Adidas for his clothing line, Yeezy, which he started in 2015.
What follows are 7 lessons from Kanye, including about how we deals with hate, about the power of speaking your own mind, walking the talk, following your dreams and appreciating every moment.

The man today is Mr Sean Combs — or as you may know him, Puff Daddy, Love, or most likely, P. Diddy. He is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, and entrepreneur. He has a net worth of about $820 million, making him the richest hip-hop figure in the world — though Jay Z is right behind him, as is Dr Dre. The race to the first hip-hop billionaire is a tight one, but if you were going to put money of someone, it may indeed by Diddy.
His most popular tracks in include It’s All About The Benjamins, Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down, and his brilliant and timeless version of I’ll Be Missing You.
In this episode we have 11 sections, dedicated to a particular piece of advice or an idea that Diddy has expressed in interviews when asked about his life, career, and philosophy. You’ll hear him talking about the benefits of trying lots of things, especially when you’re young; about failure, and how it is both inevitable and essential; the advice, ‘be fearless’, and how it can be misleading; how there are many ways to realise a dream; why he is a forward thinking person; and much more.
So, let’s get to it.

Nǐ hǎo, to the wonderful person about to listen to this podcast. Need I introduce today’s guest? Not really. Nevertheless, he is one of the most recognisable people on the screen—in the world, actually. He is a global superstar, a hero, a true icon; a lively, inspiring, charming and very funny man; he is not just an actor, but a writer, producer, director, stuntman, choreographer, singer, martial artist and philanthropist. He is, of course, the most one and only of one and only’s, Jackie Chan.
You’ll know him for films like Shanghai Noon, Rush Hour, The Karate Kid, and The Spy Next Door; we could go on, but there are quite a few more—over 150, to be precise. In 2015, Forbes magazine estimated his net worth to be in the region of 350 million dollars; and in 2016, he was the second highest paid actor in the world. Second to whom? Dwayne ’The Rock’ Johnson, who has almost been the subject one of our earlier podcasts. You should be able to find that in the same place you found this one.
Back to this episode, let’s now here 8 snippets of worldly wisdom from the man himself.

What is the Success Series Podcast?
The success series podcast is all about the secrets, recipes and philosophies of some of the world’s most famous and successful people—be them composers, actors, actresses, entrepreneurs, authors, painters, investors, philosophers, journalists, scientists—you name it. Each episode features one person, and typically, 7-10 separate pieces of advice.
However, these podcasts are not interviews done by us; what we do instead is comb the internet platforms for any recordings and audio clips that already exist, study them, and then separate the wheat from the chaff. These podcasts, are the wheat—or better put, the audio equivalent of your favourite superfood. Not a fan of superfoods? Then consider them audio equivalent of the food item you can’t live without.

Ti’s time for another podcast of famous-person-advice-deconstruction—or in other words, to hear the best advice of the people we admire on the screen, in the books, in academia, or in today’s case, in comedy. There is something refreshing, inspiring and quite marvellous about the great comedians, which is, that they tell the truth. It is an unfortunate fact about life (or perhaps, fortunate, depending on which way one looks at it) that truth is scary, boring, dull, dry, and essentially the total opposite of story and fiction, which is exciting, simulating, engaging, memorable. But comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK, and a many other brilliant names, rarely tell lies—yes, maybe they over-exaggerate and fictionalise sometimes, but the way you tell a good comedian from a great one is by assessing how they tell the truth. Simply, if they light up the room, tears up stomachs, and soak the floor with tears of laughter, then they are greats.
A specialist in observational comedy, the stand-up comic Jerry Seinfeld is certainly one of those greats. He’s also writer, director, producer and actor; of course, most people will know him from the American sitcom, Seinfeld, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms ever made.
Here he is talking about the creative struggle, the ball-ache that is life, paying attention, dealing with criticism, and on getting old.

