Description

As a teacher and writer of self-healing work, I’ve learned that hearing other people’s stories helps us release, heal, and grow.

The Sugar Jar Podcast episodes will include conversations and stories from people all around the world sharing their healing journey. I’ll also have episodes where I share what I’m learning (or unlearning) around my self-healing journey.

There have been so many times when something good showed up in my life and I questioned it. Yet, when the bad things would show up, it was as if I expected it. Why are we wired this way and how can we shift it?   In this episode, I talk about the limitations we place on ourselves and ask us to release the way we hold ourselves back by not letting the good in.   Share with me, what were your highlights from this episode? We often share what we think is possible for us with grandeur and confidence, because what's the other option, no?   But do we truly believe the dreams and goals that we share with others is possible for us? Do we believe in us the was we say we do? In this episode, I explore our internal beliefs and ask us to questions how we can choose feelings that align with what we truly want.   Share with me, what were your highlights from this episode? Prior to this year, I'd never taken a solo trip unless it had to do with work. This year, I decided to change that, and I never imagine how much I would learn about myself by doing it. There's still so much to unpack.   But in this episode, I sharfe many of the highlights, hopefully inviting you to ask yourself - am I putting my life on hold waiting for folks to come with me? Because if so, this episode may change your mind.   Share with me, what were your highlights from this episode? Tag me @yasminecheyenne on Instagram. It can be hard to admit that you're doing too much and need to slow down, especially when you think you've "healed" that part of you already. But recently I learned the power of having time when you don't have to do anything, and how redfining what "being off" means can truly free you.   In this episode, I share my recent journey with learning to be off, and how it's taught me so many things about myself. I hope it inspires you to redefine what you need to as well.   Share with me, what were your highlights from this episode? Tag me @yasminecheyenne on Instagram. Grief shows up in waves and although it's a part of life, many of us struggling through it. It's not something thats often talked about, and I know for me, it felt like you get a specific window of time to share grief, and after that you need to either move on or you're on your own.   In this episode, I talk about my experience with grief, and how many of us are grieving living and present people and things that keep us in cycles that aren't serving us.   Share with me, what were your highlights from this episode? Burnout doesn't always happen when we're doing things we don't want to do. Burning out from something you've always wanted can be confusing and also lead to feeling ashamed, because why am I burnt out from what I said yes to?   In this episode, I talk about my experience with almost burning out (again) and how we can get curious about what gets us there.   Share with me, what were your highlights from this episode? Friendships are some of the most important relationships we have and yet, we often struggle with them. Whether there doesn’t feel like there’s enough time to maintain them, we’re struggling to build community, or we’re worried about building new ones- it can feel tough to keep relationships going. In this episode, I chat with my closest friends about friendship, hearing how they’re navigating friendships and asking the questions that so many of us struggle with around cultivating and maintaining community. So many of us are working to build community, but we find that we may not have the spaciousness, or the ability, to prioritize friendships the way we hoped. For others, no matter how much we keep putting ourselves out there, we’re still finding it difficult to keep connections going.   In this episode, which is part 1 of a 2 part series, we’re exploring friendships and community as adults, and how we can create space for the friendships that we all want in our lives.   Share with me, what did you learn about how you approach friendships? Holidays can trigger many emotions in us - some great and some not so great. Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that can erupt feelings of loneliness, struggles with worthiness, and disappointment for what we feel we’re missing out on. In this episode, we’re going to explore where our feelings around Valentine’s Day come from and reframe what doesn’t feel true to who we are. Share with me, what are you learning about your expectations around holidays? Share your thoughts on this episode with me and tag me @yasminecheyenne on Instagram. Fear of missing out is real, and dealing with the disappointment that comes with it isn’t always easy.  But if we’re saying yes out of fear and scarcity, then are we really in alignment? Or is the “yes” laced in fear of what we think may lose if we don’t? In this episode, we talk about how FOMO is draining our energy, and how boundaries help us maintain clarity on what really matters. Because we’re going to miss out sometimes, but I don’t believe we miss what’s really for us. Share with me, what are you learning about your yes? A part of the self-healing journey is learning to show gratitude for the journey you’ve walked on. This can be hard because sometimes we focus on all the ways that we may have made choices that didn’t impact us the way we hoped. In this episode, we walk through how honoring who we are makes space for us to accept some of the things that we went through that got us there. Many of us are familiar with the idea of reparenting ourselves and giving the adult version of us what we felt we were missing in hindsight. But putting this into practice can be a challenge and come with grief. In this episode, we walk through what reparenting yourself can look like and how it can invite you to approach the way you show up in your relationships differently. Share with me, how are you reparenting yourself? Share your thoughts on this episode with me and tag me @yasminecheyenne on Instagram. My book, The Sugar Jar, is available for pre-order! How much space do you have for the things that you say yes to? Do you always feel like your priorities or joy are a last minute consideration? Are you often fighting burnout? In this episode I walk you through what almost feels like a Sugar Jar workshop. You’re invited to get curious about the size of your jar (how much can you hold), how often you have to fill yourself up (how much are you giving), and the types of boundaries you set (what are your true belief systems). It’s often very easy for us to see what we believe other people are doing “wrong” in their own lives. It’s also often clear what we like or don’t like about the people who are in our lives. It’s not often easy for us to admit when we are part of the problem in our relationships or in commitments.   