The person in question today is the brilliant and vivacious Jennifer Lawrence. You’ll know her for films like Passengers, Mother!, American Hustle and of course, The Hunger Games series. It is the latter, of course, that made her arguably the most recognised women on the screen; she’s often cited as the most successful actress of her generation, and is thus far the only person in acting born in the 90’s to have won an Oscar.
Her films have grossed over 5.5 billion dollars worldwide, and she has an estimated net worth of 110 million dollars (though it’s important to remember we know very little about how accurate these ‘estimates’ are, of course).
She’s also known for her witty sense of humour, straight-to-the-point manner of speech, and distinctive husky voice. Here she is talking about authenticity, intuition, dealing with criticism, learning on the fly, hard work, and much much more.

You’ll know her for songs like ‘Dangerous Women’, ‘One Last Time’ and ‘Problem’. You may also know her as the singer from Disney’s latest version of Beauty and the Beast, or as Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon. Of course, we’re talking about Ariana Grande. She burst onto the scene in 2008, performing in the broadway musical, 13; after that she was cast as Cat in Nickelodeon’s Victorious, a TV series for which she sang the soundtracks, which, in 2011, spelled the beginning of her music career. A star had been born.
As of June 2017, Arian’s music videos had been viewed online more than 9 billion times. Her accolades include three American Music Awards, three MTV Europe Music Awards and four Grammy Award nominations. She was name by Time’s mag as one of the world’s most influential people, back in 2016; and she has an insane following on the socials: currently 57 million on twitter, and 117 million on instagram.
Without further preamble, then, here’s Ariana talking about the ego, the importance of a good team, creative expression and being oneself.
The hardest thing in the world, it seems, is perhaps the most important thing in the world. It is something as close to home as anything. It is taking care of yourself. We run around for our pets, other people, our work — and who suffers? Us, and if we’re not careful, badly.

Though this podcast is dedicated to analysing and amplifying the most useful advice and methodologies of the world’s top performers and most successful, we do tend to still give 2-3 minute introductions for each person. These intro serve as, well, intro’s to those who are unfamiliar with the guest in question, and they serve as reminders and warm-ups to those who are. But every once in a while, the guest really needs no introduction; people like the Rock, Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Swift, and such like, tend to be known by everyone. That said, we just can’t help ourselves.
So…
Today’s show is all about arguably the greatest—and definitely the most graceful—tennis player to step foot on the court, Roger Federer. Instead of doing our own intro, here’s the first, quite astonishing, first paragraph from his Wikipedia page. ‘…Swiss professional tennis player who is currently ranked world No. 2 in men’s singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals. Federer has won 19 Grand Slam singles titles, the most in history for a male tennis player and has held the world No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for a record total of 302 weeks, including a record 237 consecutive weeks. After turning professional in 1998, he was continuously ranked in the top ten from October 2002 to November 2016. He re-entered the top ten through his victory at the 2017 Australian Open.’ Combine this with the most beautiful and elegant style of play, good looks, charm, and stupendous professionalism, if there was ever a champion of champions, it is Roger Federer.
What follows are 9 short segments in which he talks about the importance of focusing on your strengths; goal-setting, and how he does it; how there is no such things as the self-made man; work-life balance; and the very topic of advice itself…

On today’s show we have advice on how to lead effectively, learn and develop skill, priorities (especially in the beginning of your pursuits), and originality. Short and sweet though it may be, valuable would be an understatement; the man is question walks the talk—and then some, it must be said, in the way he walks and more so the way he talks. He is known for his extensive and borderline insane use of foul language, his belligerent persona, strict and obsessive demeanour (or in other words, his intense passion for his craft), for his famous rivalries with the like of Jamie Oliver and Marco Pierre White, for his many TV shows, and for his smooth forehead. He is, of course, Mr Gordon Ramsay.
Gordon was born in Scotland, raised in Shakespeare’s hometown, Stratford-Upon-Avon, and built himself into a chef in France. Though he was born as chef in France, as you’ll soon here, he is a student of the world; his skills and food knowledge has came and continues to come from a never-ending philosophy of learning, and one that includes plunging himself in to unknown cultures, in which he speaks not a word of the language and has barely a clue of his location.
According to his website, his self-titled company currently operates over 30 restaurants around the globe; one of these is Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, his signature restaurant, which has held 3 Michelin stars since 2001. Michelin stars are to chefs what oscars are to actors; they are awarded to only the world’s finest restaurants. Gordon has received a total of 16 Michelin stars in his career, and currently holds 8. Even Shakespeare would be proud.
Without further ado, here’s the man himself, with 7 short but very sweet parcels of practical wisdom.

This show features 4 soundbites of insight from the one and only Adele. Adele is British singer and songwriter, and, at the young age of 29, already a national treasure and international superstar. The sky started falling in 2006, when her friend posted her demo on Myspace (for those who don’t know, imagine an early version of facebook), and she was swiftly snapped up by the XL Recordings record label. It is easy to say this was the moment a star was born, but with a voice like she had then, combined with such a amazing talent for songwriting, it appears she was already a star—just an unidentified one. Within a year of being signed up she was known around the world; and in 2008, she was touring around the world with her debut album, 19. Her concert tour, An Evening With Adele, was 78 shows and 18+ months long, and it etched her name in American cultural history, which was where the tour heavily focused on (a tactical move, yes, but a good one, it must be said).
Since then she has etched her own, very impressive, and record-breaking history. She has 15 Grammy awards to her name; her first album was certified 7 times platinum, and her second and third albums, certified diamond; she has sold an estimated 58 million albums worldwide; and in 2012 and 2016 she was named by Billboard as their Artist Of The Year and by Time as one of the world’s most influential people.
You’ll know her for songs like ‘Skyfall’, which she wrote for the James Bond movie of the same name, ‘Rolling In The Deep’, ‘Chasing Pavements’, and the beautiful, ‘Hometown Glory’.
Wherever you find this podcast, in the description you will find a link to the very video of Adele’s demo from all this years ago, in which she sings her own song, ‘Daydreamer’. Without much more, now let’s here Adele talk about songwriting, creativity, and the negatives of success.

Today’s show features advice from American Singer-Songwriter, Taylor Swift. One of the leading artists of our time, Taylor is well-known for narrative songs about her personal life. Her mega-successful records include ’Shake It Off’, ‘Bad Blood’, ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Mean’.
Not to take anything away from her vocals, it is her songwriting abilities that separate her from a pool of extremely talented female artists; her honest, blunt, real, true writing style means her fans are able to relate and connect with her at a level that is arguably only matched, today, by Adele.
She has an immensely impressive stash of rewards—including being named by Rolling Stones in their 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time list, in 2015; she also has ten Grammy’s, five Guinness World Records, one Emmy, and one Brit award. She was named in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, in both 2010 and 2015. In 2017, she was named Time Person Of The Year, as part of the ’Silence Breakers’—a list of people, primarily celebrities, who spoke out against sexual assault and harassment; a list, that included actor Terry Crews, journalist Megyn Kelly, and actress Ashley Judd.
Taylor is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having to her name more than 40 million albums, and over 130 million single downloads. At just 28, she has an estimated net worth of $280 million dollars; and no doubt, there is still plenty more to come. She’s Taylor Swift, and here are 8 soundbites of wisdom, straight from the women herself.

Today’s show features advice from Chris Pratt—an American Actor who is perhaps best known for his roles in Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy; and, for those who are able to identify a man by his voice, playing the role of Emmet in The Lego Movie. Other notable films you may know include Zero Dark Thirty, Delivery Man, and Passengers (with Jennifer Lawrence). The Marvel fans amongst you may know he will play the role of Star-Lord in the new film, Avengers: Infinity War, set to be released in May next year.
Chris is currently 38, and whilst his name has exploded on to the seen only is the last couple of years or so, he has been acting since a young age. His first film was Cursed Part 3, which came out in 2000; how he ended up in this film, though, is quite interesting. Chris was waiting tables at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company restaurant in Maui, Hawaii, when one day found himself chatting to actress and director, Rae Chong, who asked him if he could act; he replied something along the lines of ‘yeah, of course I can’, which, as you’ll here in the podcast, was not strictly true; and so, his career in acting began…
In 2015, Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world, on their Time 100 list. He is one of the most popular and exciting actors at the moment. He’s Chris Pratt, and what follows is 7 separate segments in which he discusses the important factors that have influenced the position he finds himself in today.