Why? Because truthfully, no matter how much healing you’ve done, no one enjoys admitting their faults. It’s tough (and brave) work! But there’s so much power in admitting where you need to shift, because you can’t control everyone else but you can control a lot of what you say, do, and commit to.   Share with me, how are you learning to be honest with yourself about “when it’s you”? It’s hard when people don’t like us, but one of the things that’s even tougher for us is deciding, consciously or unconsciously, that we can get them to like you. When we decide not to accept how people feel about us, based on their consistent actions, and take them on as a challenge, i.e. “I can get them to choose me” we sign ourselves up for an unhealthy relationship that lacks reciprocity and clarity. How can we learn to stop giving out energy to relationships that aren’t flourishing or blooming? How can we learn to focus on those who choose us instead of trying to convince others to be our friend, or partner, or insert here. In this episode, we’ll talk about how we can release this unhealthy pattern and move forward. Share with me, how are you learning to shift relationships or commitments where you know the connection isn’t mutual? One of the most unexpected things that occurs on our healing journey is the shift in our community. We lose relationships we weren’t expecting to, we set boundaries we didn’t know we needed, and many of us feel called to build community by creating new relationships.   But how do we deal with rejection? How do we cope with tough conversations? How do we learn to enjoy our new relationships without placing expectations on our friends that aren’t reasonable for both of us? In this episode, we talk about the emotions and experiences that can come up while building community on your healing journey.   Share with me, how are you building and nurturing your community while you’re healing? Share your thoughts on this episode with me and tag me @yasminecheyenne on Instagram.   My book, The Sugar Jar, is available for pre-order! There’s a chapter in my book called “Finding Freedom Through Acceptance'' that goes deep into this topic and provides tools to help you begin to heal in this area. So many of us are in relationships and commitments where we know things aren’t a fit but we stay out of hope. And we don’t want to let go of our hope, because if we do, we’ll be left with the pain and disappointment of our reality.   In this episode, I talk about the freedom, love, and acceptance that’s also possible when we’re honest about our reality. A HUGE part of calling our power back means being honest about what’s draining us. And holding on to relationships for what we believe they could be rather than being honest with ourselves about what they are is one of them.   Share with me, how are you learning to let go of commitments and relationships that don’t fit? When we make space for our healing, we usually say yes to it so that we can have more space for the things that bring us joy.  And we often think about the many people or things in our lives that might distract us from our joy.  But I want you to get curious about the ways that your jar isn’t full because you - yes you - might be the one in the way of the spaciousness you need?   When we’re honest with ourselves, we can create change.  When we behave like everything is okay, even when it’s not, we move through the world with that false reality and we make our decisions from that false narrative.  In this episode, we’ll compassionately explore what gets in the way of your full jar and we’ll share ways you can begin to fill yourself up.   Share with me, how are you going to begin filling your jar? Share your thoughts on this episode with me and tag me @yasminecheyenne on Instagram.   My book, The Sugar Jar, is available for pre-order! There’s a chapter in my book called “The Strong Ones'' that goes deep into this topic and provides tools to help you begin to heal in this area.  And while you wait for your book  to arrive, I’ve created a 4 part course to help you continue your healing journey now.  Click Here to get your copy!
So many of us are self-proclaimed “Strong Ones.” Some of us have chosen this title because we hope it will help us stay safe.  Some of us didn’t have a choice and were in circumstances growing up or at some point in our lives where it was clear that being unequivocally strong was the only way we'd survive.   There’s been a lot of talk about “the strong ones” and checking on “your strong friends” but the truth is that all of us - every single one of us - has an area in our lives where we might feel like we have to be strong and that there’s no one who can support us in that area. And that self-perceived strength often keeps us from asking for help, it keeps us from receiving help, and it keeps us from support.   In this episode, I walk through one of the tougher times in my life where my “strong one” facade was starting to crumble. I hope that this episode allows you to see that needing care is perfectly okay. It’s human. It’s beautiful. It’s freeing. And it’s how we call our power back.   I want to hear from you, do you relate to being a strong one? Disappointment shows up in so many ways, and for many of us, we try to avoid it at all costs. Not only is it extremely vulnerable, but it reminds us that even when we try our best, things don’t always work out the way we hoped. But, what happens when we learn how to love ourselves through disappointment? We remember that we can make it through tough times. We remember that we can have access to our joy again. And we carry the lesson with us when the next tough experience comes.   I want to hear from you, how did this episode resonate with you?   My book, The Sugar Jar, is available for pre-order!