Today’s guest needs little introduction. That said, we’ll give him a short one anyway. The man is Mark Wahlberg; he is an American actor, producer, businessman, and former model, rapper, and songwriter. Some of his most notable films include Pain and Gain, Daddy’s Home, Love Survivor, The Fighter, The Other Guys, and Transformers; many people, however, will know him for his star role in the film, Ted.
Mark journey into acting is the typical rags-to-riches one. Today he is one of the most successful and highest earning actors in the field; he has a net worth of about $225million, and is currently one of the most exciting stars on the screen.
Such status usually is accompanied by a fair share of awards and honours—and Mark has won his fair share, including 2 Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and Actors Guild Awards for his roles in The Departed and The Fighter and Boogie Nights; he’s also won 6 MTV Awards and 3 People’s Choice Awards; and counting.
He’s Mark Wahlberg, and here are 7 nuggets of wisdom right from the man himself.

If you listened to the first, you’ll remember me saying there was simply too much Munger wisdom to fit into one podcast—well, this is that ‘too much’. If you haven’t listened to that podcast, however, fear not; the two are equally as valuable independent of each other—this isn’t the hunger games. Plus, for the sake of simplicity we are using the same introduction, which will tell you just enough about the man to make sense of the lessons he shares. Here then, is that very intro, followed by seven—nope, we’ve gone over—followed by eight pieces of counsel from the king of all Mungerism kings, Charlie Munger himself.

Today’s guest should need very little introduction—should, but in fact does. Charlie Munger is a man who vehemently dislikes the spotlight, and so has spent his life trying to avoid it. The reason he should need very little introduction is, ironically, also the reason he does need introduction. Charlie Munger is known as Warren Buffett’s (legendary investor and many times the world’s richest man) right-hand man, and is the man to whom Buffett credits most of his success; this is not a trivial claim, and it highlights one of the many reasons more people ought to know about Charlie—if only for the fact that Buffett has a net-worth of about, 84billion dollars…
Because Warren loves the spotlight—in contrast to his friend—Charlie has naturally let him take it during the several decades that they have been in the public eye; whilst this has served Charlie well, however, it also means fewer people know about him. Why this is unfortunate is not just because he made Warren Buffett magnificently rich and successful, neither; he is also a profound intellect and treasure-trove of worldly wisdom—which he shares in the form of stories, blunt axioms and esoteric jokes.
Charlie’s Wikipedia page has him as an American investor, businessman, author, philanthropist, and as vice-chairman to Berkshire Hathaway. This says very little about the extremely eventful and productive life he has lived, which includes a career in law, being the top man in several different corporations (including a hospital), and lots of philanthropy work. Charlie and Warren host the wildly popular Berkshire Hathaway annual conference; this is where the company shareholders and a selected number of journalists get together to listen to the two of them—usually for several hours—give updates and their thoughts on the past year, and answer questions about business, life, and sometimes, about Warren’s Coca Cola and peanut brittle diet.
The fact that many people attend this event for nothing else but to listen to the wise words of Charlie Munger, says an awful lot. For a deeper insight into Charlie’s life, I recommend two fantastic books: first is Getting Behind the Scenes with Charlie Munger, by Janet Lowe; second is Poor Charlie’s Almanack. The first book digs deep into his personal life; whilst the latter is almost exclusively about his work and teachings.

The golden number is 7: this is the number of lessons we try to fit into each podcast. But inevitably we struggle to keep within that number; sometimes there is just too much to cram into 7 that we have no choice but to include 10 or more. Besides, are not rules made to be broken? And seen as we created the rule in the first place, well…

On today’s show we have Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is an American composer, lyricist, singer, playwright and actor. He’s perhaps best known for creating and starring in the Broadway Musicals, Hamilton, and In the Heights; he also co-wrote the soundtracks for Disney’s Moana, and will star in their upcoming, film, Mary Poppins Returns.
Miranda’s resume is beyond impressive. He’s has on his shelf a Pulitzer Prize, two Grammy awards, 3 Tony awards, a MacArthur Fellowship and an Emmy award.
He has a quite a vibrant and zestful persona, which comes across is his many interviews; and also in his work. In those interviews he is thankfully never hesitant to lay on the table his philosophies and methods, and the lessons he’s learnt in his colourful but still embryonic career. We’ve went through many of his talks and interviews, extracted out the gems, and now present them to you. The first of which, is about the grind.
